James Marriott

James William Marriott[1] (born: July 7, 1997 (1997-07-07) [age 26]) is an English[2] YouTuber and musician known for his commentary-based videos. He gives his input on trending events in a comedic, witty fashion. James was a member of the now ended YouTube group the Eboys, along with fellow YouTubers ImAllexx, WillNE, and Memeulous. He also used to host a weekly podcast called The Camp Cast alongside Alex. When James was younger, he created a channel on November 17, 2008, under the username cheesybob20[3]. He would create animations using MS Paint, clay and other things. The channel is defunct as of current. His earliest videos featured acoustic guitar covers and Q&As, before transitioning into the commentary genre where his channel remains today. He would also vlog himself doing challenges like the urban dictionary challenge[4] and reading his sister's diary[5]. For a short while he would break down lyrics from music videos, like Boomerang by JoJo Siwa[6] and Pokemon Go by Misha[7]. He was also a "ranter" and would complain about YouTubers such as Sorscha[8], James Corden[9], Lele Pons[10] and Liza Koshy[11]. In between these videos he had a series known as Baking With James where he showed himself baking honeycomb cheesecake[12] and pancakes[13], though it only lasted for two episodes. Even though he would usually criticise YouTubers, he made videos like "Everything wrong with (YouTubers)", which, despite their names, were lighthearted videos that praised his friends. So far this series has episodes on Elvis The Alien[14] and Pyrocynical[15], though other episodes have still been critical of YouTubers such as Morgz[16]. These kind of commentary/rant videos became his most popular and he made them the signature style of his videos.

He is known for being a musical critic, with heavy criticsm being aimed at the music of Gabbie Hanna[17] and AzzyLand[18]. He also made reaction videos to comedians such as Gatis Kandis[19] or unusual individuals such as Randy Constan[20]. He would even commentate on himself, like YouTube recommending his own past videos (which he now considers cringe) to his viewers[21]. As of 2020, he has started to read and react to Youtuber books[22][23][24] and movies[25], and in 2021, he has started to review music from Tiktokers such as Dixie D'Amelio[26] and Bella Poarch. In 2020, he started to make music, with his first song being Slow Down[27], with John Swan being credited as a producer and Cynic Snacks being credited as the editor. James lists Two Door Cinema Club, Sam Fender and The Strokes as large influences for his music.[28] He has gone on to make more original music. His first EP, No Left Brain was relatively popular, containing his smash hit- Him. After this he began to tease at a new project. This soon became known as Bitter Tongues.

Bitter Tongues was extremely popular not only with Marriott fans but also new fans from other communities. Particularly the songs Car Lights, which became a cult hit for the Queer community and the final single, Grapes, which was widely praised by many outside of his community as a great example of modern indie rock. After this success, he formed The Marriott band and began playing live. Playing live began to catapult the band even further into the mainstream, with them even being noticed and othered to play shows with artists such as Lewis Capaldi and Jake Bugg. After an extensive UK tour, a show at the Royal Albert Hall which also included names such as Roger Daltrey and Richard Ashcroft and a long festival season ending with main stage at Reading Festival, he began releasing hints for his debut album, Are We There Yet? James studied modern languages at the university ACL. James occasionally plays FIFA with Alex, and claims to be significantly better at the game, which is definitely true. Before James and ImAllexx became friends, James was a large fan of Alex's channel and has admitted to having considered making a fan account based on him. James's favourite Pokèmon is Lapras. His eyes are hazel with gold flecks. He has a cat called Otto, despite being allergic to cats[30]. He also used to have a dog, but he sadly passed away. Despite jokingly being labelled a Tory by his friends, due to his posh background, he supported the Liberal Democrats until the 2017 General Election. He mainly edits his videos along with Cynic Snacks. He is scared of locusts, and backed beans his receding hairline and the name cheesyknob69.
