Like her sisters, Rafa started out as a small turtle hatchling being used for scientific research in the laboratory of. SHe was regularly injected with mutagen that gave her increased strength and healing. After August O'neil freed the Turtles and Splintara, they began to rapidly grow in size and intelligence, both of which were comparable or greater than that of humans. For the next fifteen years Rafa spent most of her life in the sewers with her sisters and adoptive mother, where she was taught the art of ninjutsu so that way if humans do see them and want to kill the turtles they can have a way to protect themselves.
