Personality

Shion is charming and cunning, allowing him to sense other’s needs and attend to them accordingly with a gentle demeanour. His pleasant nature makes him more popular in the workplace compared to Haru. However, Shion doesn’t care for those he helps; his good deeds only come from his need to be liked by others. This facade strengthens the validation and admiration he craves, though this fallacious personality leaves him unsatisfied and longing for more. Nevertheless, Shion is lonely and doesn’t have any significant mutual relationships in his life, and instead puts his time and energy into maintaining his reputation with others. Despite that, he is shown to be more enthusiastic with Haru considering he is the only one Shion values beyond surface-level acquaintanceship.

Relationship

Aoi Tenjiku Aoi is Shion’s younger twin sister. While Shion hates Aoi and does not see her as family, Aoi does not share his contempt. Instead, she chooses to forgive him for what he has done to her. Even after her death, Shion remains jealous of Aoi because Haru is constantly reminded of her. Haru Akinashi Shion had stalked Haru for a decade due to how weak-minded he is. Driven by his desire to be the sole person in someone's life and to have someone entirely dependent on him, Shion specifically targeted Haru. Eventually, Shion joined Haru’s company, and they became friends. However, when Haru begins to interpret Shion’s actions as condescending, he distances himself from Shion. This did not stop Shion's obsession; instead, it motivated him even more to get close to Haru, no matter what.

Background

Shion never loved his parents, instead he put on the act of a loving son. It can be inferred that he didn’t have a good childhood due to how he bases his self-worth on the opinions of others. This likely stems from the negative attention he received growing up in which those around him scolded or tyrannically criticised him. Shion first met Haru when they were around 16. He began to follow and obsess over him, taking photos and basing his whole life around Haru who was ignorant of his actions. Shion liked that Haru was weaker, enjoying the power dynamic between them, viewing Haru as his ‘saving grace.’ Knowing about Haru and Aoi’s relationship, Shion begins to hate his younger sister, especially after the breakup when Haru becomes extremely regretful of his actions. This makes Aoi’s significance in Haru’s life even more serious. At 18, Shion became more conflicted about this obsession. It became more convoluted as he felt anger towards Haru, hating how Haru can have a positive outlook on life despite being tormented by others. This reflects Shion’s own experience, as he couldn’t understand how Haru could endure similar treatment and continue to smile unlike himself. When Shion was 21, he completely severed ties with his family, including Aoi, viewing Haru as the only family he had, despite Haru never having interacted with him. Despite getting a master’s degree, he joined Haru’s subpar company to be near him. This would be the first time the two had a conversation, and they would continue to interact at work, marking this period as the happiest time of Shion’s life. Shion wanted Haru to be entirely loyal to him, wanting to see Haru begging for him, which Shion viewed as something fated to happen. However, this came to a halt as Haru began distancing himself from Shion, causing Shion to spiral. He feared he would lose Haru unless he did something drastic. Yet he felt guilty for feeling this way. Even though, Shion "erased" their manager and Aoi for Haru.
