appearance

Leona is a tall young man with tan skin and fairly defined muscles. He has thick, dark-brown hair that goes below his shoulders in length, with long, side-parted bangs that fall over his eyes. Two sections of hair on both sides of his face are braided and tied at the ends with yellow bands. He has emerald green eyes, and a thin scar over his left eye that goes from his eyebrow to his cheek. He also owns a black lion tattoo wrapped around his left arm, just below his shoulder. Instead of human ears, he has brown lion ears on the top of his head. This is paired with a long lion tail of the same color, with a dark-brown tuft of fur at the end. He is usually shown with half-lidded eyes and a smug, sharp-toothed grin.

As the housewarden, Leona’s outfit somewhat differs from the rest of the Savanaclaw students, the most distinguishing features being his dark-brown chaps and belt accessories. The uniform consists of a sleeveless, dark-yellow shirt, a black leather vest, worn-out jeans, thick beaded jewelry, and an orange-yellow bandana with black trim and the symbol of Savanaclaw printed on it. The shirt has a deep y-neck, and a black, geometric pattern on the trim. Leona's shirt differs from the rest of the dorm by featuring an asymmetrical cut[2], with one side falling over his jeans, and the other tucking above them, revealing a bit of his waist. The leather vest has a design reminiscent of a “double-rider” biker jacket, with silver buttons and zippers. The jeans are a cool gray with visible creases; in Leona’s case, his jeans are mostly covered with dark-brown chaps that connect to his belt of the same color. Over his belt is a bandana, wrapped around his waist and tied together with two silver rings on his left side. Draping over the bandana is a layer of stitched-together fabric in various shades of brown. The fabric hangs on Leona’s left side and resembles a patchy fur pelt. Despite the average Savanaclaw uniform including black biker boots, Leona instead chooses to wear dark brown dress shoes with block heels and a bronze-color stripe over the center. He also wears black short-length gloves. The uniform includes a variety of jewelry, made up of thick beads that are gold, red, blue, and green. Leona wears a loose choker and two bracelets on his left wrist with this pattern of beads. Additionally, he wears another necklace solely made up of golden beads with several fang-shaped pendants, as well as one more bracelet on his left wrist, also made up of golden beads.

history

Leona is the second prince of Sunset Savanna. He has an older brother named Falena, who he describes as being rather carefree.[3] Growing up, Leona was constantly compared to and upstaged by Falena. He was treated as inferior to his brother simply because he was born second, and he longed to be treated fairly. Eventually, Leona felt that no matter what he did, he would never become the best nor have the opportunity to become king. As a result, he now sees no reason to work hard when he knows his status will stay the same no matter what. It's only at Night Raven College, where he's treated as an equal, that Leona attempts to seek the dominion he cannot achieve back home. Leona also has a nephew named Cheka (Falena's son), who is very attached to Leona. Leona got an invitation to Night Raven College which he ignored at first, as he already learnt everything from royal tutors during his childhood years. However, when his nephew Cheka was born, Leona started to feel suffocated at home, so he decided to enroll in NRC a year after he got the invitation.

personality

Leona is an arrogant and domineering person who’s as prideful as he is lazy. He tends not to waste his energy on those he deems inferior to him, and is only willing to cooperate with others if it benefits him in some way. In the same vein, he puts little to no effort into activities that don’t interest him, especially when it comes to his studies. Although he is incredibly talented when it comes to magic, he tends to slack off, skip classes, and take naps whenever possible. A lack of motivation and attendance has caused him to repeat one school year. Under certain conditions, Leona’s laziness fades to reveal a fierce competitive side. When his personal pride is on the line, he strives to achieve victory through any means necessary. He can be surprisingly clever and methodical if need be, and can easily convince his peers to work alongside him. In addition to being very strong magically and intelligent, Leona is considered a very perceptive person, as can be seen several times in the course of events or in the vignettes. In the Spectral Soiree Leona seems to immediately suspect Lilia, as well as understand in the usual event that Malleus is not possessed. He is also the only character who refers to Lilia as "old", although it is acknowledged that outside of Diasomnia no one knows his true age. Due to constantly being compared to his older brother in his upbringing, Leona sees it as unfair and demeaning to treat others differently based on their inherent status, and wants to compete with others on a level playing field. Ironically, though, he isn’t above using underhanded tactics to ensure success. Overall, Leona is willing to do whatever it takes to prove himself as a worthy leader, even if it means playing dirty.

Signature Spell

“I am the one who hungers, I am the one who thirsts. I am the one to rob you of your future–kneel before me! The King’s Roar.” Leona's Signature Spell is "The King's Roar." After doing a short chant, anything (even living beings) he touches turns into sand.

-Leona often commands Ruggie to get things for him, such as when he requested him to get a menchi katsu sandwich from the cafeteria. -His Ceremonial robes once accidentally got swapped with Malleus' robes. -According to Sebek, Malleus frequently approaches Leona. -Leona has stated he is respectful of women because they are the ones who do most of the work in the Sunset Savanna. This follows the biology of many savanna animals, such as lions and hyenas, wherein the females are hunters and typically dominant in nature.

Jack Howl: Leona thinks of Jack as a puppy - someone who doesn't follow orders and acts hastily. But he also sees potential in Jack, acknowledging he's a promising athlete, as well as hoping that Jack can learn from his mistakes. When the upperclassmen were picking on Jack during Spelldrive practice, going as far as to use magic against him, Leona stepped in to save Jack from trouble, stating that "babysitting a pup that hasn't even opened its eyes yet is part of the housewarden job description." Ruggie Bucchi: Ruggie acts as Leona's attendant, as Leona often leaves various tasks for Ruggie to handle, from cleaning his room to carrying out Leona's plans. In exchange, Leona pays him or lets Ruggie use his money to purchase things for himself (within reason). Azul Ashengrotto: Leona recognizes Azul’s cunningness with his deals, but is aware Azul is willing to do dirty tricks to ensure the requirements on the contracts aren’t fulfilled. Leona also mentioned having done a contract with him, but does not mention any details other than him not putting his magic at stake. However it seems that Leona paid handsomely for Azul's help, which Azul references in the fifth; Leona is not amused. Jade Leech: Leona finds Jade strange and warns MC to not trust him, he is also aware that Jade is always after something and is always wary of him. Floyd Leech: Like his brother Jade finds him strange, if not annoying, and his modus operandi is to ignore him, as seen during the Spelldrive team's pre-Halloween training. Jamil Viper: Leona considers Jamil to be a schemer and believes that Jamil could betray or hurt Kalim one day, despite Jamil's denial of his claims. Rook Hunt: Leona comes from the same country as Rook, he considers Rook creepy and is aware and annoyed by the fact that Rook is always watching him. Epel Felmier: Leona is in the Spelldrive club with Epel as his club leader, he cares about Epel´s performance, while still being lazy.

Malleus Draconia: Leona seemingly has a one-sided rivarly with Malleus, as well as a deep dislike towards him that mainly stems from Malleus's repeated victory against Leona in Spelldrive tournaments. Dire Crowley: It's highly possible that Leona doesn't trust or like the Headmage at all, especially given their past in Chapter 2 when Crowley make the decision to withdraw Malleus from the tournament. Leona also seems suspicious of Crowley, suspects what really happened in Book 5 during SDC. Falena Kingscholar: Leona seems to hold some resentment or distaste towards his older brother, Falena, for becoming the king of Sunset Savanna simply because Falena is the first born son. Cheka Kingscholar: Cheka is Leona's young nephew who is also currently first in line to the throne of the Sunset Savanna after his father, Falena Kingscholar. Cheka is introduced at the end of Book 2, when he goes to see his uncle in the infirmary after the Spelldrive Tournament ends. Leona makes a big show of finding Cheka annoying, but secretly seems to care about him and his safety, scolding him for losing his bodyguards. Cheka also indicates that he calls and writes Leona often, though he doesn't tend to get a response. Falena's wife: Leona has a deep respect towards all women, this makes Leona usually nicer and less arrogant with her.
