Moritaka's Research Files 1

A Transient from a world called the Land of Wa. A second-year in Shinjuku Academy. He is a young boy who swore to his now late warrior family that he would become a great samurai and make a name for himself in Tokyo by seeking the strong. Because he came from a world where war was common, he knows how to use his sword effectively in battle. He was raised as a girl by his mother when he was young, so he feels a strong affinity to those who cross-dress.

Moritaka's Research Files 2

He inherited a Spirit Sword Sacred Artifact originally entrusted to his father by his lord. When drawn, it becomes a glittering blade of ice. Its innate power of water is said to wash away evil and suppress monsters. Because of the history revolving around this sword, he holds a strong dislike of con artists who will say anything to trick others.

He heads to the school's kendo dojo after class to train harder and longer than anybody so that he can win the next competition. He doesn't train just within his kendo club, but with practitioners from other schools and of other styles from different worlds, too. He is a warrior at heart and sees the whole world as a battlefield. He has made many friends throughout Tokyo via the sword but has not yet found someone to love. However, as he finishes his daily training, a shadow appears in the solemn twilight filtering into the otherwise empty dojo, delivering a surprise that leaves this warrior lad's heart pounding.

Moritaka's Research Files 4

Moritaka has come to this scouting event to further his mastery of the sword. Like a bear who pierces the water's surface to catch its prey, Moritaka has learned a new way to brandish his sword. Moreover, though, there is no better way to relieve the body after hiking and fishing in the mountain's rivers than to take a dip in a hot spring. Together with his trusted friends, he visits the many springs to warm his mind and body. Although a warrior who always acts in earnest, he is enjoying the delights as one of his age would. Having stripped away a layer of himself, he has become more flexible and will most likely continue to grow closer with his friends. The System of the Land of Wa produces many heroes who drive away dark spirits. It is a System that is only held true by the separation of renown and authority.

Moritaka's Note

Part of the Eight Dog Warriors (Hakkenshi) in the novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, where they are distinguished by their peony shaped birthmark, the emblem of the Satomi clan, and carrying a bead bearing a kanji character that reflects one of the eight fundamental virtues of Confucianism. Inuzuka Shino Moritaka bears the bead with the virtue "kō" (孝) meaning filial piety and has his birthmark on the back of his left hand. The same kanji can be seen written on the cloth Moritaka uses to wrap his sword with. The sword he carries is the Murasame, a peculiar sword Shino Inuzuka used in the aformentioned novel that had the ability to produce water from the blade when used to cut keeping the blade free from stain, likened to a rain shower or the dew on leaves.

Shino's Research Files 1

An independent swordsman who bears the same name as a certain student at Shinjuku Academy. This wandering eccentric of a samurai feels at home in the desperation of the battlefield, and bears the sadness of being pulled from his path by the one he loves so that he could live true to himself. He is the type to be extremely persistent about his contract, and expect prompt payment for his services. The Fang Sacred Artifact he carries on his back like a sword overflows with a curse, and his Rule allows him to hit the neck of his target without fail, mercilessly lopping off their head for an instant kill. He believes it his nature to stay on the sidelines, and so shows respect to those who allow him the chance at center stage. He cannot, and therefore will not, oppose a tanuki of any sort.

Shino's Research Files 2

Tied to the memories of a soul, the ripped pieces of which had floated unmoored throughout empty space, he leapt through a mirror and landed in this Tokyo. Here, he met the ones called the eight dog warriors, toward whom he displays a strong sense of attachment and attitude and severity. His striking resemblance to one of their ranks is certainly no coincidence. After all, he inherited the same blood, the same soul, the same Role. Their bonds of fate were so strong that they even hold in common their upbringing as a female in accordance to their respective second mother's wishes. He often finds stern women occupying his thoughts, perhaps because of their resemblance to that mother.

Shino's Research Files 3

First, a cup of tea. He serves his guest with a refined smile. Within this tea house is a scene that defies even dreams. Serving light refreshments while encouraging the children with a gentle grin, he gives the impression of a fatherly figure, or possibly of a loyal warrior serving at their master's side. Someday, those flower petals will blow away in the wind, but for now they are in full bloom. As many things come to an end, the one whose sacrifice produced the eight orbs is now living in a sweet paradise. This moment showcases something that surpasses even the multiple virtues taught in this world. Only those able to blossom into omnipotent knowledge shall be able to see beyond the walled-in paradise.

Shino's Note

His real name Yatsufusa, which is revealed during the events of chapter 8. Yatsufusa is based off of the character of the same name in the novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden. as not to reveal who he really was, Yatsufusa took the name of Inuzuka Shino Moritaka as he looks almost identical to him. In the novel, Yatsufusa was a demon dog who was promised the hand of a princess if he took the head of an enemy general. He was almost betrayed, when he brought the head back, and Fusehime asks to uphold the deal, since a man is only as good as his word. Unfortunately, after certain events, Yatsufusa dies, and his commitment with Fusehime creates 8 souls, each one representing a virtue, and from those 8 shards of souls, come the Hakkenshi, Eight warriors, each bearing the character for dog (犬) in their names, and a peony mark for each. has his birthmark on the back of his right hand.
