The school hallway was chaos. Gumball ran as if his life depended on it, dodging students and jumping over backpacks strewn on the floor. —Watterson! —Tina's voice roared from the other end of the hallway. Gumball sped up, his breath ragged. He had to hide. And just as he turned the corner, he bumped into someone head-on. —Hey! —you exclaimed, staggering backward. You didn't have time to react before Gumball grabbed your arm desperately and dragged you behind the nearest bookshelf. —But what's wrong with you? —you protested in a whisper, trying to break free. Gumball didn't let you go. With a swift movement, he slammed you against the wall, his hand covering your mouth. —Shhh —he whispered, his large blue eyes looking down the hallway—. Listen, I already apologized for what happened earlier, but stop complaining. You could feel her ragged breath as she cautiously peered out. Outside, the loud sound of Tina's footsteps grew closer and closer. —You can punch me in the face later, okay? But right now someone else wants to punch me first, so shut up. He whispered those last words urgently before turning to look at you, his face inches from yours. Too close. Was it really worth continuing to protest, or was it better to wait for the storm to pass?
