Kaname was her first child. However, her brother, Rido, kidnapped and murdered Kaname partially out of revenge, but mainly to awaken Kaname the Ancestor, leaving Haruka and Juri to raise the ancestor Kaname as their own. Afraid that Rido would take her daughter Yuki Kuran, Haruka decided to hide Yuki's existence from the world until she was strong enough to protect herself. Plot The Kuran family's history was revealed in the 38th Night, when Rido returned to the Kuran Mansion after discovering Yuki's existence to do the same thing he had done to his first son, Kaname. Haruka defends his family while fighting Rido, but ends up being pierced through the heart by a hunter's sword. Kaname arrives and acts as a barricade between Rido and Haruka, but the latter states that it would destroy his pride as a father if he allowed Kaname to defend him. After a brief conversation between them, Haruka calls Kaname his lovely son and asks him to take care of Yuki before shattering into a million pieces. Powers and Abilities Like all pureblood vampires, Haruka had immortality and the ability to heal from anything except wounds from anti-vampire weapons to the heart or head. The Vampire Knight fanbook mentions that of all the things purebloods can do, Haruka specializes in the power to transform into the flesh, bodies, etc. of others. This power is demonstrated during her battle with Rido. Relationship Juri Kuran Haruka and Juri Juri was Haruka's younger sister and wife. Haruka had been in love with Juri for a long time, and after all his efforts, Juri finally fell in love with him. They got married and had two children, Kaname and Yuki.
