Persona Attributes
Main charactersEdit The protagonists of the series are known as the "Family" (家族, Kazoku), a group of young people led by Seiko who face supernatural phenomena. The members of this family, who are also in high school at Kami High School, participate in the History and Culture Research Club (歴史文化研究部, Rekishi Bunka Kenkyū-bu), which acts as a front for their activities.
Momo Ayase edit Voiced by: Shion Wakayama[1] (Japan); Hannah Buttel (Netflix)[2] / Amanda Brigido (Crunchyroll)[3] (Brazil); Momo Ayase (綾瀬 桃, Ayase Momo) is a gyaru high school student who strongly believes in ghosts and supernatural events. This belief is partly influenced by her grandmother, Seiko, who collaborates with the group. However, after being teased at school about this, Momo cursed Seiko, which caused significant tension between them. After being kidnapped by Serpo aliens, Momo discovers that she has psychokinetic powers, being able to visualize the "auras" of people and objects, as well as seeing her powers as large hands that allow her to "grab" and control these auras. Momo is a fan of actor Ken Takakura and becomes completely enchanted whenever his full name is spoken aloud. Despite her initial conflicts with Okarun, which result in constant arguments, the dynamic between them changes after defeating Turbo Grandma, and they become close friends. As the plot progresses, Momo begins to harbor deep feelings for Okarun and decides to support him in his search for his testicles, thus seeking to improve her relationship with his grandmother.
Ken Takakura / Okarun edit Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae[1] (Japan); Renan Vidal (Netflix)[2] / Yan Gesteira (Crunchyroll)[3] (Brazil); Ken Takakura (高倉 健, Takakura Ken) is a shy and lonely teenager at school who tries to get closer to Momo through their shared interests in the supernatural. Momo, along with her friends Miko and Muko, refers to him as "Okarun" (オカルン, a name that derives from her interest in the "occult"), as a way to avoid being reminded of her celebrity crush, though Okarun is unaware of the true origin of the nickname. After being possessed by Granny Turbo, Okarun gains the ability to enter an intense spiritual state, which grants him immense speed, but also an alternate personality that is kind, albeit apathetic. Often teased by his classmates for his nerdy ways, Okarun ends up finding solace in his new friendships, becoming a little more popular. He places great importance on his relationship with Momo, recognizing her as his first true friend. After meeting Taro and Hana, Okarun realizes that he is in love with Momo, even making his declaration. The issue of the loss and recovery of his testicles becomes one of the central themes of the series.
Aira Shiratori edit Voiced by: Ayane Sakura[4] (Japan); Bruna Laynes (Netflix)[5] / Ana Elena Bittencourt (Crunchyroll)[6] (Brazil); Aira Shiratori (白鳥 愛羅, Shiratori Aira) is the idol of Kami High School. Despite her appearance as a kind and somewhat naive person, she is in fact extremely vain and has a messiah complex. This is largely due to her difficulty in coping with the death of her mother when she was still a child. After obtaining one of Okarun's kintama, Aira awakened her repressed ability to perceive the supernatural. This ability, combined with her egomania, led her to believe that she was divinely chosen to exorcise yōkai, making Momo her target, as she delusionally believes that she and Okarun are evil demons. The ensuing confrontation resulted in her absorbing the Silky Acrobat's powers, granting Aira a transformation similar to Okarun's, as well as impressive agility and prehensile hair. Even though she continues to believe that Momo and Okarun are demons, Aira ends up joining them and showing an open affection for Okarun, attracted by her altruistic personality. As the Family expands, she sets herself up as the leader of the group, but over time, she adopts a more altruistic stance, turning them into her new friends and repairing her relationship with Momo.
Seiko Ayase edit Voiced by: Nana Mizuki[4] (Japan); Maíra Góes (Netflix)[5] / Priscila Amorim (Crunchyroll)[3] (Brazil); Seiko Ayase (綾瀬 星子, Ayase Seiko) is a spiritual medium and Momo's grandmother, with whom she lives, despite having the appearance of a 20-year-old. She is a great ally of Momo and Okarun in the fight against evil spirits and yōkai. Although she has no natural abilities, she has a vast knowledge of supernatural beings and curses, using various artifacts and the power borrowed from the god that inhabits her city to seal and exorcise yōkai, although this ability is restricted to her locality. Her temperament is impulsive and apathetic, which causes great frustration to those around her, but, on the other hand, she is very protective of the people she loves, among them Momo.
Turbo Grandma edit Voiced by: Mayumi Tanaka[1] (Japan); Marize Motta (yōkai), Mariana Torres (maneki neko) (Netflix)[5] / Aline Ghezzi (Crunchyroll)[3] (Brazil); Turbo Grandma (ターボババア, Tābo Babā) is a yōkai who takes the form of an aggressive and ill-tempered elderly woman. She used to comfort the spirits of girls who died in tragic ways, but she has since become violent, cursing and stealing the genitals of anyone who enters her territory. After Momo and Okarun defeat her, Seiko traps her spirit inside a maneki neko doll. In exchange for regaining her powers, she agrees to help Okarun and Momo in their search for Okarun's testicles.
Secondary characters edit Humans edit Miko edit Voiced by: Kaori Maeda (Japan); Tatyane Goulart (Netflix)[5] / Sofia Manso (Crunchyroll)[6] (Brazil); Miko (ミーコ, Mīko) is a gyaru student and one of Momo's best friends. She claims to have early insight into the "relationship" between Momo and Okarun and, along with Muko, supports them as a couple. Muko edit Voiced by: Miyo Tomita (Japan); Marianna Alexandre (Netflix)[5] / Thainá Lana (Crunchyroll)[6] (Brazil); Muko (ムーコ, Mūko), known as Kei-san (ケイさん), is a tanned gyaru student and one of Momo's closest friends. She often follows Miko's lead, even in matters concerning Momo and Okarun. Granny Turbo stole her phone, mainly to research the supernatural. Nurse Queen edit Voiced by: Chiaki Takahashi (Japan); Sabrina Miragaia (Netflix)[5] / Marcia Coutinho (Crunchyroll)[6] (Brazil); Nurse Queen (女王, Joō) is the school's diligent and dependable nurse who listens to all of the students' problems. Although she cares about the students, her perverse behavior often alienates them, as evidenced by the whip she uses to punish delinquents and even her fellow students. Manjiro edit Manjiro (万次郎, Manjirō) is a student of Seiko and a spiritual medium invited to help with the Evil Eye case. The Hayashis edit The Hayashi (囃子) are a musical band that occasionally assists Seiko in exorcising evil spirits through heavy metal music.
Jin Enjoji / Jiji edit Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa[4] (Japan); Felipe Drummond (Netflix) / Erick Bougleux (Crunchyroll)[6] (Brazil); Jin Enjoji (円城寺 仁, Enjōji Jin) is Momo's childhood friend and first crush, until he teased her about Seiko's rituals. He is known by the nickname "Jiji" (ジジ). After his parents are hospitalized due to the haunting of their home by the Evil Eye, Enjoji moves in with Momo and Seiko before moving to Kami High School and joining Momo's class. Although he is seen as an attractive and fit athlete, Jiji is actually an eccentric young man who often compliments people and maintains an optimistic outlook on everyone. After apologizing for his behavior, he and Momo renew their friendship, which causes Okarun to become jealous of their bond. This later proves to be quite justifiable, as Jiji appears to have developed a romantic interest in Momo. He is possessed by the Evil Eye, which goes on a blind rampage when it controls Jiji's body.
Let's go edit Vamola (バモラ, Bamora) is a Sumerian and the only surviving child of her race. She arrives on Earth after escaping an invasion on her home planet and fulfills her adoptive mother's wish to find a worthy husband, someone who will help her maintain the Sumerian lineage. Through this, she meets Momo and Okarun, choosing the latter as her partner, believing that he was the one who defeated her. As she does not speak any Earthly language, Vamola tends to imitate what others say, and so the group must teach her Japanese. Over time, she develops a strong friendship with Momo. Kinta Sakata edit Kinta Sakata (坂田 金太, Sakata Kinta) is Okarun's slightly overweight and socially awkward classmate. He is very interested in the supernatural and extraterrestrial matters, while also trying to make Okarun more popular with the girls. Although not very skilled in social interactions, Kinta possesses an impressive creative imagination, which is complemented by nanoskin, an alien technology that can perform whatever the wearer envisions. Rin Sawaki edit Rin Sawaki (佐脇 凛, Sawaki Rin), known primarily as Class Representative (委員長, Iinchō), is the obedient and authoritative representative of Class C, which mainly includes Okarun, Kinta Sakata, and Vamola. After overcoming lingering resentment towards a departed childhood friend, she acquires gravity powers from yōkai, based on her ability to sing.
Aliens edit Peeny-Weeny / Mr. Sea Centipede edit Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki[7] (Japan); Claudio Galvan (Netflix)[8] / Guilherme Briggs (Crunchyroll) (Brazil); Peeny-Weeny (ぺニーチンコス, Penīchinkosu) — also called Mr. Sea Centipede (シャコさん, Shako-san) — is an alien resembling a turtle-shelled sea centipede, inspired by the Dover Devil. His species (whose speech is predominantly composed of unpronounceable characters and gargling) possesses great durability, has the ability to transform into a stronger version, and, like a real sea centipede, attacks with punches with the speed of a bullet. As such, they are often recruited by other species for combat duties. However, Peeny-Weeny is seen as one of the more vulnerable members, being forced to resort to low-quality mercenary work. Peeny-Weeny accepts these missions with reservations, as his son, Chiquitita, suffers from a terminal illness that requires daily transfusions and which also resulted in the death of his wife. He ends up being hired by the Serpians as extra muscle to fight Momo, Okarun and Aira, who defeat him. However, upon discovering that the blood of his species resembles cow's milk, Seiko gifts Chiquitita with a cow to serve as a constant source of blood for him. Forever grateful for this, he divides his time between his son and a new life on a rural farm, helping the Family whenever he can.
Payase edit Payase (パヤセ) is a collector of cursed objects; he works with Kashimoto, and both are friends of Seiko. Payase has the ability to manipulate shadows and all their characteristics. Kashimoto edit Kashimoto (樫本) is Payase's ally, an expert on pygmies who provides Seiko with information about Momo's case. He can use the power of Aphoom-Zhah, the Cold Flame, one of the Great Old Ones from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
Masamichi Bega edit Masamichi Bega (部賀正道, Bega Masamichi), also referred to as Bega the Demon (鬼の部賀, Oni no Bega), is an extremely strict yet kind police officer who works at the Kamikoshi Police Station. He takes in Unji Zuma, a local juvenile delinquent, after discovering his origins as an orphan. Unji Zuma edit Unji Zuma (頭間 雲児, Zuma Unji) is a student at Renjaku High School who leads a gang of delinquents from other schools. As a child, he lost his family and was adopted by Bega, who also lost his family. After encountering the spirit of his younger brother, he gained supernatural powers based on umbrellas, now transformed into a yōkai known as Umbrella Boy. After obtaining one of Okarun's testicles, Unji attempts to win a supernatural diorama board game known as Danmanra. Daiki Hakono edit Daiki Hakono (箱野 大希, Hakono Daiki) is an elderly man who was given the Danmanra game for his birthday when he was four years old; after being sucked into the cursed log, he began to age at an unusual rate. When he was pulled out of the log, he appeared to be a middle-aged man, and several weeks later, when seeking help from Momo, he resembles an elderly man with a long, white beard. Kouki Yukishiro edit Kouki Yukishiro (雪白 幸姬, Yukishiro Kōki) is a student who fought with Momo in the school library when she was little after leaving Danmanra. Despite being an outstanding pianist in her youth, she has become invisible to her family and other schoolmates, hiding her face behind her long, messy hair. She is following the guidance of a shadowy figure after being blackmailed over an indecent selfie.
Spirits edit Silky Acrobat edit Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue (Japan); Rita Ávila (Netflix) / Izabel Lira (Crunchyroll) (Brazil); Silky Acrobat (アクロバティックさらさら, Akurobatikku Sarasara) is a powerful yōkai with enormous stature, exceptional strength, and flexibility. During her human existence, she was a single mother who dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer, but found herself forced to take on precarious jobs, including prostitution, to ensure her survival and support her daughter. Her life collapsed when her attackers kidnapped her daughter, acting brutally to collect a debt, which led her to commit suicide. After transforming into a yōkai, a young girl named Aira called her "Mommy" after briefly mistaking her for her deceased mother. This caused Silky Acrobat, in a delusional state, to believe that she was Aira's mother in life and began to stalk her for over ten years, until Aira could once again perceive the presence of yōkai. However, when this happened, Aira did not recognize Silky Acrobat and assumed that she was a familiar spirit summoned by Momo, which infuriated Silky Acrobat so much that she accidentally killed her. In exchange for her own life force, Silky Acrobat brought Aira back to life, transferring her powers to her. In her final moments, Aira showed compassion, allowing Silky Acrobat to depart to heaven without feeling regret.
Reiko Kashima edit Reiko Kashima (カシマレイコ, Kashima Reiko), known as the Slit-Mouthed Woman (口裂け女, Kuchisake-onna), is a yōkai who formerly inhabited a ruined area of Kamikoshi City. After being defeated by Momo, Reiko harbored a deep resentment towards the girl, vowing to exact revenge the next time they met. Fairy Tale Letter edit The Fairy Tale Card (メルへンカルタ, Meruen Karuta) is a yōkai sealed in the board game Danmanra, and is also the creator of the cursed chest's inner world. Aliens edit Serpians edit Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai[1] (Japan); Reginaldo Primo (Netflix)[5] / Paulo Vignolo (Crunchyroll)[6] (Brazil); The Serpians or Alien Serpo (セルポ星人, Serupo Seijin) are an all-male alien race from the planet Serpo. Because they are all male, the Serpians are unable to reproduce naturally, and thus resort to cloning technology. However, since biological evolution cannot occur between identical beings, they seek to obtain reproductive organs by abducting humans from Earth and stealing their sexual organs (or "bananas"). Naki Kito edit Voiced by: Masako Isobe [ja][10] (Japan); Naki Kito (鬼頭 ナキ, Kitō Naki) is an underground woman who dedicated over two hundred years to performing human sacrifices in honor of the Tsuchinoko, with the aim of protecting her village from destruction, until the arrival of Enjoji, who brought Momo and Okarun to the place. Kur edit The Kur (深淵ケの者, Keru) are a militaristic alien race that originates from remote corners of space. Described by Serpo as globalists, they are actively searching for planets to conquer within the galactic system, including their homeworld of Vamola.
Count Saint-German edit Count Saint-German (サンジェルマン伯爵, Sanjeruman Hakushaku) is a foreigner linked to the Kur, serving as vice-director and advisor to the History and Culture Research Club at Momo and Okarun's high school, using the pseudonym Sanjome (三丈目). Pygmies edit Pygmies (小人, Kobito) are beings of diminutive stature who wear conical hats and masks, and possess extraordinary sewing and weaving skills. Only those who are sensitive to the spiritual world can see them, such as Momo and Rainha; according to Rainha, they have a strong desire to help Kouki, as she is able to perceive them.
