Personality:

Contrary to the impression due to Atsushi's enormous stature, outside of the game he acts like a small child. Since he dislikes all things problematic, he behaves somewhat careless, silly, and eccentric in life. Most often in his hands you can see chips or bags filled with various sweets. Claims that he hates basketball and only plays it because of his great talent. Although this is not entirely true, because at one of the games he was able to enter the Zone, which proves that he has a competitive spirit. He has said many times that he doesn't like players who are obsessed with the spirit of winning and playing with passion. The reason why he plays basketball, he cites the fact that he just does it without much overwork. During his time at Teiko, Aomine said that Midorima was always responsible in solving any problems, while Murasakibara was too careless and sloppy; this was the cause of arguments between the latter two. According to Kuroko, Murasakibara is far from a quiet player on the court. If he gets angry, he switches from defense to counterattack. Thus, when he played the offensive role for the Teiko team once in a game, he managed to score 100 points. However, as time went on, he became bored with basketball, and Atsushi became less aggressive, limiting himself to defense under the basket. Murasakibara also has a tendency to be around and befriend people who can make decisions for him. Thus, while studying at Teiko, he often listened to Akashi's "orders", and when joining the Yosen Basketball Club, he increasingly began to listen to Himuro's advice and words.

He's on the school health committee; can't talk in a scary voice; Atsushi has a habit of modifying names by adding the suffix "-chin". Basically his nicknames fall into two groups:1)The first kanji is used (Kuro-chin, Mido-chin, Aka-chin), 2)The second kanji is used (Mine-chin (Aomine), Zaki-chin (Haizaki), Muro-chin (Himuro)), 3)Out-of-classification name Kise-chin (Kise), as well as female names (Momoi can be either Sas-chin or Momo-chin, Masako Araki's coach Masako-chin); his surname (紫 "murasaki" and 原 "bara") literally stands for "purple base", indicating his hair color, as well as his body features and his role as a centerfielder. His name (敦 "Atsushi") means "simplicity", or "sincerity", which symbolically emphasizes his simple childlike nature; Murasakibara used vacant lockers in the locker room to store his snacks; the most delicious snack he got to try was chips flavored with the most authentic tempura sauce; Murasakibara comes from a large family. He is the youngest child and has three older brothers and one older sister; his best technique in basketball is the block; iis main opposing player is Teppei Kiyoshi; he cites his most vivid memory from Middle School as the time after practice when he would buy ice cream or candy;

History:

Murasakibara discovered a talent for basketball as a child when he was invited by other kids to play street basketball. Atsushi was also one of three first-year Teiko players who were immediately recruited to the main roster. This was an extraordinary event for a club of this magnitude. In his own words, in Teiko he initially had the most trouble with Midorima, and then with Kuroko. They argued often, with Murasakibara arguing to Kuroko that hard work is worthless if a player has no talent and no reason to even try. Kuroko agreed with Atsushi to some extent, but still held the opinion that hard work was also important. After all, it was Kuroko - one who truly loves basketball but has suffered many failures - who could not afford to agree with Murasakibara, who gets nothing but winning[6] from the sport. Despite their differences regarding their opinions on the game, off the court Kuroko and Murasakibara got along very well. Together with the other Wonder Generation players (Aomine, Kise, and Midorima), they would often meet up after class, for example to eat ice cream. While studying at Teiko, Murasakibara played against the Shoei Middle School team that Kiyoshi Teppei played for. It was in this match that Murasakibara almost completely broke his determination and love for the game, completely crushing the Shoei team. During the height of the Miracle Generation, Atsushi began to act arrogant and even refused to practice, feeling practice was unnecessary with his level of strength and talent. He was then challenged by Captain Akashi, stating that a player weaker than him had no right to cross him. It was in this 1-on-1 confrontation that Akashi's Imperial Eye first manifested, leading Murasakibara to defeat. Despite the victory, Akashi allowed Atsushi to skip practice on the condition that he would score in official Teiko games.

History(continued):

Upon graduating from Middle School, Murasakibara, along with the other players of the Wonder Generation, made a vow-agreement to determine in the High Schools who was stronger than them.
