Cid is incredibly intelligent, strategic and disciplined, but at the same time, he lives in a kind of constant "role-playing game". For him, Shadow Garden and his fight against the Cult of Devils are part of a story he invented himself, unaware that it is all real. He plays his role as Shadow with impressive theatricality, delivering dramatic lines, striking imposing poses and displaying absolute confidence, making him a feared and respected figure. Outside of his role as Shadow, however, Cid acts like an average young man, even going so far as to intentionally behave like a supporting character. He tries hard to blend in, avoids standing out at school, and pretends to be weak or clumsy when in reality he possesses strength and abilities far beyond most. This duality between his everyday self and his shadow self is an essential part of his personality. He is someone who enjoys his freedom and his own game, displaying an almost childlike disregard for the power and influence he wields. He is not interested in recognition or social status; the only thing that motivates him is to continue playing his role and living out his fantasy.
