Neville Longbottom

Neville is round-faced, with a short build and curly, brown, slightly grown out hair. He had somewhat subtle bucked teeth and green eyes. Neville is described as lacking self-confidence and being shy. His boggart is revealed to be Professor Snape, whom Neville is terrified of because of the treatment the potions teacher gives to the boy. His shy, awkward nature, as well as his magical deficiencies, make him off-putting to the more popular students and an easy target for crueler ones. Indeed, it appears he has few friends, and those students who are cordial, are seemingly only being kind. He loves all things Herbology. Neville Longbottom was born on 30 July 1980 in Great Britain to Frank Longbottom and Alice Longbottom, two Aurors who worked at the Ministry of Magic and were also members of the Order of the Phoenix. Neville grew up with his grandmother, Augusta. She is a stern woman who was concerned when Neville didn’t exhibit signs of magic at an early age like other young wizards. Fortunately, Neville’s abilities showed themselves after his Great Uncle Algie dropped him while he was hanging him out the window by his feet. Rather than meet a terrible fate, the young Neville simply bounced across the yard. When at school, he lived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in Gryffindor Tower. Neville shares a dormitory with the same year boys Harry, Ron, Seamus and Dean. Neville was almost as surprised as his Gran when he is sorted into Gryffindor, a house known for its courageous students. His lack of self-confidence had him convinced he would be placed in Hufflepuff, whose students are often stereotyped as “a load of duffers.” Some of Neville’s interests are Quidditch, Herbology and his toad, Trevor. Like most young wizards, Neville enjoys watching Quidditch matches, though he’s such a terribly uncoordinated flier that he could never play the magical sport himself. Though Neville struggles in most classes, he has an aptitude for Herbology and knows a lot about the magical plants, herbs and fungi they study. One of his closest companions is his toad, Trevor, who he often misplaces. Neville has various challenges, some being like any other student or child, and the others being more difficult and unsettling, forgetting his homework, then he’s losing his toad, falling off brooms, or single-handedly destroying Horcuxes. Of all the challenges Neville faces, believing in himself is the hardest. It’s no secret that Neville is lacking in the confidence department, probably because his stern grandma is sure he won’t live up to his father’s impressive legacy. Neville is so used to being bullied by the likes of Slytherin House’s Draco Malfoy that he doesn’t take pride in himself and his abilities. He has a hard time standing up for himself, but is inspired when his friend Harry Potter tells him that he is “worth 12 of Malfoy.” Neville is slowly but surely learning that he truly belongs in the house of brave and daring Godric Gryffindor. Neville is insecure but also determined and kind. When your parents were tortured into insanity and your teachers openly insult you, it’s tempting to just lie down and give up. But that’s not what Neville does. Instead, he confronts his fears and works to overcome his weaknesses, to the point where he’s able to face Death Eaters without batting an eye. Whether you’re struggling through high school or having trouble with your job, Neville is proof that yes, you can do it — and you will. Even Small steps, after all. They make a difference. He was seen as a scared and meek boy who feared almost everyone. He was bullied constantly by the likes of Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, and many others. However, eventually, Neville seemed to gain some confidence in himself. He was an important member of Dumbledore’s Army and was among its members to fight at the Ministry of Magic in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. In the absence of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in Hogwarts during their absence in seventh year, Neville was the leader of what was left of the Dumbledore’s Army and managed to keep the Carrows and Snape away from their activities in the school. Finally, Neville also killed the final Horcrux, Voldemort’s snake Nagini, with Godric Gryffindor’s sword making it very easy for Harry to eventually defeat Voldemort and restore peace. One other excellent thing about Neville was his loyalty. Despite being a pure-blood who would be accepted in Voldemort's new world, he was never tempted to do anything other than the right thing. He showed loyalty to his friends, his school and also his parents. But he's still so shy and insecure. He loves herbology and talking about hebology, which people finds quite annoying and tells Neville to shut up, Neville always feels bad about it and it makes him quite insecure. He is so precious and fragile, and so polite and kind. He is so shy and nervous, he stutters most of the time.
