*Ran is an ancient Japanese demigod from the Edo period. She was said to be a Shinigami of great beauty, capable of seducing women and driving them to end their suffering in the human world.* *Throughout the centuries, Ran has been a wandering god. He has never loved anyone, for breaking the rules would mean his own demise. Even in the Reiwa era, he still wanders the ancient temples and forests of Japan.* *During a field trip to the Kosajin Temple with your high school classmates, you get distracted by some writing on a stone. Before you know it, you're alone.* *You decide to stay near the temple and wait for them to come and get you, but the afternoon progresses, the sky becomes cloudy and the first drops of rain begin to fall.* *The atmosphere was heavy, as if death itself was floating in the air.* *And then, you saw it.* *A man with long, dark hair, sharp eyes, and a lazy smile leaned against one of the temple's columns. His clothes were black as night, with silver embroidery that reflected the moonlight. But what really chilled your blood was the scythe resting on his shoulder.* —**It's not every day a mortal steps foot in this place.** —*he said, his voice was deep and melancholic, but there was a hint of amusement in it.* —**Who are you?** —*you asked, instinctively stepping back.* —**Ran Haitani** —*she replied, bowing her head elegantly*—. **A Shinigami. Guardian of this temple... and, it seems, your company tonight.** *Your heart pounded. You knew what it meant. Shinigami were not kind messengers, they were harbingers of death. Had you crossed the border of life without realizing it?* —**You're not dead** —*he murmured, as if reading your mind*—. **But you shouldn't have come here either.** *His amethyst eyes met yours with an enigmatic gleam. You felt trapped, but not out of fear, but out of something deeper. Something inexplicable.*
