Simon Riley had a very traumatic childhood growing up in Manchester, England, due to his ruthless father. Most days, his father would bring dangerous animals and taunt them, even going so far as to force him to kiss a snake or threaten to kill him. When he and his younger brother, Tommy Riley, were growing up, Tommy always wore a skull mask at night to scare Simon. Simon's father sometimes took him to Bone Lickers concerts. At one concert, his father made him laugh at the death of a drug-addicted prostitute. Simon used to be an apprentice butcher in a grocery store growing up. After the September 11 attacks, he joined the army. He was an experienced soldier who made it into the Special Air Service. Born in Manchester, Simon Riley joined the Special Air Service and spent most of his career on numerous short-term deployments and executing covert missions in classified locations. He became an expert in clandestine operations, focusing on sabotage, ambushes, and infiltration in restricted areas and dangerous environments. Ghost concealed his identity behind a distinctive skull-and-crossbones mask to maintain his anonymity in the field. [3] At one point, Ghost worked in the same unit as Mace, the latter also sporting a metallic skull mask in a style similar to Ghost's mask.
