Unique Weapon: Unlike other hunters, Gyomei used a Nichirin weapon specially adapted to his aggressive fighting style and his own physical disability, which consisted of a long chain with a spiked ball and an axe (ono) at the ends similar to a Kusarigama which he could manipulate with great skill despite his blindness. Due to his blindness, he depended solely on the sound of the chain to determine the movement of the axe or ball in order to attack. This weapon was forged from the same minerals used in the crafting of the Nichirin Swords. Its forging was characterized by being of extreme quality and durability, surpassing even the swords designed during the Sengoku Era when sword crafting was at its peak. Being one of the pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps, Gyomei was a fairly competent swordsman despite not using a sword like his peers. [14] According to the claims of Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibira, Gyomei was the strongest pillar of his generation, [15] which was reaffirmed during his battle against the Upper Moon One, Kokushibo, who upon closer examination, was able to notice that Gyomei was trained in all of his most predominant aspects until reaching his limits within the human and that in over three hundred years, he had never met an opponent of that caliber. [16] As such, he was able to put Kokushibo on the ropes, until he was forced to activate his Demon Slayer Mark to face him when he saw that the latter was beginning to turn the fight in his favor. Because he could not use Full Focus Breathing, he instead achieved a similar state where he had to gather strength by remembering all his past hardships, which he called Repetitive Movement (反はん復ぷく動どう作さ,, Hanpuku Dōsa?) which allowed him to possess a high level of concentration and fully open all five senses, better achieving all his physical capabilities and the use of nichirin tools. Demon Slayer Mark (鬼き殺さつ痣あざ, Kisatsu Aza?): During his confrontation with Kokushibo, he was able to awaken his Demon Slayer Mark which allowed him to enhance his physical capabilities to much higher levels. His mark resembled cracked patterns similar to fissures in the earth and were located on both of his forearms.[17]

Crimson Red Nichirin: During his battle against Kokushibo, the Pillar of Wind, Sanemi Shinazugawa, had a strong clash against Gyomei's spiked flail, causing both tools to temporarily turn a crimson red and granting them the ability to hinder the enhanced regeneration of demons.[18] Transparent World (透すき通とおる世せ界かい, Sukitōru Sekai?): Despite being blind, Gyomei gained the ability to access the Transparent World. This allowed him to predict his opponent's movements and sense them naturally.[19] Rock Breathing (岩いわの呼こ吸きゅう,, Iwa no kokyū?): This was a breathing style that Gyomei cultivated on his own during his youth. Due to his blindness, and in order to fully learn the breathing technique, he had to learn to incorporate his superhuman sense of hearing and mix it with his physical strength so that he would be able to use any type of weapon without much trouble. He was known as the most skilled Rock Breathing user of his generation. The stances he could perform were: First Stance: Serpentinite Hydra (壱いちノ型かた 蛇じゃ紋もん岩がん・双そう極きょく, Ichi no kata: Jamongan - Sōkyoku?) destroyed the enemy. Second Stance: Heavenly Surface Break (弐にノ型かた 天てん面めん砕くだき,, Ni no kata: Tenmen Kudaki?)[21]: He would strike his weapons hard against the ground, managing to generate a tremor capable of destabilizing the enemy. Third Stance: Fiery Reflection (参さんノ型かた 岩がん軀くの膚はだえ, San no kata: Ganku no Hadae?)[22]: Using both weapons, he could reflect the enemy's attacks. Fourth Stance: Rhyolite - Quick Conquest (肆しノ型かた 流りゅう紋もん岩がん・速そく征せい,, Shi no kata: Ryūmongan - Sokusei?)[23]: Attacking the enemy using both of his weapons while they were held from their ends increasing the range of the attack.

Fifth Stance: Firm Stone Wheel (伍ごノ型かた 瓦が輪りん刑ぎょう部ぶ,, Go no kata: Garin Gyōbu?)[24]: He launched a powerful attack produced by both weapons that was capable of destroying everything around the enemy, including their head.

appearance

Gyomei is a towering figure among the Demon Slayers. He is one of the tallest characters in the series, easily towering over his fellow Hashira. He is strongly built and extremely muscular. He has spiky black hair and a prominent scar that runs horizontally across his forehead. Having been blind since childhood, he has white eyes with no visible irises or pupils. His eyes frequently fill with tears when he becomes excited. Gyomei wears a typical black and white Demon Slayer uniform, with bandages over his shins resembling kyahan and a white zōri with an olive green happi over his shoulders. The happi's collar frame contains the kanji for the Japanese chant Nianfo/Shin Buddha (南無阿Yo陀AsiYa, Namu Amida Butsu?) from top to bottom, along with separate kanji across the back. He also sports a necklace of large beads around his neck and carries a set of ojuzu beads when not in combat.

being surprisingly sensitive and soft-spoken, despite his intimidating appearance. He is also shown to be quite pious, carrying his rosary at all times and offering prayers in touching situations. In particular, Gyomei easily cries over the most insignificant things, accentuating his rather gentle nature. This could be due to his love for all living creatures brought on by his religious upbringing, and hinted at when he felt so disgusted by beating up a demon that he would never forget that feeling for the rest of his life. Much like the rest of the Hashira, Gyomei holds a great deal of respect for Kagaya Ubuyashiki, no small part of which is due to the Oyakata saving his life. He is also one of the most respected individuals amongst the Demon Slayer Corps, not only due to being a member of the Hashira but because he serves as a symbol of hope due to his immense strength: Shinobu Kocho had once stated that when Gyomei fights, he calms everyone around him. [7] Furthermore, Gyomei serves as a leader for them, as seen when he would sit up front during Hashira meetings and was often asked for his word and opinion. [8] He was entrusted by Kagaya to give them orders, due to Gyomei being the eldest and because Kagaya had known him longer than anyone outside of his own family. Although he maintains a rather reserved disposition, Gyomei has a very objective and somewhat suspicious view of the people around him, due to his experiences before becoming a Demon Slayer. He is always aware of what others, particularly children or those younger than him, are capable of if given the chance. Due to his doubtful nature, it can take Gyomei a while to fully accept and trust others. When he does open up and let others in, he is unwavering in his commitment to them.

Gyomei greatly values ​​the principles that allowed him to achieve his status as a Hashira, rejecting Kokushibo's notion that he must become a Demon Slayer in order to preserve the physical skills and prowess he had dedicated himself to, and retorts his statement by saying that being a Demon Slayer means accepting the fact that seeing tomorrow is not guaranteed, and that no one can become a Hashira with Kokushibo's half-hearted resolve. Much like with Kyojuro Rengoku, the Stone Hashira also believes that living and dying as a human preserves one's dignity, and even took the Upper Rank's statement as an insult and demanded that the Demon not force his self-righteous belief upon him, further accentuating how tightly he holds onto his values. Furthermore, despite his usually reserved and polite disposition, at that moment, angered by Kokushibo's outright rejection of his humanity, Gyomei mocked him for lying about the fate of those who obtained the Demon Slayer Marks, prompting the demon to hide the fact that someone has likely lived past the age of 25 and laughing at his visible apprehension.
