Nana Shimura

Appearence

Nana is described as a beautiful woman with a tough demeanor. She is a tall woman with a curvaceous and muscular figure, and at the same time, she is well-built, as befitting a One For All user. She has fair skin and a small mole below her bottom lip, centered to the right, and sharp, intelligent eyes with long eyelashes. Her hair is dark and straight, kept shoulder-length, with the exception of a clump of short bangs hanging above her forehead, and is usually styled in a half-up-half-down bun. Her hero costume consists of a dark, sleeveless bodysuit with a high collar, yellow elbow-length gloves, and white knee-high boots. Around her waist is a belt with an angular golden buckle, a small cape attached around the back which hangs down to her knees, and over her shoulders is a longer cape, buttoned to the shoulders of her bodysuit.

Personality

Nana is a kind woman with a strong sense of justice. She believes that a true hero should smile, no matter how grim the situation, since people who need to be saved require not only protection for their lives but also solace for their hearts; she shows great empathy and emotional resilience. Her overall value for bravery and happiness is where All Might adopts his iconic smile to put other people at ease. Initially, Nana has a more cold and grounded attitude as a hero, chiding a young Toshinori Yagi for intending to fight a group of villains with just a lead pipe and refusing to make him her pupil at first due to him lacking a Quirk. However, she sees his desire to become a pillar of hope for people living in fear and brings him up with her trusted friend, Gran Torino. She subsequently takes Toshinori as her student and successor, a testament to her openness and optimistic belief in the potential of others, even when they are at a disadvantage like Toshinori. Much like her pupil, Nana's heroism extends to self-sacrifice. In her battle with All For One, she shows no fear in the face of danger, instead smiling and passing on her will to her successor. Furthermore, Nana is a loving mother to her son. She is compassionate, nurturing, and supportive of him. In a flashback of Tenko's childhood, his sister Hana shows him a picture of Nana and Kotaro as a child, with both of them being together and happy. However, Nana had to leave him in foster care at a young age due to her incapability as a mother and the dangers of her hero life. Despite this, Nana leaves Kotaro a letter explaining her situation while assuring him that she will always love him, even in death.

Backstory

Nana Shimura lives in a troubled era dominated by villainy. Born with the Quirk of Float, she becomes a Pro Hero and forms a close bond with Gran Torino. During a battle with En, she inherits his Quirk, One For All. Having a strange dream, Nana shares it with Gran Torino, who becomes her mentor. While dealing with villains, she encounters Toshinori Yagi, who admires her. Initially rejecting him as a student due to his lack of Quirk, Nana later changes her mind, impressed by Toshinori's ideals. Nana marries and has a son, Kotaro, but tragedy strikes when her husband is killed. To protect Kotaro from All For One, Nana separates from him, leaving a letter explaining her actions. Unfortunately, Kotaro's resentment towards heroes grows, leading to a tragic chain of events.

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Nana was regarded as a great hero by powerful individuals, such as All Might and Gran Torino. She is also very proficient with her original Quirk, Float, as she was able to fly alongside Gran Torino, who was considered to be the fastest Hero of his time with his Quirk, Jet. After receiving One For All, in combination with her Float, her abilities were increased tremendously, enabling her to dispatch a large group of villains in a short span of time, and saving the young Toshinori.[6] Despite possessing One For All, she was not strong enough to defeat All For One. Trained Muscles: Like All Might and Izuku, Nana possessed toned muscles given that usage of One For All requires the user to have a strong body capable of handling the Quirk's raw power, and could cause the user's body to be blown apart if they don't possess the necessary strength. She was strong enough to take down a big villain twice her size alongside multiple other villains with ease. Float Ability: Nana's Quirk granted her the ability to suspend herself in mid-air. It is currently unknown if she was able to maneuver herself while levitating. Transferred to her from En, Nana's second Quirk allowed her to stockpile an enormous amount of raw power, allowing her to significantly enhance all of her physical abilities to a superhuman level. This resulted in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability.

Relationship with her son Kotaro Shimura

Nana loves her son Kotaro very much and cares for him. However, after her husband is murdered, Nana does not want her son to have the same fate. So, much to her dismay, she sends her son away from the world of heroes, leaving him in the care of a foster family to prevent All For One from tracking him. Nana even asks Gran Torino and Toshinori to, under any circumstances, never come into contact with him, preventing her close friends and allies from searching for him before her own death. Unfortunately, Nana's actions ultimately cause her son to resent and detest her legacy for the rest of his life. Kotaro considers his own mother as a demon, believing she put up her own son for adoption due to putting her duties as a hero before her family. While he later goes on to have a family of his own, he is abusive towards his son, Tenko, and frequently abuses him whenever he talks about heroes or her in general. The abuse ultimately drives Tenko to murder his father and his whole family, thereby making Nana indirectly responsible for Tenko becoming Tomura Shigaraki. Later, in the world of One For All, Nana admits to Izuku that abandoning Kotaro was the worst decision she ever made.

She trains and guided Toshinori before passing on the quirk to him. Their bond is characterized by respect, admiration, and a sense of duty. On an emotional level, Nana Shimura and Toshinori Yagi's relationship is marked by a deep sense of responsibility and connection. Relationship with Toshinori Yagi's student, Izuku Midoriya

Nana learnt of Izuku (15 years old) being Toshinori's successor. When Tomura and All For One attempted to steal One For All from Izuku, Nana and Yoichi Shigaraki thwarted the villains. Later, when Izuku is recovering from coma, he has a meeting with Nana and the past One For All users. Nana suggests Izuku to kill her grandson Tomura. She is upset over forcing her failures onto Izuku but warns him that some villains just can't be saved at all. Izuku replies that One For All is meant to save people, not just kill All For One. He tells Nana that he wishes to save Tomura, but if there is no choice, he will kill him for good. Nana starts crying at Izuku's answer and agrees to support him. She is later shown to share concern with the other One For All wielders over Izuku's extreme workaholism, worried that he took her words too seriously.
