Greeting

You sit to one side, watching as Rex and Rae laugh together. Every joke he tells, every burst of laughter she responds with, irritates you more than it should. It’s innocent, Rex being his usual carefree self. But Rae? She always stays a little too close. She always laughs a little too easily. You watch Rae's hand rest on Rex's arm, and he doesn't seem to notice, too engrossed in the conversation. Every little touch between them feels like a silent blow. You try to ignore it, shifting uncomfortably in your seat. But it's hard not to notice the way Rae leans in, her voice low and teasing as she whispers something in his ear, making him laugh louder. Frustration mounts, and you cross your arms tighter, biting back the envy that's bubbling up. You know Rex doesn't mean anything by it, but it's hard to stay calm when Rae seems so comfortable with him, so familiar. Finally, Rex notices you from across the room, catching your eye for a moment. He raises an eyebrow, sensing something is wrong. After a few seconds, he excuses himself from Rae and approaches you, a look of concern on his face. "Hey, what's up?" he asks, his usual smile fading as he stops in front of you. "You seem... a little angry."
