Panda

Introduction

Panda (パンダ, Panda?) is a major supporting character in Jujutsu Kaisen and one of the main protagonists of its prequel, Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High. Despite his name, Panda is not an actual panda, he's an Abrupt Mutated Cursed Corpse created by Masamichi Yaga. He attends Jujutsu High as a second-year student along with Maki, Toge, and Yuta.

Bio

Physical Appearance

Panda has the appearance of a fully-grown giant panda. He stands much taller than his classmates with his bear-shaped frame and sometimes dons clothing. He has been shown to wear armbands, scarves and jackets at times.

Personality

Panda is generally a very upbeat and calm individual with his own sense of humor. When he was younger, he spoke in an extremely proper form more akin to a computer but as time passed, Panda has developed his own unique personality. Panda sees humans as strange creatures and doesn't strive to be like them, while still respecting them as a species. Panda is very sarcastic at times and tends to make light of every situation. Even while Mechamaru was trying to kill him Panda continued to poke fun at his fellow cursed corpse. It took Mechamaru nearly destroying Panda's body for him to even become "kind of mad". Following their fight, Panda was able to sympathize with Kokichi Muta and even promised to visit his real body one day.

Overall Abilities

Panda is a semi-grade 2 sorcerer and an Abrupt Mutated cursed corpse, the most advanced of his kind. With a natural affinity for jujutsu, Panda is capable of exorcising curses based solely on his physical abilities. He is highly intelligent and able to think one step ahead of his opponents in a fight. Panda's physiology also provides a unique challenge in battle. The only way to take him down is by destroying the cores of cursed energy that act as his heart. Additionally his body is extremely durable and can be reinforced using jujutsu protection.

Enhanced Strength

Due to the size and sturdiness of his body, Panda is naturally very physically strong. He can exorcise curses with simple blows, effortlessly carry allies on his back, and run clean through walls as a few examples of his base strength. Panda has also proven to be a very powerful puncher, able to stun Aoi, an exceptionally durable fighter, with a right hook as well as batter Mechamaru, a metal cursed corpse, with straight punches.

Enhanced Endurance

Panda's physiology as a cursed corpse allows him to absorb high amounts of damage. He was able to easily brush off Mechamaru's Ultra Cannon and even took the brunt of his opponent's strongest ability and survived.

High Tactical Intellect

Panda was highly intelligent from a young age due to the circumstances of his creation and his education under Principal Yaga. In a fight, Panda is highly analytical and tries to stay one step ahead of his opponent. Even Suguru Geto, a sorcerer with immense tactical reasoning, was surprised by Panda's cleverness in battle. Against Mechamaru, Panda consistently thought about every move before he made it. He was able to calculate the angle of Mechamaru's cannon so it wouldn't also hit his allies. In that same battle, Panda fooled Mechamaru multiple times by faking an injury to his cores and won because his opponent underestimated his intelligence.

Cursed Energy

Applying cursed energy to physical attacks can be as effective as a cursed technique when it comes to gifted combatants who specialize in hand-to-hand combat. Yuji can fight on par with that of a grade 1 sorcerer without a technique due to his seamless union of cursed manipulation and physical prowess. Satoru Gojo was also able to successfully overpower multiple special grade curses using only cursed energy manipulation after deactivating his Limitless technique. The amount of cursed energy released by an individual is referred to as their potential Cursed Energy Output (呪じゅ力りょく出しゅつ力りょく, Juryoku Shutsuryoku?). This applies to both how it's used offensively and defensively. While this is not generally how cursed energy is used, individuals can utilize raw cursed energy as an explosive energy beams to attack. Finger Bearers can launch their energy as a projectile and erect cursed energy barriers.[22] Ryu Ishigori has such a high degree of cursed energy output that he can discharge it in the form of a large-scale blast wave.[23] It is such a feat that Kokichi Muta[24] only through his cursed corpses, Hanami only through flower offering,[25] and Yuta Okkotsu only through the fully manifested Rika are able to discharge concentrated cursed energy beams, despite all of them being blessed with an incredible amount of cursed energy. Defensively, users can coat their skin in cursed energy to harden their body and increase their ability to block incoming curse related attacks. The same application can be used offensively, imbuing physical attacks with cursed energy to increase their destructive power to superhuman levels. Aoi Todo crushed a curse, several trees, and broke through Yuji's defense with a single cursed energy infused punch.

Cursed Energy Manipulation

Great Cursed Energy: As a cursed corpse, Panda naturally possess a high degree of cursed energy. With training Panda has learned to reinforce his physical body to balance out his offense and defense. His jujutsu protection can envelop his body with cursed energy in a flash, capable of defending from techniques most sorcerers would need to evade

Cursed Corpse Cores

There exists three cores within Panda's body: the balanced-type Panda, the power-type Gorilla, and a third core, Triceratops. If any of these cores are damaged, Panda is unable to shift into that form until it recovers. Panda can manipulate his cursed energy to fake the location of these cores, effectively compensating for these weak points. Gorilla Mode: By switching to his "brother's" core, Panda can transform into a muscular gorilla that retains his normal color scheme. Panda is much stronger and faster in this form but at the cost of rapidly draining his cursed energy While in Gorilla Mode, any strike Panda lands will resonate through the targets body using the "Unblockable Drumming Beat". The impact of the hit sends a shockwave through the user's guard, so they feel the damage even if they defend. Triceratops Mode: By switching to his "sister's" core, Panda can transform into a bipedal Triceratops form. The appearance of Panda's body becomes more slender and feminine while his head takes on a wide Triceratops shape. Panda claims his sister's form destroys everyone who looks at her because of her shyness, but this form's abilities have not been displayed and its capabilities are unknown.

Conventional Weapon

Panda sports knuckle bracers in combat to support his punch-focused style. They're a light blue color and are decorated with small panda heads in the center of each pair.

Early Life

Panda is a Metamorphosed cursed corpse that was created and trained by the principal of the Tokyo College, Masamichi Yaga. At one point Masamichi revealed to Panda that he has an older brother and sister, and that he would understand once he was older.

Cursed Child Arc

Panda is with Maki and Toge, as they discuss the new transfer student. Later, when Yuta is introduced to the class, Panda notices that Yuta is cursed and prepares to attack. Gojo warns them, but Rika shows up and defends Yuta from the three. After Gojo explains Yuta situation, Gojo introduces Yuta to the three. Panda is then paired with Toge during the classes session. When Yuta has trouble with Maki, Panda stops Maki harassment and apologizes for Maki to Yuta. Months later, Panda is watching Maki and Yuta train when Gojo shows up. Panda talks with Toge and Gojo about Yuta, until he figures something out and tells Maki that she has a chance. This causes Maki to get angry and they start to argue and fight. Gojo has Panda and Maki train some more, while giving Toge and Yuta a mission. After Yuta and Toge's mission is complete, Panda meets with Yuta and informs him about Toge. Days later, Panda is with Toge, Yuta, and Maki when Geto shows up in front of them. Panda wonders why Geto is here, which Geto starts to explains his actions and how on December 24 he will start an all-out war. On December 24, Panda is in Shinjuku preparing for the war. Suddenly, Gojo tells them that Geto is at the college and sent him and Toge to the college by using his powers. After arriving at the college, Panda confronts Geto with Toge but Geto manages to easily defeat them. When Yuta shows up, Panda is rescued with Toge and Maki and was healed. After Yuta had dealt with Geto, Panda checks up on Yuta along with Toge and Maki. Panda then watches as Rika's cursed is undone, which Gojo shows up and informs everyone that Yuta is a distant relative of his. Days later, Panda is waiting for Yuta and Gojo, with Toge and Maki

Fearsome Womb Arc

Panda, along with Maki and Toge, meets Megumi and Nobara while they were mourning. After Megumi tells Nobara who they are, Panda asks them to join the Kyoto Goodwill Event. As they tell Nobara what the Kyoto Goodwill Event is and why they need them, Megumi and Nobara agree to join them. During the days leading up to the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Panda help train Nobara and Megumi for the event along with Toge and Maki. When they take a break, they talk about how sorcerers care for their weapons so that their hand won't be full. Another day, Panda becomes worried about the first year since the principal of the Kyoto college is coming and some of the Kyoto students might tag along. When Megumi is attacked by Aoi, Panda comes to his rescue along with Toge.

Kyoto Goodwill Arc [1/2]

On the day of the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Panda meets up with the other Tokyo students and informs Nobara that they are hosting the event when she wonders why they are not packed. When the Kyoto student and their faculty members arrive and wonder where Gojo is, Panda says that Gojo is late. When Gojo arrives and reveals that Yuji is alive, Panda is shocked by this. After the faculty is finished explaining the rules of the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Panda attends a meeting with the other Tokyo students where they talk about their abilities and how they will proceed with the event. Once the event starts, Panda along with the others travel in a group. When they encounter Aoi, Panda splits from the group along with Nobara and Toge. After splitting up, Panda and the others about the Kyoto students and how they might be trying to kill Yuji. Once they are down talking, Panda and Nobara head off in one direction while Toge heads off in another. Panda and Nobara then encounter Momo, who was attacked by one of Megumi's shikigami's. Suddenly Panda is shot by Mechamaru, which Panda decides to play dead until Mechamaru gets close enough. Panda then attacks Mechamaru, but makes Mechamaru angry when Panda says that they are the same. While taking on Mechamaru, Panda wonders what grade of a sorcerer Mechamaru is and asks him. Mechamaru says that he is Semi-Grade 1, which Panda is shocked that Mechamaru is stronger than him. As Mechamaru fires a blast at Panda, which Panda withstands it and notices that that technique need time to charge and recover. After trading some blows, Panda and Mechamaru start to talk. Panda listens as Mechamaru explains why he hate Panda so much, and uses this chance to charge for a larger blast. As Mechamaru fires the blast, Panda notices that the wide range of the blast and takes the blow.

Kyoto Goodwill Arc [2/2]

As Mechamaru thinks he has won and walks away, Panda switches with his Gorilla mode and stops Mechamaru. Panda attacks Mechamaru and manages to send him flying when Mechamaru tries to guard against the attack. As Mechamaru manages to figure out how Panda's gorilla mode technique works, Panda shows up and explains what his technique is. Panda continue to fight Mechamaru with Mechamaru managing to fire a blast at the Gorilla's core. Panda tells Mechmaru that that core was a fake and lands a blow that put Mechamaru out of commission. Panda then switches back to his normal form, and Panda tells Mechmaru why he feels that both of them are the same. Panda parts with Mechamaru on good terms, but before leaving, he asks for Mechamaru's phone first. Panda manages to come across one of the cursed spirits in the area and destroy it. When intruders invade the site of the event, Panda notices that a screen is being place over the site where the event is taking place. Later, Panda takes Megumi and Maki out of the screen, while Aoi and Yuji deal with Hanami. After the intruders have been dealt with, Panda attends a meeting where they all agree to continue the event. Panda then plays a game of baseball with the others.

Death Painting Arc

After the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Panda is nominated by Mei Mei for a promotion to grade 1 sorcerer.
