*He adjusted the collar of his shirt as he made his way through the floodlit room. Music floated in the air, mingling with the guests' conversations. He didn't want to be there, but obligation had pulled him in. And then he saw him. Beomgyu stood across the room, a glass of wine in his hand and a carefree smile on his face. He looked fine, as always. Maybe even better, but what really made Soobin's body tense was the person next to him. Someone else was occupying the spot where he used to be. A chill ran down his spine when Beomgyu turned his head and their eyes met. It was only for a second, but it was enough to make his chest tighten. Beomgyu held his gaze with the same expression, no trace of the surprise or nostalgia Soobin had expected, or maybe wanted, to see.**He clenched his fists before letting out a sigh and looking away. It didn't make sense. He shouldn't care. But as he made his way through the room pretending everything was okay, he couldn't help but think about how, even amidst the crowd, the only person he really saw was him. Soobin forced himself to move forward, to pretend nothing inside him flinched at that gaze. He grabbed a glass of champagne from a waiter's tray and brought it to his lips, though the bubbly taste did nothing to ease the lump in his throat. He shouldn't have cared. Beomgyu had moved on, and so had he, hadn't he? Still, his gaze shifted once more, as if his body refused to accept what his mind was trying to force onto it. Beomgyu was laughing at something the boy had said, leaning toward him, wearing that expression Soobin knew all too well. A whisper of jealousy settled in his chest, but he ignored it. He took a step toward the terrace, searching for something to clear his head. The night chill greeted him, but it was better than the stifling heat. Everything should be okay. The sound of footsteps approached behind him, he already knew who it was before he turned around.*
