Curly (mouthwashing)

Curly was the original captain of the Tulpar, before the crash and Jimmy taking over. He was at the top of the ship's command and primarily in charge of navigation.

Before the accident, Curly was a man of medium build, with blue eyes, a stubble of beard, and curly blond hair parted in the middle. He wore brown boots and a Pony Express jumpsuit over a red and yellow T-shirt. When the accident happened, he lost half of his right arm, one eye, and much of the skin on his arms, chest, and a sliver of his face was burned. He is missing part of his lips, leaving his teeth visible.

Curly is a promising and ambitious man, and is said to have a bright future ahead of him. Over time, his dissatisfaction with his position grows, wondering if captain is "all he'll ever be." He reflects on having chosen the wrong career path. Still, he cares about his crewmates, who return his respect, being called "great captain." He has personal conflicts with his friend and co-pilot, Jimmy, who both admires and envies Curly. He is responsible but forgiving, and his effort to see the best in everyone leads him to overlook conflicts on the ship. He tends to ignore inconvenient details to focus on the bigger picture, which is one of his biggest flaws. This is symbolically demonstrated when he cannot see the dead pixel on the lounge monitor and when he fails to take action against Jimmy after learning that he assaulted Anya.

Little is known about Curly's life before the events of the game. It can be assumed that he has been working for Pony Express for quite some time, having risen to the top of the hierarchy, as Jimmy states in Chapter 4.

Jimmy and Curly have been friends for quite some time before the events of the game. It is implied that Curly helped Jimmy get the co-pilot position. Curly appears to be forgiving of his friend, ignoring his violent outbursts and taking no serious action after learning that Jimmy raped Anya, assuring him that he "knows him". Despite Jimmy being deeply resentful of Curly and dangerous to his shipmates, Curly trusts him to navigate alone. After the accident, Curly becomes terrified of Jimmy due to the constant abuse. At first, he is uneasy when Jimmy gives him painkillers, as digesting them causes him great pain. However, after Jimmy physically attacks him when he protests about digesting the pills, Curly stops resisting Jimmy's attempt to administer the medicine despite the pain it causes him. He can be heard sobbing and crying during the treatment. When Jimmy takes the gun out of the safe, Curly laughs bitterly at the situation. His fear of Jimmy intensifies when he amputates Curly's leg and forces it on him, surrounded by the corpses of his crewmates. In the end, Jimmy leads Curly to the only remaining cryostasis pod before assuring him that he's finally fixed everything and then ending his own life with the gun.

weapon. Swansea Curly's relationship with Swansea is typical of a captain and his employee. There's mutual respect, and Curly trusts Swansea enough to let him keep the axe after he used it to free Daisuke from the foam before the crash. Swansea complains that everything goes through Curly, unhappy with his importance. When Jimmy takes command after the shipwreck, Swansea seems to prefer his former captain, mocking his attempt to impose his authority. This implies that Swansea might have held Curly in higher esteem than Jimmy as captain. Anya They have a trusting relationship and spend time together on the ship. Anya trusts Curly enough to joke with him after his psychological evaluation, and is distracted by Curly's innocence. Anya confides in Curly about her problems, telling him that the dead pixel on her monitor distracts her and that Jimmy sexually assaulted her. However, Curly seems to think less of her than he does of his copilot, berating her for hiding the gun safe and not taking serious action against Jimmy. Although the crew believes Curly caused the accident, Anya still cares for him. She believes that the worst moment doesn't make you a monster, so she doesn't hold a grudge against her former captain. It pains her to the point of nausea to hear him suffer while he's being given medication, and sometimes she asks Jimmy to do it. When Anya commits suicide, she takes an overdose of Curly's painkillers, locked with him in the doctor's office. Daisuke Curly and Daisuke also have a typical working relationship, with very few personal interactions throughout the game. Despite this, he generally seems neutral, as Curly often leaves Swansea to take care of Daisuke, as he interns under him. He also mentions that he should have nagged the company more for allowing Daisuke on a boat that seats four.

The only time the player sees Curly's face before the accident is in Chapter 20. Curly was never supposed to be shown before the crash until about a month before release, when the script for that scene was slightly rewritten. [ 1 ] Curly's eyeball always follows the player's movements. In real life, Curly would be dead within hours, due to the extensive amount of damage to his skin and lack of proper equipment. Unlike other characters, Curly's post-accident model consists of three pieces: jaw, eyeball, and body. His last name is Curly. His first name, barely visible on his ID, has not been confirmed. Judging by the texture of the card, his first name might be Grant or Glint. If this is true, then it would mean that his full name is Grant Curly or Glint Curly. It is also possible that his name is Cole Curly. Curly appears as a character in How Fish Is Made, the previous game from the developers of Mouthwashing, Wrong Organ. Curly was originally intended to have a British accent, remnants of which still exist in the script. [ 2 ] Curly's favorite Pokémon is Pikachu. [ 2 ] Curly, after the accident, was one of the first things created for the game, as his appearance was always central to the story's identity. [ 1 ] According to Wrong Organ, recording Curly's sounds while taking pills was one of the most fun parts of the game. [ 1 ] Initially, the player was supposed to be asked whether they were playing more like Jimmy or Curly, but this quickly became more frustrating and confusing than engaging. As a result, this idea was scrapped. [ 1 ] An earlier concept for the game had the player give each character a psychological evaluation from Curly's point of view.[ 1 ]

The first scene before the crash, where Curly goes from having his psychological evaluation with Anya to finally having his conversation with Jimmy in the cockpit, was the hardest to write.

Initially, both conversations were much longer, and the player was supposed to see some of the tests being performed. However, the Q&A format was too tedious and made the conversations feel forced, so the development team used fading to imply that the test had already taken place and had Curly and Jimmy speak alternately. [ 1 ] After the Pony Express went bankrupt, Curly was to receive exceptional distinction and references, while the rest of the crew did not. [ 1 ] Curly doesn't like sweets. [ 1 ] One of Curly's fondest birthday memories is when his friends (including Jimmy) made him a chocolate and caramel whey protein cake one year, which collapsed under its weight and tasted like slate. [ 1 ] Curly enjoys weightlifting. He spends most of his time on Earth surrounded by friends and family. There's always someone coming up with something interesting, and Curly likes to try new things when he's not stuck in a race. Winter is his favorite season because he likes snow sports. [ 3 ] Before sitting down with Jimmy for the assessment, if you check the cockpit compartment, you'll find some dialogue about the generator. Curly refers to Swansea as "big swans." "Curly" could be a reference to Laika (nicknamed "Little Curly"), a Soviet dog sent into space. Laika was sent without any plan for her return, leading to a slow, excruciating, and painful death in space.
