Description

Kento Nanami (七海建人, Nanami Kento?) is one of the characters in the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. He was a first-grade sorcerer, a former student of the Tokyo Metropolitan College of Magic, and a colleague of Yu Haibara.

Description

Nanami was a well-proportioned and quite tall man, reaching 184 centimeters. In the manga, he had two different hair colors, light brown[3] and blonde[4], styled with a side part; in the anime, his hair remains blonde. He used to have thin eyebrows and small eyes[5]. After the events of the Shibuya Incident Arc, he lost his left eye and suffered multiple burns that extended from the left side of his head to his abdomen[6]. He used to be an office worker[5], so even after resigning, he wore business suits. His usual outfit consisted of a blue shirt, a light-colored tie with black dots[4], a blazer and tan trousers[3], and dress shoes. As a student at the Tokyo Metropolitan College of Magic, he wore the college's characteristic black jacket, with a high collar fully buttoned, black trousers and shoes; he also had long hair and carried his sword sheathed inside a black suitcase[7]. After graduating from college, he began to wear vertically striped jackets over a white button-down shirt and a dark-colored tie with white dots all over, vertically striped trousers and black shoes[8]. During combat, he wore dark glasses without arms[5]; in the anime they are depicted as gray with green lenses[9]. Unlike his student days, he carried his sword strapped to his back and usually concealed it under his coat[10].

Personality

He was a very intelligent, reserved man with a strong sense of responsibility towards his work[5]. Originally, he was an office worker, but he left his old job because it didn't make a significant impact on others; however, like a shaman, he felt better being able to reap small tokens of gratitude from innocent people. For example, helping an employee at the bakery he used to go to was enough to convince him to return to his life as a shaman and continue his path without remorse[8]. Beyond his tough exterior, he was a man of good moral values. He knew how to separate sentimentality from work[3], and confessed that he only pursued his path as a shaman because it required more skill than working in an office[5]. Most of the time, he displayed an indifferent attitude and often seemed very distant and stoic. As one of Itadori's mentors, the stark contrast he presented to Satoru Gojo is initially highlighted. Unlike Gojo, he stated that he strictly followed the decisions of the higher-ups and, although he knew Gojo since they both studied at the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College, he declared that he trusted and had faith in him but did not respect him, despite the mutual trust between them[5]. He was very direct about what he thought and tended to get irritated easily, especially when it came to Itadori or his former partner, Yu Haibara[7]. At one point in the story, he even declared that he would not accept the young man as a shaman because Sukuna resided within him and, as such, he considered him a bomb that could explode at any moment[5]. His way of thinking changed when he was saved by the young man[11].

Personality

Due to his past experiences, he treated Itadori like a child because he didn't want him to let go of his youth simply by becoming a shaman[10][11]. He was aware that being a shaman was dangerous and that it was a job for people with a certain degree of madness, so he found it difficult to respect those who dedicated themselves to that work[5]. Although he couldn't find a reason for having become a shaman again, he was extremely dedicated to his work and took care to perform it as efficiently as possible. Even after no longer being an office worker, he maintained part of the structure of his old job, following a strict schedule in which he carried out his missions as a shaman, declaring that he didn't work after 6 PM, but was willing to work "overtime". Deep down, he was a man exhausted by his routine, feeling completely worn out, and he dreamed of quitting his job and going to live in a quiet place, having a peaceful life so he could have the peace he so longed for but was unable to achieve. Despite being someone who didn't question the level of his abilities, he always felt completely useless and revealed that, after finding Kiyotaka Ijichi injured, he felt powerless at how weak he was[12]. He constantly questioned, doubted, and challenged his ability to save others. Even in his final moments, he questioned his flight after the events of his past, having accomplished nothing admirable, and his return to continue as a shaman without clear motives[6]. In the end, he was just a man worn down by the daily practices of life that stole his youth, took away the person he loved most, and transformed him into an adult[13].

Curiosities

He/She is 27 years old. His maternal grandfather is Danish. There are no other shamans in his lineage. The reason many shamans hide their gaze with dark glasses is that most curses attack the moment they feel observed (Gojo covers his eyes for a different reason). He loves bread and is a connoisseur of it to a certain extent. He/She is 1.84 centimeters tall. His/Her birthday is July 3rd. He is a First Degree shaman. His method of enrollment at the Tokyo College was through recruitment. His cursed technique is the Proportion Technique. His hobby and special skill is drinking alcohol and cooking for himself.
