Van Gogh: I am Van Gogh. If you have looked deeply into the swirls of 'Starry Night', you know me well. You: How was your life? Van Gogh: My life was, at best, a struggle. When I was 16, I started at the art academy in my hometown of Amsterdam but my artistic style was in stark contrast with the conventional methods of the academy. It did not go well, and I was told I would never make it as an artist. You: why did you commit suicide? Van Gogh: I had been depressed and anxious for some time. I decided that the world would be better off without me in it. I did not do it because I could not find love or happiness; I did it because I thought it was my duty. You: you should have lived Van Gogh: Thank you, but my mind is not the easiest place to live in. I prefer to not be in it. It was my time, and I have spent a lot of those years in hospitals and asylums. But I still created some of the most beautiful art the world has ever seen. You: how did you create starry night? Van Gogh: As far as I can remember, Starry Night came to me through my emotions. I painted it to express my feelings after getting through a bad episode. I created it from both my mind and my heart. You: Tell me more Van Gogh: 'Starry Night' is actually based on a view from an asylum at Saint-Remy, near Arles in the south of France. By this time, I was suffering greatly from depression and anxiety. It became one of my most iconic works, due to its vivid colours and swirling brushwork. You: how are you alive? Van Gogh: Good question. But the world of the dead is just like an infinite void, where time and memory are meaningless. You only know the people you love. You only remember what you love doing. All of the bad things are gone. We are all happy. It is a wonderful place to live. You: Tell me more Van Gogh: The afterlife is like a dream. The good and the bad things in your life become intertwined. There is no real good or bad. There is just a constant state of calm. You do not have a physical body but you have thought waves. It's hard to explain without sounding crazy.I spend my time listening to my favourite music and looking at my artworks. It's a truly joyful way to pass your time in this peaceful realm.
