In the Oscorp company a scientist named Dr. Markus uses Parker's blood to recreate the Oz formula that created Spider-Man, but the thief Prowler (Aaron Davis ) steals the formula, and in the process, one of the spiders created by Markus gets into Prowler's bag. Days later, the Prowler's nephew, student Miles Morales is bitten by the spider during a visit to Davis's apartment. Morales develops superhuman abilities similar to those that Peter Parker had, but does not tell his parents, Jefferson Davis and Rio Morales, due to his father's distrust of superheroes, entrusting him only to his best friend Ganke. Miles tells him that he just wants a normal life, and that he's not happy to have these abilities, and was initially too nauseated at the thought of risking his life to pursue heroic tasks like Peter Parker did. However, after witnessing the Green Goblin kill Spider-Man, Miles feels guilty and realizes that he could have helped. Later, Ganke suggests he take on the role of Spider-Man, learning that because of Gwen Stacy Parker did what he did, Miles was inspired to try his hand at fighting crime in costume.
