During his human days as Hakuji, he had the same hair, only black instead of pink, and light blue eyes with unusually colored pink eyelashes. He was also very muscular like a human, and on each of his forearms he had three black criminal tattoos. He also wore a dark blue-gray yukata.

Relationships (Koyuki 1#):

Koyuki: When Hakuji arrives at Dojo, he is introduced to Keizo's daughter, Koyuki, and is told that he will be in charge of looking after her. As he had experience caring for his father, Hakuji performed minor tasks such as changing towels and bedding, as well as helping her move around. Although Koyuki needed to rely on his help to survive, she constantly felt sorry for taking away her free time from him. Three years pass and the two grow closer as Koyuki's health improves. One day, Keizo asks Hakuji to become his successor at the dojo and says that Koyuki said she liked him, causing them both to blush. When the pair went out to watch the fireworks, Koyuki reveals her feelings of wanting to give up on life, but upon meeting Hakuji she was happy and wanted to live her life. After her confession, she proposes to Hakuji, who agrees to grow strong and be with her for the rest of his life. However, before they can get married, Koyuki and her father are unexpectedly poisoned and killed by the leader of the rival dojo. His death caused Hakuji to go berserk, to the point of killing 67 members of the rival dojo. After the massacre, Hakuji wandered aimlessly until Muzan discovered him and turned him into a Demon. After his transformation, he lost his memories and once again sought to become strong, not wanting to continue living in a world without family, Hakuji — now Akaza — resorted to pointless acts of carnage to ease his pain. Despite losing his memories, Akaza was noted to have subconsciously maintained his strong feelings for Koyuki, this is seen where Doma noted that Akaza adamantly refused to kill and eat women during his hundreds of years as a Demon, despite his obsessive desire for more strength and power.

Relationships (Koyuki 2#):

This aversion is probably due to the fact that he vaguely remembers Koyuki. As shown her physical appearance such as her pink hair, the same color as Koyuki's kimono, and even her Blood Demon Arts as a demon, her Compass Needle shaped into a snowflake similar to Koyuki's hairpins and techniques in the form of fireworks, probably based on their promise to watch fireworks together once she was cured is due to the fact that he partially remembers his past as a human and cherishes his memories of her.

Relationships (Keizo 1#):

Keizo: After his father's death, Hakuji becomes furious and starts fighting with a crowd of men. As a result of the commotion, Keizo is called in to resolve the fight and discovers that Hakuji has knocked all the men unconscious. He attempts to recruit Hakuji as a student at his dojo after being impressed by his fighting skills, and notices the criminal marks on his arms. Keizo understands Hakuji's situation and promises Hakuji that he will be reborn as one of his students, showing his genuine concern for his well-being. He even provokes Hakuji by challenging him to a fight, but when Hakuji tries to attack Keizo, he is quickly knocked out by the dojo instructor. After defeating and seeing Hakuji's potential, Keizo happily invited him to become a student at his dojo and instructed him to become the caretaker of his sick daughter. Over the next few years, Hakuji began training diligently under Keizo's instruction and soon became well liked by his teacher to the point of offering his daughter in marriage to Hakuji. Hakuji's warm acceptance of Keizo brings joy to his life and he begins to see Keizo as an inspiring father figure as well as a respected teacher. However, upon learning of Keizo and Koyuki's murder at the hands of the rival dojo, Hakuji once again falls into a homicidal rage and begins brutally murdering 67 dojo members. Their death affected him greatly, to the point that he doesn't try to fight back when Muzan converts him into a demon, even saying that "I don't care anymore, I don't care about anything." Displaying his realization that he had lost the most important people in his life, once again. As a Demon and much like Koyuki and his biological father, Akaza continued to cherish his memories with his teacher, despite his memories as a human having been corrupted like a demon.

Relationships (Keizo 2#):

This is seen where Akaza's hatred for the weak and belief in social Darwinism is due to the fact that he vaguely remembers the circumstances of his teacher's death. Where the enemy dojo resorted to an underhanded method such as poisoning his teacher's well to kill him, it was due to the fact that they were never able to defeat him in a straight fight due to the immense strength by Keizo. Resulting in Akaza developing an intense hatred for the weak, as he believed them all to be the most repulsive and underhanded creatures who do nothing but drag down the strong using such unscrupulous methods. During his battle against Tanjiro, Akaza is punched of the swordsman with so much impact that he remembers Keizo disciplining him. The sight of his master causes Akaza to slightly regain his humanity and cease his will to fight. Keizo's spiritual appearance appears to remind Akaza once again that "even in death he will not abandon him", but that he must pay for the sins he has committed. Even in Akaza's final moments, Keizo still guided him as a son and student, eventually welcoming him into the afterlife.

Relationships (Muzan):

Muzan Kibutsuji: Muzan hears the news of a "demon" massacring members of a nearby dojo, but doesn't remember sending one to that area, so he leaves to investigate. When traveling to the location, he discovers a human – Hakuji – soaked in blood and decides to use him as a demon for his needs. Throughout his life as a demon, Akaza never felt any sort of admiration, hatred, or respect for Muzan, instead seeing him simply as someone who gives orders and himself as someone to carry them out. Muzan started to like him, due to his loyalty, his desire to become stronger and gave him special permission not to eat women. After his first meeting with Tanjiro, Akaza meets with Muzan to report the events that occurred. He informs the Demon Lord that he defeated Hashira, but was unable to gather any information about the Blue Spider Lily, which enrages Muzan. He berates Akaza for being a failure and cruelly tortures him, destroying his skin until he begins to bleed. However, Akaza maintains her composure and continues to bow to Muzan. At the meeting of the upper echelons, Akaza immediately kneels before Muzan and refers to him as "Sir", showing her respect for him. When Doma is left wandering off after the meeting concludes, Akaza becomes enraged at his disobedience and destroys his head.
