Satoru Gojo (五条悟, Gojō Satoru) is a character in the manga series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School and one of the protagonists of the sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen. Known by the nickname The Strongest Shaman (最強の呪術師, Saikyō no Jujutsu-shi), he is one of the four Special Class shamans, a former classmate of Suguru Geto and Shoko Ieiri, and the current teacher at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, in charge of the first-year students. As the sole member and head of the Gojo Clan, he is a descendant of the shaman and vengeful spirit, Sugawara-no-Michizan[3], and heir to the Unlimited Curse Technique and the power of the six eyes. From the day of his birth, a balance of power existed between humanity and the curses; the fall of his clan and therefore his death would mean losing that balance, sparking a full-scale war that humanity would find difficult to win.[4]

APPEARANCE

Satoru is a thin and fairly tall man, reaching 190 centimeters [2]. His hair is white and he usually wears it combed upwards with spiky locks when he is working as a teacher or shaman; in his free time, he usually has all his hair disheveled and much of it tends to fall over his face, covering much of his forehead and eyes. His eyes are a peculiar light blue color and in his irises, an image similar to the sky tends to appear [5] [6]. He is considered attractive by many women. He often uses a dark-colored cloth to cover his eyes; while in the prequel series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, Gojo's eyes are covered with white bandages.[7] During his younger days, he used to wear sunglasses instead of bandages or cloth.[8] His signature outfit consists of a high-collared black coat, long black pants, and black shoes; this same outfit, in the anime, is depicted in navy blue.[9] Opting to dress more casually, Gojo wears dark, round glasses instead of a blindfold and rather casual clothing, usually dark, long-sleeved shirts and baggy pants. As a child, he used to wear traditional Japanese clothing consisting of a kimono and his haori had a pattern with shapes similar to dragonflies.[10] At other times, he would wear casual clothes such as light-colored sweatshirts and dark pants.[11]

PERSONALITY

Satoru is a complex individual, as he is generally an authority figure assigned to teach novices about the dangerous world of jujutsu, but can be casual, friendly, and playful towards people like his students and colleagues, but is indifferent and cruel to people like the Shaman executives; he even has a dream of creating the best shamans to fight against them. He is very confident in his abilities and reputation as a powerful shaman. By casually dismissing Sukuna's personal threats, he could easily defeat the Curse King.[12] During his younger days, he was a rather arrogant person and constantly openly questioned why he needed to help humanity.[8] However, after the death of Riko Amanai and the disappearance of Misato Kuroi,[13] along with the betrayal of his former best friend Suguru Geto, caused him to mature greatly.[14] Despite his relaxed and childish demeanor, Satoru has moments where he becomes serious and ruthless, becoming quite ruthless when facing Curse users and Curse-users in combat. In his fight against Hanami, he broke Hanami's antlers and immobilized him before killing him. According to Suguru Geto, Satoru only uses his full power when no one is around him, although he only does so because he considers them to be a hindrance. He also has no problem taking innocent human lives if it means exorcising the Curses. In Shibuya, Satoru did not hesitate to kill a thousand modified humans. Unlike Kento Nanami, Satoru can be very cold and indifferent to the deaths of innocent people, even so, he cares greatly about the lives of his students and fellow shamans, feeling guilty when Itadori was almost killed by Sukuna. However, despite his arrogance and strength, Satoru is more human than he appears.

PERSONALITY #2

After defeating Toji, Satoru retrieved Riko's corpse with a sorrowful look, showing that while his recent conceited victory temporarily clouded his feelings, he still held some grief over her death. He attempted to kill the Star Religious members who were laughing at Riko's death, though he was stopped by Suguru Geto, whom he relied on as a moral compass at the time, before taking any action. Furthermore, Satoru was later visibly horrified and panicked after learning that Suguru, his only best friend, had become a witch. Satoru attempted to reason with his friend, but eventually came to the realization and acceptance that he had lost the only person he truly saw as an equal. After having to finish off Suguru before further calamity arose, it was Satoru's trauma over losing his best friend that caused his ultimate downfall in Shibuya. He was also distraught when Yuji seemingly died. Satoru is not afraid to defy the rules and go against the orders of those in charge, and often goes behind their backs, such as when he decides not to report that Yuji Itadori was alive when everyone thought he was dead, which frequently incurs the ire of people like the Gakuganji headmaster of the Kyoto Metropolitan Magic Technical College.

According to information revealed in Volume 01[2]: He is 28 years old. He is quite tall (probably over 1.90 centimeters). His face was regularly revealed during the prequel series, Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. The current headmaster of the Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College, Principal Masamichi Yaga, was his teacher when he was a student. He started eating sweets to stimulate his brain, and since then he has become very greedy. He can do anything he tries, so he tries not to get too involved in anything. According to him, this is all for the good of the next generation. According to information revealed in Volume 04, after revealing that Itadori was alive, Director Yaga punished Gojo by[15]: Hide that Itadori was alive. He doesn't have any hobbies or special skills as he can do everything. His favorite food is sweet things. His least favorite food is alcohol. Their cause of stress is the actions of the bigwigs. Information revealed from the interview with Gege Akutami: Akutami said that when creating Gojo, he wanted to create a strong character that was easily distinguishable. Gojo's first impression upon seeing Suguru was "a fringe." Halfway through, Akutami tries to draw him attractive. Gojo still thinks that caring for the weak is tiring. After Gojo retrieved Riko Amanai's body, and in front of the Time Vessel Association, he asked Suguru "Do you want me to kill them? The current me probably wouldn't feel anything if I did," he did so as he was using Suguru's moral judgment as an estimation for what is good and what is evil, as if it were his own principle. After Suguru became a cursed user he seems to have matured more. The Gojo family is probably alive and well. Akutami said that Gojo would probably be good at science but since he didn't have good grades, Gojo probably doesn't either. Gojo could teach other subjects not related to jujutsu, but he probably doesn't have a teaching license. Gojo doesn't sleep much. Akutami can't imagine Gojo being faithful to one particular woman. After Toji made him aware of Megumi's existence, Gojo went to see him because he was looking to recruit a talented person. Gojo helped Yuta and Yuji because they were both strong, so he doesn't pay attention to any other external details.

CURIOSITIES #3

Gojo often calls his students by their first names, but it doesn't have any special meaning, he doesn't usually think about things much. Akutami revealed that he had heard that Gojo has powers similar to Kakashi Hatake, a recurring character in the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden manga, however he has said that Gojo is not actually on the same level as Kakashi. Furthermore, for Gojo's character design, rather than drawing inspiration from Kakashi, he was inspired by a blindfolded proctor during the second stage of the Chuunin Exams, Tonbo Tobitake. Akutami recalls that this character left a huge impression on him, so much so that when he first met Masashi Kishimoto, he asked him about the character, but Kishimoto replied "Was there a boy like that...?" He likes very sweet curry with tons of apples and honey[19]
