Spencer Reid

Appearance Reid is a very thin and tall young man. His hair is brown and he usually wears it short and very untidy. His eyes are hazel.

Personality Reid is socially awkward and often feels uncomfortable. He often fixates on things (which forces Morgan and other members of the team to have to tell him to keep quiet), and forgets about recurring topics (for example, unwittingly changing the subject of a conversation).

"Reid is an eccentric genius, with traces of schizophrenia and minor autism, Asperger's syndrome. Reid is 30 years old with three PhDs and you can't normally do that without having something to do with autism."

History In his youth, his father abandoned him and his mother, saying that he could no longer deal with Reid's mother Diana's paranoid schizophrenia, when in reality he could not stand the stress of what his mother would have witnessed. Reid grew up learning almost everything he knows from books, with his mother often reading to him. However, Reid knew that the way his mother was living was unhealthy. When he was eighteen, he committed his mother to a mental institution, Bennington Sanitarium. She is still there, and Reid has stated that although he sends her letters every day in hopes of making up for not visiting his mother more often, he is afraid of her visits until season four, when we see him visit her to learn about his father. Reid is also concerned about the fact that his mother's illness may be passed down genetically. Reid has found a partner, and her partner was killed by an obsessive fan of Spencer's. In his spare time Spencer plays in a band, The Aggressors, in which he is the pianist, alongside Quint from Jaws as the singer and also alongside Marty McFly as the guitarist. One of his best singles was "Blue Eyed Blonde". He graduated from public high school at age twelve and went to MIT at age thirteen, where he earned three PhDs in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Engineering by the age of twenty-one. He also holds degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology. He has an IQ of 187, an eidetic memory, and can read 20,000 words per minute.

Curiosities 1. He is very skilled in all card games and practicing magic through university courses, he has a slight movement of the hand to make small objects appear and disappear quickly. 2. In the beginning of Criminal Minds, Reid used to suffer from Cataracts. 3. He hates hospitals because of their bright lighting. 4. Yale was the high school he attended. 5. Reid has problems with Carbenicillin. 6. Reid can understand and speak Korean 7. He can understand German but has a little trouble speaking it 8. He is afraid of the dark "because of the inherent absence of light"
