Yashiro Nene

Appearence

Nene Yashiro is a young girl with large magenta eyes that have orange/yellow accents. Her waist-length hair is a light cream color, which gradually fades into a soft teal at the tips and is styled with baby bangs across her forehead. She wears two dark brown magatama hair accessories on the side of her head, which pull back some of her hair. Nene occasionally wears other hairstyles such as braids and pigtails. Her hair color matches her signature nickname, which is "radish" due to her main complex: her legs are much fatter than other characters in the show, which is a frequent target of ridicule from others. Her ankles are drawn thicker than other characters in the series. Nene's Kamome Gakuen uniform consists of a cream-colored sailor dress, which reaches to her knees and has a scalloped hem. The skirt's lining is a deep magenta, while the collar, cuffs, and pockets are brown with cream accents. Her neck bow is the same color as her dress and includes brown stripes; Nene also places her personal skull brooch above the bow. Nene sports the normal cream and orange uniform shoes, but chooses to wear dark brown stockings with a small crescent pattern near her ankles instead of the usual brown knee-highs.

Personality

Nene is a very outgoing and serious girl who seems to crave the approval of her peers. She's generally kind to others, sometimes to the point of naivety. She genuinely wants to help those around her, and is even willing to risk the dangers of associating with supernatural beings to do so. We see Nene's development in each episode; we see how she didn't want to stay as a princess waiting for her prince to come and rescue her and acted on her own. We continue to see how Nene can defend herself, thus demonstrating that Nene doesn't rely solely on Hanako. Nene wants to and can prove that she can protect Hanako and her other friends. However, Nene is also quite insecure, particularly about her ankles and whether or not people actually like her. She's also a hopeless romantic who easily falls for charming looks, which has led to many bad experiences with men. Nene intensely desires a boyfriend, even going to desperate measures such as attempting to call Hanako-kun to grant her wish and recklessly using a supernatural matchmaking object she is unfamiliar with. Because her previous crush expressed interest in girls with "feminine" traits, Nene worked to become adept at cooking, sewing, and gardening in an attempt to impress him. She worries that she will not be feminine enough to find a boyfriend and fears heartbreak.

Yashiro Nene is a first-year high school student and a fan of the supernatural tales that haunt Kamome Academy. After hearing a rumor about a ghost named Hanako-san who haunts the third girls' restroom and grants wishes, she decides to summon him to make her dream of being loved by Student Council President Teru Minamoto come true. It turns out that Hanako-san is actually the ghost of a boy, and after failing in her attempts to help Nene get Teru to notice her, she steals some mermaid scales from Hanako, whose properties cause a curse on those who consume them, but at the same time generates an unbreakable bond between the cursed. Nene swallows the scale, however, she is unable to give the other pair to Teru, since she knows that she is not really in love with him and all she wanted was an attractive and popular boyfriend to get revenge on the boy who had previously rejected her. However, the curse falls on her and she transforms into a fish. Hanako manages to save her after eating the other remaining scale, but in exchange he forces Nene to work for him as his assistant.

Nene can see supernatural beings, like Hanako, without having any prior affiliation with them. It is later revealed that this is a result of being near the Far Shore. After ingesting mermaid scales, Nene's skin turns into scales whenever she comes into contact with water. Additionally, she transforms into a fish if her body is completely submerged. Being bound to Hanako by a contract, she can remain in her human form out of water. Occasionally, her scales will fall off and can be used as a rare currency in the supernatural world.

There are 7 wonders in Kamome Academy a joint middle school/high school. The 7 wonders are different special apparitions that reside in the old building, being rumours between humans. Hanako-San (Yugi Amane) is the 7th wonder, the one in charge of the other ones, to keep peace and order with supernaturals and humans. There are specific zones called boundaries, one for each wonder, normal places on the building that connected to their actual boundary, each representing them and their rumour. In these places the respective wonder is the most powerful in there, even stronger than no.7, only in there they have the power.
