Dream. Origin and character.

Origin Dream was created from the light that was excluded by the Tree of Dreams, better known as the Tree of Feelings. Even though he is Sans, he is more correctly called Dream, named after the Tree that gave him life. Dream originally did not have the soul of a monster or a human, but when his brother Nightmare destroyed the Tree of Feelings and absorbed all the tainted apples, Dream absorbed the last golden apple, which became his soul, making him mortal. Personality Dream's childish behavior is due to his imprisonment in a stone for 494 years. In fact, Dream did not have a stage of growing up, which is why he is still young in character and knowledge. His soul itself is a source of positive feelings, which is why Dream is not capable of showing hatred to anyone (even to his brother), but this does not cancel the fact that he is capable of experiencing other negative emotions, like other living beings. Due to the fact that Dream was imprisoned in a stone, although he was unconscious, he continued to feel the emotions of all the inhabitants of the multiverse and during 494 years of imprisonment, he felt a large amount of negativity growing because of his brother. Against this background, he slightly shows mental trauma, as he regrets that he could not help anyone during these centuries. In any universe that Dream does not belong to, he will try to fit in as best as possible[2].

Dream. Appearance and powers and weapons.

Appearance Dream is shorter than the original Sans and a skeleton. He wears a golden crown on his head and a light blue jacket, with slightly darker pants. The jacket is closed by a golden belt with the initials "DS" on it (Dream Sans). On the sides of the belt are orbs containing everyone's hopes and dreams. He has boots that match his belt, and he also wears a golden cape, a gift from his brother, associated with the badge. His second look consists of a black suit with black gloves, over which he wears regular yellow gloves and yellow boots with green ribbons. A yellow cape/vest. His scarf with the image of the sun on the back of his head, which is the last remnants of the former cape that Nightmare tore. There are two ribbons with images of the sun on the back, and a pink badge with a star is attached to the front. The belt with the initials "DS" is now green. Powers and weapons As the embodiment of good emotions, Dream can absorb positive emotions in his surroundings and use them to heal himself or his companions, though this costs a lot of energy; he can also use them to increase his speed and strength, though his physical strength is already high, allowing him to lift entire boulders.[3] His weapons[4] are a golden staff with stars on the ends and a golden bow that shoots energy arrows that are composed of the same emotions. These arrows are one of the few weapons that can hurt Nightmare. His bow can also split into two daggers connected by a bowstring, though he only uses this when absolutely necessary. Dream is only able to travel to universes where there are positive emotions. He can also use his staff to create a barrier. Dream himself is immortal in the physical sense, but being in an AU where only negative emotions are present, Dream will begin to lose strength and possibly die if he is there for a long time.

Dream. Interesting facts.

Dream constantly travels across the multiverse because he needs to spread positive emotions to the universes. This is also due to the fact that, unlike Nightmare, Dream's aura is very weak and cannot reach every universe. Dream is not such a good-natured and pure character in the face of the fandom, as he is an egoist in his own way. This is revealed by the fact that when his former brother Nightmare lived with him in Dreamtale, Dream constantly broke the gifts from the inhabitants for his brother, since there was nothing in them. Dream himself created and came up with gifts so that Nightmare would think that the inhabitants of their universe appreciated him. Guardian of the golden, light or sleepy fruit/apple created by the Tree of Feelings. RESET in any universe does not affect Dream, as he is an extra-code character. In one of the answers to the question about Dream and Nightmare's bodies, Joku answered that it is possible that Dream (and Nightmare) will have human forms in the future, but it is not certain yet. Dream did not neglect Nightmare in the past, but on the contrary, tried to be with him as often as possible, but Nightmare himself asked Dream to spend time with friends, knowing that he is an extrovert, while Nightmare was more of an introvert. Dream and Ink were friends for some time, but due to their differences in worldviews[6], they separated (Ink does not care about what happens in the universes as long as they are not interfered with, while Dream does care about the feelings of the inhabitants of the universes). However, they are not enemies. Dream respects Error because he knows that if he doesn't keep the AU balanced, everyone will die (at least according to Joku's interpretation of the multiverse). Dream's updated design symbolizes his "growing up" and accepting the loss of his former brother Nightmare.[7][8] His second design features two new weapons that have not yet been revealed.[9] It is now known that Dream's weapon has 4 forms: a staff, a shield, a bow, and a sabre[10]. Nightmare. Personality.

Personality Initially, before the bullying, Nightmare was quite a cocky and very confident brother. He always wanted to learn new things, even if it was something dangerous or not very good for many purposes. This habit has been passed on to the current Nightmare, as he reads books from time to time.[3] Nightmare is quite attracted to negative emotions and will do everything to get as many of them as possible, meaning that killing victims makes no sense to him, since without them there will be no negative emotions he needs. However, he kills those who break contracts with him, or makes him remember what he was like in the past, before he was corrupted, or when he is pissed off (though in this case he will still try to make his victim suffer and experience the deepest negative emotions, such as doom, despair, or other similar emotions). Nightmare never lies, he only hides the truth. He takes deals to heart, which is why he kills those who break them without question. Despite Nightmare's inability to show sympathy to anyone, he can, in a way, "sympathize" with those who share a similar fate to himself - the rejected and bullied outcasts of society. Seeing such scenes, Nightmare falls into a wild rage and kills without a second thought anyone who bullied his kind in the past. This is his only manifestation of weakness and fear, although he tries to deny it, despite the fact that fear is also considered a negative emotion. Unlike Dream, Nightmare is very well-read and intelligent, as he has had the opportunity to study information and travel across the multiverse for 500 years, spreading his negativity. Because of this, Nightmare acts like a fully grown character (you could say that he is an older brother to Dream). His current appearance is quite sinister. Nightmare. History.

Story Past As a child, Nightmare cared for his brother, his homeland, and the tree that gave them life. Together with his brother Dream, he guarded the Tree as a Guardian. Over time, people came from all over the world to get just one golden fruit from his brother. But no one took the apples from Nightmare's side. Who wants to feel bad? And soon many began to avoid him. "He's weird", "His name means something bad", "He guards the dark side of the Tree of Feelings" - some people whispered. Nightmare began to be hated more and more, throwing everything they could at him. When he got some bruises, he told his brother that he had tripped. Those who felt sorry for him changed their minds, starting to hate him too. After some time, he tried to prove to everyone that he was not bad, that he could take care of his brother's golden fruits, trying to touch the fruits from the Light side. But at his touch, the apples turned from golden to dark, similar to those that grew on his side due to Nightmare feeling fear and oppression. All the golden fruits turned black, the leaves of the Tree fell, and the sky turned scarlet. Dream saw all this. Meanwhile, people and monsters were advancing, feeling hatred. Now, because of him, they will no longer be able to receive happiness. Dream tried to stop them, but he was literally trampled. And suddenly, someone's voice ordered Nightmare to eat all the fruits. This voice did not sound like the voice of the spirit of the Tree of Feelings, but rather the opposite, as if someone else was standing behind him, giving these advices. As he devoured the dark fruits, his eye sockets filled with darkness, cracks appeared on his body. Soon, he vomited black mucus, and tentacles pierced his ribs. After some time, a black monster stood in the place of the guardian. For a while there was a deathly silence, but soon it was broken by the sound of tentacles whistling through the air, cutting like blades into everyone in their path. This is an incomplete story of how he became what we know him as today[5].

Nightmare. Abilities and weaknesses.

Capabilities Nightmare is powerful enough to be able to temporarily force his brother Dream to retreat from a fight. His aura can affect the entire universe he is in and many others that are close enough. He does not need to move much to spread negativity, and he only does so to find people to torment. He can turn into a puddle and move around without being noticed. He is able to teleport through darkness. Nightmare can only visit AUs with negative emotions, such as Negatale. He uses bad emotions to manipulate people. He can change his shape, but usually maintains Sans's form because it suits him. He can also split himself in half to make multiple selves perform different actions. As shown in one of the animated clips from Joku, he can also absorb his slime into the ground, turning a large area into darkness.[6] He uses his tentacles to fight and intimidate enemies. The black slime that surrounds him is an extremely powerful shield, making him invulnerable to most things; if he were to be pierced by something, his body would absorb it and no damage would occur. This applies not only to physical ones, but also to magical ones. Weaknesses Positive is his main weakness that only Dream can exploit. This is the only way to defeat Nightmare. Light is one of his weaknesses. If you illuminate a dark area, he can get injured. He also completely fails to fit into positive AUs like Haventale or A Tale o Doggy. A similar thing happens to Dream in Horrortale. Since he only has one eye to see, he has a blind spot.
