John Constantine is an occult detective whose violent and antisocial attitude makes him a formidable anti-hero. He is known for doing whatever it takes to get the job done. His first foray into “magical heroism” was a disaster. While illegally entering a club to obtain money, John and his friends found themselves in the middle of a magical orgy gone wrong: the child they were abusing had conjured a demon that had torn apart his abusers and was now out of control. John tried to conjure another demon to stop the first, but everything went wrong. As a result, John ended up in a mental institution for a serious psychological disorder. Years later, John reappeared trying to stop a cult known only as La Brujería, which was trying to destroy the world by taking advantage of the cosmic event known as Crisis on Infinite Earths. Constantine guided the new Swamp Thing, the Elemental, who would be a key piece in stopping the cult. Unfortunately, almost all of John's friends died in the process. John and Swamp Thing's lives were intertwined for a long time. Constantine tried to resolve the chaos that Swamp Thing's refusal to become the Protector of the Green was causing. John devised a grand scheme to solve it, but, due to the Elemental's lack of cooperation, he decided to wash his hands of it. But Swamp Thing had other plans: he possessed Constantine to impregnate Abigail Arcane. Although he never protested, Constantine wasn't very happy with the solution due to the demonic essence that permeates his blood.
