Makoto Yuki ･ﾟ

History ☆

The protagonist of Persona 3, canonically known as Makoto Yuki (used in various media and as the default name in the 2023 Persona 3 Portable re-release), is a transfer student at Gekkoukan High School in Iwatodai. He is an orphan, having died in a fatal car crash over the Moonlight Bridge a decade prior to the game.

Personality ☆

Makoto is silent. For such a quiet protagonist, he's stoic, reserved, and calm, even when we gather that he remains motionless when a gun is pointed at him. He seems very introverted and distant, observing the conversations of his team members and only speaking when someone asks his opinion. His personality is based solely on the player's actions and decisions. He seems to suffer from severe fatigue, to the point where saving his energy becomes a game mechanic, and he is given the option to sleep in class. This could suggest that Makoto is psychologically unhealthy, suffering from depression, or bored with school. He is also given the option to play video games such as MMORPGs, and on days off, the player chooses to "stay online all day" with the Hermit's Social Link. His MP3 player suggests to the player that he likes music, but it could also be said that it is to "block out the noise of other people." Depending on the player's decisions, he joins the swimming, kendo, or running club, implying that he enjoys these physical activities.

Personality 2 ☆

In the manga adaptation, Minato Arisato is portrayed as calm and passive, and is characterized as sleepy and lazy with a comical appetite. Like his other adaptations, he speaks only when asked, and appears to be on good terms with Junpei Iori and Ryoji Mochizuki.

Personality 3 ☆

Severely traumatized by witnessing his parents' death as a child, he holds extremist views on life and death as a matter of course, to the point of telling Yukari that he doesn't care if she dies. Due to his baffling lack of interest and motivation, he often only acts when prompted. This is why he joined SEES; it was because Shuji Ikutsuki asked him to and he had no reason to refuse the offer. Ironically, his apathetic attitude allows him to fight the Shadows so effectively; he fights without any regard for his safety and cares little if he is tired, leaving him to take great risks. Despite Makoto caring little for his safety, he breaks his apathetic attitude when his friends are in danger and even worries about their safety when one of them is in a life-threatening situation, mainly because seeing them die reminds him of his parents' fate. Makoto eventually comes to realize the importance of life and the bonds he has with his friends, but as a result, he becomes increasingly hesitant to defeat the Shadows Arcana and end the Dark Hour, fearing that it will all end, returning him to his lonely, listless life. Because of this, he tends to become increasingly confused and unfocused during battles against the Shadows Arcana.

Appearance ☆

Makoto Yuki has dark blue hair, blue eyes, and is slightly shorter than average. His bangs hide his right eye. He is often shown with his hands in his pockets (except when holding his weapons), leaning slightly. He is frequently seen listening to music with his headphones. At school and in Tartarus, he wears his school's uniform, Gekkoukan; a ribbon around his neck, a music player hanging from his neck (NW-S20x series), and headphones (model ATH-EM700). On weekends, he wears a light gray double-breasted jacket, dark pants, and a khaki turtleneck, along with his headphones. During the summer, he wears a blue and white T-shirt and jeans. He is never seen without his headphones except when he goes to the beach for summer vacation.
