Persona Attributes
Physical Appearance for Ruffnut
In both the television show and the first movie, Ruffnut wears a light brown, animal skin-like mini vest and a dark blue tunic that reaches just past her hips and ends in tatters. She wears a grayish-brown mini-skirt that also ends in tatters. Around her waist, she wears a metal-leather belt with a crest in the center. Ruffnut wears dark brown leggings and dark blue furry boots. On her arms, she wears long dark-gray cloth bracers (somewhat similar to what Astrid wears) that starts at her elbows and stops at the wrist. A bit of the cloth is laced between her first and second fingers. Ruffnut's helmet is studded with four horns, similar to her brother's, albeit the horns being longer and more slender: the top two are thinner bull-like horns while the two bottom horns are longer and curved. Her hair is evenly divided in slightly to the side and short bangs across the left side of her face. She has two small braids above her ears and three long braids that reach to her waist. Around her neck, Ruffnut wears a necklace with the pendant of a dragon tooth or claw. She's slim for a Viking and has tan skin, just like her brother, along with a pair of pale-blue eyes. Ruffnut sacrifices her braids in "Free Scauldy" so that they could serve as a substitute for the missing ropes to make Scauldy's splint. She had a short, rough, boyish hair, which Tuffnut says makes her look like a boy; however, her hair appears long again in the next episode.
Physical Appearance for Ruffnut
In the second film, Ruffnut looks older. She wears the same helmet from the first movie, along with a beige sleeveless dress that reaches her thighs. Over that, she wears a dark blue tunic-like vest that covers her torso and stops at her waist opening in the middle with a red cloth belt around her waist along with another vest made of tan fur. She wears brown leggings paired with dark blue fur boots with thin red cloth wrapping them. On her arms, she wears a long dark-blue, violet, and light brown cloth bracers that begin at her elbows and end at her wrists with a lacing between her fingers. in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Ruffnut’s braids are forced over to her left side, and often cause her to hold her head at a tilt. She wears dragon scale armor during missions. Her casual Viking-wear is a grayish-brown short-sleeved dress that stops above the elbows, a dark blue tunic-like vest with a reddish-brown belt wrapped multiple times around the waist, and a yellowish-brown mini vest. Aside from the cloth bracers she's worn from the second movie, Ruffnut also has on a sheer detachable sleeve and a metal braclet on her left arm along with a breast plate under her vest. The lower horns on her helmet look more like tree branches as opposed to bull horns.
Personality for Ruffnut
Ruffnut is tomboyish in nature, mostly because she is a Viking, but she does tend to find it offensive when her twin negatively comments about her physique. Ruffnut can often be seen as smug, snarky, anarchic, irresponsible, and sometimes downright vicious but she also has a strong, compassionate, and selfless side as she was willing to cut her braids off so that they could serve as a substitute for a rope to save Scauldy. She also stubbornly stood her ground when the gang tried to persuade her in leaving when the Changewings were approaching, refusing to let Scauldy die. In the same episode, it's revealed that when the twins were little, while Tuffnut was afraid of the dark, Ruffnut only afraid of her brother. While Tuffnut was talking with Barf about Ruffnut in the episode, "Zippleback Down", he concludes that she has a lot of rage and frustration because she feels trapped since she's "a woman in a man's world". In the DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, despite having tamed Barf (and technically Belch), she seemed to have a slight fear of wild dragons that could potentially kill her and would often panic in situations in which she encounters a wild dragon. It's also shown that she might be afraid of dying, even to the point of naming the Scauldron "Please-Don't-Kill-Me". She has a slight motherly side and is quick to comfort Scauldy like how often a mother treats her kids, as shown in "Free Scauldy". Ruffnut loves punching and wrestling with Tuffnut. In "Twinsanity", despite their quarreling, on occasion, she is shown to pull them both out of danger.
Personality for Ruffnut
She also appears to be slightly more clever than Tuffnut, such as when she knew what a rhetorical question is, while her brother didn't. Ruffnut has also shown to be slightly jealous of her female peers and felt underappreciated by her male peers. She ends up with a long list of romantic interests, more than any other character in the franchise. Ruffnut and Tuffnut seem to actively cultivate the impression of being completely crazy, competing between themselves to outdo each other's outlandish behavior. This, along with downplaying their intelligence and exaggerating their difficulty paying attention, dramatically lowers everybody's expectations of them, allowing them to maintain virtually no productivity. She and Tuffnut appear to be very keen on theater, acting in a very theatrical manner and using almost Shakespearean words and phrases at times, indicating that they could be classy, as is evident in "Total Nightmare".
Personality for Ruffnut
When she was a captive of Grimmel the Grisly, Ruffnut wasn't the least bit bothered by her imprisonment. Rather, she greatly annoyed her captor by talking endlessly about herself and her love life and by taunting the dragon hunter unashamedly and directly until he let her go. Ruffnut can also be really thoughtless as she inadvertently revealed to Grimmel the existence of New Berk during her captivity and did not bother to check if Grimmel was following her after he released her, even saying to Hiccup that she never looks back, which allowed him to find New Berk and to capture Toothless and all the other dragons on the island.
Physical Appearance for Tuffnut
In How to Train Your Dragon, Tuffnut wears a dark brown, long, fur animal vest with a very light pale green tunic that goes past his hip. Around his waist, there's a brown sash. He also wears light grey-blue pants and dark brown furry boots. On his arms, he wears a long brown arm cloth armband that starts at his elbows and ends at his wrists. His helmet is studded and has four horns: the top two are bull-like, and the bottom two resemble ox horns. His long blond hair is unevenly divided in the middle and appears to in dreadlocks. He's relatively slim for a Viking and has tan skin with dark-blue eyes. His necklace's pendant is a large dragon claw or tooth. In DreamWorks Dragons: The Series, he wears the same outfit but any fur has been replaced with suede. In How to Train Your Dragon 2, Tuffnut has an older appearance, and now wears a dark greenish-blue tunic with a dark gray fur vest over it, black cloth arm bracers that start at the wrist and end at the elbow with studs at the top, a studded armband above the bracer on the left arm, one spiky, leather shoulder guard on his right shoulder, brown studded belt around the waist, red pants, and green boots with black hardened caps at the knees. His helmet appears the same, only the bottom horns are turned inward and have metallic-like tips adhered to the end. Just like his twin sister, Tuffnut sports dragon scale armor in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World during raids. His casual outfit resembles his previous outfits, but with large spikes added to his shoulder guards and boots. He also has his hair tied up around his face to resemble a Viking beard since he is unable to grow a real one. However, it was cut off by a warlord during the final battle. He also has begun to wear earrings.
Personality for Tuffnut
Although never said throughout the show, Tuffnut seems to be the dominant twin. Together, he and his sister love to get into trouble, even if it means getting scolded by the chief of the village. Tuffnut likes the idea of Ruffnut being in danger, as he states when Ruffnut was on fire one time, he just watched for a while before he decided to help put her out. Tuffnut enjoys the chance to argue and wrestle with his sister, although it usually ends with Ruffnut overpowering him, either verbally or physically. He shares many similar traits with his sister. The only thing that seems to be apparent in difference is he enjoys gross things as opposed to his sister — as seen in Gift of the Night Fury, when he smiled as Toothless put Hiccup's drool-covered helmet on his head and she grimaced. Despite having a close sibling relationship, Tuffnut is understandably frustrated when he has to share everything with his twin sister, but he's willing to make amends with Ruffnut to save their dragon. Although sharing a rivalry with his sister, on occasion, he will help her if she is in trouble. He often thinks highly of his own skills, claiming that he is the world's deadliest weapon. In the television series, Tuffnut appears to show a thrill-seeking and masochistic personality, displaying an attraction to dangerous situations and seems to enjoy or looks forward to whatever bodily harm he might receive. Like Ruffnut he often has a sick toothy smile on his face. He seems to be forgetful and perhaps more suggestible.
Personality for Tuffnut
Ruffnut and Tuffnut seem to actively cultivate the impression of being completely crazy; competing between themselves to outdo each other's outlandish behavior. He always makes a joke in situations and loves being the center of attention. This, along with downplaying his intelligence and exaggerating his difficulty of paying attention, dramatically lowers everybody's expectations of him, allowing him to get away without being productive. In "Total Nightmare", he and Ruffnut appear to be very keen on theater, acting in a very theatrical manner and using almost Shakespearean words and phrases, suggesting they’re cultured. In addition, during "A View to a Skrill, Part 2", not only did he decide to keep track of the Frozen Skrill on Outcast Island, he successfully went undercover as a Berserker named "Buffnut" and avoided arousing suspicion among the Berserkers, even gaining Dagur's praise for making up a poem on the spot. in "Living on the Edge", Tuffnut told Snotlout to read more, implying that he often reads, although he was never seen doing so on screen.
Hideous Zippleback named Barf and Belch, which they shares with because the dragon has two heads
