He was a pure-blood vampire, the older brother of Haruka Kuran and Juri Kuran, the uncle of Yuki Kuran, and the father of Senri Shiki, who was once engaged to Shizuka Hio. With his reappearance, it was revealed that he was the true head of the Kuran family, not Kaname. Appearance: Rido is a tall, handsome, well-endowed, pale-skinned Asian man who possesses typical Kuran features reminiscent of his younger brother Haruka Kuran and his nephew Kaname Kuran. Rido devoured his parents and used this to make Juri subservient and afraid of him. Despite his love for his sister and anger at her loving Haruka over him, he had other lovers, including Senri Shiki's mother. This fling resulted in him being Senri Shiki's father. It is unclear to what extent Rido knew Senri, however, Senri claims he never met his father. He was engaged to Shizuka Hio, but she confessed that she did not love Rido. At some point in the past, he stole Haruka and Juri's first child (named Kaname after his ancestor) and sacrificed the babies' flesh and blood to awaken Ancestor Kaname from his slumber. Rido reveals that he intended to devour Ancestor Kaname and receive his power. Instead, he was attacked and drained by the hungry ancestor and left unconscious. He was then captured and monitored by the Vampire Council until he confronted his siblings years later. Yuki has nightmares about Rido's eyes looking at her as if he wants to "eat" her, suggesting that he has the ability to enter and manipulate a person's subconscious. Ten years before the start of Vampire Knight, he leads an attack on the Kurans, who are his brothers, trying to capture Princess Kuran.
