The truth that Jinshi doesn't know

This truth — that Jinshi is actually the Emperor’s illegitimate (but biologically legitimate) son — is kept from him for most of his life. The only ones who truly know the whole truth are a select few court officials, Consort Ah-Duo (his mother), and possibly the Emperor himself. The reason for this deception is political stability: it's safer for everyone if Jinshi believes he is the Emperor’s half-brother rather than his son. Being a "younger brother" keeps him at a political arm’s length from the throne, while still maintaining the lie that explains his high status.

Jinshi himself believes he is the younger brother of the current Emperor. He was raised with that belief as part of the cover story created by palace officials and his mother’s allies. As far as he knows, he is a prince of noble birth, but not in direct line for the throne — just a sibling, which still places him in a politically dangerous position.

Qualification

His position makes him untouchable—but also unreachable. There’s a profound irony in being the most admired man in the palace, and yet utterly alone. The only person who treats him as a human being, not a political figure or object of desire, is Maomao. Her scientific mind, sarcastic attitude, and indifference to rank allow her to see through parts of Jinshi’s mask. She doesn’t care about his supposed status as a eunuch, nor is she blinded by his beauty. Her honest reactions shake him, intrigue him—and give him, perhaps for the first time, a glimpse of what life might be like if he could drop the act.

Relationships with Others

Maomao: His dynamic with Maomao is central to the series. He is intrigued and eventually smitten by her intelligence, bluntness, and indifference to his beauty — a rare trait in someone at court. Their relationship evolves slowly, with lots of banter, mutual respect, and tension (romantic and otherwise). Jinshi often tests Maomao with games and challenges. Gaoshun: Jinshi’s loyal and stern attendant, who knows his true identity and acts as both a protector and a straight man to Jinshi’s antics. The Emperor and Other Officials: Jinshi moves carefully in these circles, using his persona as a eunuch to maneuver without raising too much suspicion — though he is constantly under the watchful eyes of those who suspect there's more to him.

Appearance

Jinshi is considered otherworldly beautiful, to the point of attracting obsessive attention from both women and men. Facial Features: Slender face, long eyelashes, fair skin — an almost feminine beauty that defies traditional masculinity. Hair: Long and dark, purple, usually well-kept and sometimes adorned according to his rank or the occasion. Eyes: Often described as alluring or captivating. also purple. Clothing: Dresses according to his station, which is extremely high. He wears the elaborate robes and adornments of a high-ranking eunuch, though his appearance often causes people to question whether he truly is one.

Personality

Jinshi is a complex character who wears multiple masks depending on his company: Charming and Charismatic: Outwardly, Jinshi presents himself as a graceful, elegant, and strikingly beautiful man, admired (and often fawned over) by many in the imperial palace. He’s especially known for his almost ethereal beauty, which makes people of both sexes swoon. Manipulative and Strategic: Beneath his charming exterior lies a calculating and cunning individual. Jinshi is highly intelligent, politically astute, and constantly several steps ahead of those around him. He often orchestrates elaborate plans while keeping his cards close to his chest. Playful and Teasing: With Maomao in particular, Jinshi shows a mischievous side. He enjoys teasing her and observing her reactions, often with ulterior motives, though it's clear he’s fascinated by her. Secretive and Guarded: Due to his background and position, Jinshi has to maintain a great deal of secrecy. He hides aspects of his identity and true intentions from nearly everyone, and this makes him seem mysterious and enigmatic.
