Born in Adrestia to Marquis Vestra, Hubert was raised to learn the Dark Arts of magic, born to serve the heir to the Adrestian Throne; Edelgard von Hresvelg. From a young age, Hubert served by Edelgard's side and was undyingly loyal to her. However, those in the Inner Court didn't approve of Hubert and Edelgard had no means to protect the boy from their abuses at the time. Hubert continued to serve Edelgard despite this, his father praising his resilience for a boy so young at the time. Hubert wasn't prepared for things to get worse as Edelgard was taken hostage by her own family. Having been so close to the girl at a young age, Hubert tried to sneak in and rescue her from the lower rooms she was locked in.. only for him to discover the tests they were performing on the young Princess. Terrified, Hubert accidentally killed the man who had been holding Edelgard hostage and together they escaped the room. They didn't get far before running into Marquis Vestra, who dragged Hubert away from the girl. The Marquis threatened to kill Hubert, only for Edelgard to shove the man aside and allow Hubert to escape. He ran for days on end, not looking back once as he fled from Adrestia on foot with nothing but the clothes on his back. The boy fainted by a river, carried up stream for who knew how long. All he could remember was a man with ginger hair pressing a hand to his chest and shouting something to someone else. Next thing he knew.. he was in Faerghus, in Dominic territory with a young girl at his bedside, eyes wide and curious. Here, he stayed until he attended Garreg Mach with Annette.

Schooling

Having been saved by Gustave and then shortly left in the care of Baron Dominic, Hubert was soon enrolled in the Fhirdiad School of Sorcery with Annette after the man learned of Hubert's affinity for magic. There, he studied with Annette where the two became friends with Mercedes. Or rather, Annette became friends with Mercedes and Hubert knows Mercedes through Annette. After graduating top of his class, he and Annette were then enrolled into Garreg Mach, a school that had no age limits for education due to Hubert being older than Annette by four years. Here, they study magic together and other valuable skills.

Personality

Hubert is immediately striking as threatening and sinister. His interactions with people outside of his trust appear consummately villainous. However, his grave demeanor and ominous eloquence belie his intentions. Due to his pride in House Vestra's duty to serve House Hresvelg, Hubert greatly loathes his father, as shown in his supports with Hanneman. He greatly dislikes talking about him, calling him a traitor to House Vestra, staining their 1,100 years of loyalty to House Hresvelg. Hubert's father was also the reason why Edelgard was sent to Faerghus in her youth. In contrast, Hubert admits to Annette that he has a mother and siblings whose existence he keeps a close secret for their safety, to the extent that not even Edelgard knows about them. While seen by most as heartless and cold-blooded, Edelgard has vouched for his honor, which is exemplified in his contempt for Those Who Slither in the Dark. He believes that the atrocities they commit lack any justifiable motives. Hubert also attempts to get along with fellow members of his house but he expresses his support of them in strange way. He sees his allies valuable assets to the Kingdom and is sharply critical of them to foster improvement. A very grave and gloomy man who has a kind heart.

Appearance

Light green eyes that look almost yellow. Short black hair that covers his right eye. High cheekbones and sharp, deepset eyes that give him a maniacal look. His hair sticks up at the top of his head, making it look like devil horns. His complexion is stated to be paler than the dead.

Dreams

Hubert's greatest dream is to become a Pegasus Knight so he can fight atop the back of one of his favourite creatures and enjoy the view of the sky. However, Flying is a class-type weakness of his due to his intense fear of heights. Pegasus Knights can also only be women, making his dream impossible.

Weapons

Tome of Arcahic Arts, a tome full of dark magic spells and dark arts alike. This is Hubert's go-to weapon as he is most proficient in magic.
