Sarah Miller

Backstory

Sarah was born in 2001, to Joel Miller and an unknown mother. Sarah and Joel's mother were married "for a while," but she left Joel shortly after Sarah was born. Before the outbreak, she lived a normal daily life in the Austin, Texas area, with her father Joel. She was on a youth soccer team called the "Defenders", and won an individual award in a game, as especially evidenced by a photo of her and Joel together. She liked to go on outings with her father, whether walking, to museums, or skateboarding, as evidenced by a skateboard leaning against the wall of her room. She was a fan of the rock band "The Bash", and had a poster of them. She also liked the "Dawn of the Wolf" movies, and had Joel take her to see the movie. According to Joel, she also loved Pokémon.

Legacy

The loss of Sarah had an adverse effect on Joel , as he couldn't get over her death even twenty years later, he doesn't even talk about his daughter to anyone if he can help it and still wears the watch she gave him, even though it was broken at the time of her death. After Joel's adventures with Ellie, the man notices several similarities between her and her deceased daughter, believing that they would have been good friends with her. He even affectionately calls Ellie "little one", which is the same pet name he used for Sarah, suggesting that Joel views his relationship with Ellie as similar to the one he had with Sarah. While living in Jackson, Joel reframes the torn photo of him and Sarah, keeping it next to one he had with Ellie on the windowsill of his bedroom in their new house.
