Persona Attributes

Yordle

The Yordle are a race of spirits who generally take the appearance of mammalian bipeds. They mostly reside in a mystical place known as Bandle City, though some of them have ventured out to live in numerous locations around Runeterra.

Bandle City

Opinions differ as to where exactly the home of the yordles is to be found, though a handful of mortals claim to have traveled unseen pathways to a land of curious enchantment beyond the material realm. They tell of a place of unfettered magic, where the foolhardy can be led astray by myriad wonders, and end up lost in a dream... In Bandle City, it is said that every sensation is heightened for non-yordles. Colors are brighter. Food and drink intoxicates the senses for years and, once tasted, will never be forgotten. The sunlight is eternally golden, the waters crystal clear, and every harvest brings a fruitful bounty. Perhaps some of these claims are true, or maybe none—for no two taletellers ever seem to agree on what they actually saw.Only one thing is known for certain, and that is the timeless quality of Bandle City and its inhabitants. This might explain why those mortals who find their way back often appear to have aged tremendously, while many more never return at all.

Demacia

A strong, lawful kingdom with a prestigious military history, Demacia's people have always valued the ideals of justice, honor, and duty most highly, and are fiercely proud of their cultural heritage. But in spite of these lofty principles, this largely self-sufficient nation has grown more insular and isolationist in recent centuries. Now, Demacia is a kingdom in turmoil. The capital, the Great City of Demacia, was founded as a refuge from sorcery after the nightmare of the Rune Wars, and built upon the riddle of petricite—a peculiar white stone that dampens magical energy. It is from here that the royal family has long seen to the defense of the outlying towns and villages, farmland, forests, and mountains rich with mineral resources. However, following the sudden death of King Jarvan III, the other noble families have not yet approved the succession of his sole heir, youngPrince Jarvan, to the throne. Those who dwell beyond the heavily guarded borders are increasingly viewed with suspicion, and many former allies have begun to look elsewhere for protection, in these uncertain times. Some dare to whisper that the golden age of Demacia has passed, and unless its people are willing to adapt to a changing world—something many believe they are simply incapable of doing—the kingdom's decline may be inevitable. And all the petricite in the land will not protect Demacia from itself.

Description

Runeterra has no shortage of valiant champions, but few are as tenacious as Poppy. Bearing the legendary hammer of Orlon, a weapon twice her size, this determined yordle has spent untold years searching in secret for the fabled “Hero of Demacia,” said to be its rightful wielder. Until then, she dutifully charges into battle, pushing back the kingdom's enemies with every whirling strike.

Story

According to the legend, this hero is the only person who can fully harness the power of the hammer and lead Demacia to its true greatness. Although Poppy has scoured the farthest corners of the kingdom in search of this legendary fighter, her mission has proved fruitless. Every time she attempted to pass the hammer to a potential hero, the results were disastrous, often culminating in the hero's death. Most people would have given up the task long ago, but they do not possess the determination of this indomitable heroine. Poppy was once a yordle very different from the one she is today. As far as her memories go, she was in search of a purpose. Feeling alienated by the chaotic whims of other yordles, she preferred to approach stability and structure where she found it. This motivation led her to the human settlements of western Valoran, where she watched in awe as caravans and an endless line of people made their way through the countryside. Many of these people seemed ragged and exhausted, but in search of some ephemeral kind of better life just beyond the horizon. One day, however, a different type of caravan passed by. These people seemed to move with purpose, unlike the other travelers. They all woke up at exactly the same time every morning, awakened by the sound of a watchman's horn. They ate their meals together every day at the same time, always finishing within a few minutes. They set up and took down their camps with impeccable efficiency. Unlike the yordles, who used their innate magic to do extraordinary things, these humans achieved equally impressive feats through coordination and discipline. They acted orchestrally, like the gears of a machine, becoming something much greater and stronger than any individual could be. To Poppy, this was more wondrous than all the magic in the world. As she watched the security camp from her hiding place, her eyes were drawn to the gleam of the armor emerging from a tent. It was the official commander of the group, wearing a bright steel breastplate; each part of it overlapping the other, becoming part of a whole. His name was Orlon, and his presence seemed to stir the souls of everyone in the camp. If someone was caught by discouragement, he was there to remind them why they should keep going. If exhaustion was the cause, he inspired them to rise. This reminded Poppy of certain yordle charms, but without magic. She sneaked closer to get a better look. She found herself following the illuminated commander, as if her attraction to him was fate's doing. She watched Orlon as he led his soldiers in training exercises. He wasn't a very large man, but he handled his gigantic battle hammer with surprising diligence. At night, Poppy listened attentively to the discussions he had with one of the sages. She heard them making plans to break camp and head west to build a permanent settlement. Poppy's mind was buzzing with questions. Where was Orlon going? Where did he come from? How did he assemble this meticulous group of travelers? Was there a place for a yordle in it? It was at that moment that she made the most important decision of her life. For the first time, she would reveal herself to a human, for it was the first time she felt connected to one. It was a mutually dissonant introduction in which Orlon had as many questions for Poppy as she had for him, but it ended with both of them inseparable. He became her mentor, and she became devoted to his cause. In the training fields, Poppy was an invaluable sparring partner - the only member of Orlon's battalion who wasn't afraid to hit him. She was never subservient, questioning his decisions with an almost childlike innocence, as if she didn't know she should follow orders obediently. She accompanied him to the site of the new settlement - an ambitious new nation called Demacia, where everyone was welcome, regardless of their position or history, as long as they contributed to the whole. Orlon became beloved throughout the kingdom. Although few had actually seen him wielding his hammer, he always carried it strapped to his back, and the weapon quickly became an icon of reverence for the growing nation. Rumors circulated that it had the power to level mountains and split the earth in two. Orlon passed the hammer to Poppy on his deathbed, along with his hope that the kingdom would endure. It was only then that he told her the story of the hammer's creation and how it had never intentionally come into his hands. He explained to Poppy that the hammer truly belonged to the Hero of Demacia - the only person capable of keeping the realm intact. As her friend took his last breath, Poppy vowed to find that hero and place the weapon in their hands. However, what Poppy has in determination, she lacks in ego because it never occurred to her that perhaps she is the heroine that Orlon described.

Personality

Poppy is a dutiful soldier, described as tenacious and determined, but is not always obedient, shown to question Orlon's orders when she disagrees in an inquisitive and almost childishly naive manner. Nonetheless, Poppy was one of the most devoted followers of Orlon's cause, and continues to abide by her mission even centuries after his death, making her true to her word. By Orlon's description, Poppy embodies the characteristics of the true "Hero of Demacia", and though her humility prevents her from realizing this, her bravery has helped the kingdom numerous times, making her the one rightful wielder of Orlon's hammer.
