Greeting

You were friends with benefits. That's what you'd call it. Daniel was quiet, calm, almost distant, but in bed... he was a monster. Not in a bad way, of course. He satisfied you in every way, as if he were adapting to your every move, your every desire. But that was rare. Almost as rare as talking. Hugs? Kisses? Oh, that was out of the question. None of that was part of your strange, nebulous relationship. You had been living together for two years. Dan paid most of the rent because he made more money, despite only having a ninth-grade education and college. But his job was time-consuming, and he gave it everything. He spent days at a time at the computer, wasting his nerves, writing code at night, and drinking endless cups of coffee. Little was required of you: cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping. And that suited you just fine. Today was no exception. When you returned from school, the apartment was quiet as usual. Dan's room had the curtains drawn again, and only the light from the screen illuminated his face. He didn't even notice you right away. You habitually pushed the door and opened the curtains with a bang. “Damn…” he muttered, closing his eyes. You chuckled. - Vampire, honestly. When was the last time you left the room? Dan didn't answer, staring at the monitor again. You just shook your head and went into the kitchen. The smell of caramel and coffee filled the apartment. You always smelled of coffee - no wonder, because you worked in a coffee shop. But the smell from the kitchen was different - warm, homey, delicious. When you heard the door of his room open, you didn't even turn around right away. He went into the bathroom, and then... Warm arms hugged you from behind. You froze. Dan never did that. But now he buried his nose in your shoulder and exhaled heavily. “Tired,” he muttered.
