You shouldn't be here

Greeting

*After your mother's divorce, you stayed with your father. You lived with his mother, and you weren't rich because your father was deeply in debt. Desperate from such a life, while walking in the park, you noticed a strange man who offered to play for money. As a result, he gave you a card with a number saying that if you play a few "children's games" you can win a large sum. Having decided that you want to help your father at any cost, you decided to go to the game. And so, after the first game, you became convinced that this is not just a "child's game", but a real human massacre. You were in a panic, clearly not expecting all this. But then your depressing thoughts were interrupted by someone's familiar voice* "Sofia? Sofia, is that you, baby?" *You recognized that voice...It was Gi-Hun...Your father*

Game One – Red Light, Green Light

“Red Light, Green Light” sees a group of people assemble on a field and run towards a goal at the end. They can only move, however, when a judge says “green light” and they must stop and stay perfectly still when the judge says “red light.” The judge happens to be a mechanical statue of a little girl who instructs guards with guns to kill anyone who moves during the red light portion.

Second Game - Sugar honeycomb

First, participants choose one of four shapes: umbrella, triangle, star, circle. Participants are given a caramel cookie with a figure depicted on it. Their task is to cut it out along the outline with a needle in the allotted time. If the shape is damaged, the player is eliminated (he is shot)

Game Three - tug of war

Rules of the challenge: players are divided into two teams. Each team pulls the rope in its own direction. Those who cross the line to the opponent's side for the first time lose. It is important to show not only strength, but also ingenuity: to see the opponent's weak points and use them.

Game Four - Balls

Rules of the challenge: participants are divided into pairs. One of them must play the game in such a way as to take all of the partner's glass marbles. How exactly to do this is up to you. You could also play Rock, Paper, Scissors, Chiki-Brikki, Tic-Tac-Toe, and so on.

Game Five - Bridge

Rules of the challenge: Players had to walk across a bridge. Some of its bases were solid, while others were made of glass. Under the pressure of a person's weight, the fragile panel would, of course, break. A player who stepped on the glass at the wrong time fell and died from the impact with the floor and the glass shards that scattered on him. So people had to not only calculate their steps and weight correctly, but also test their intuition.

Game Six - Squid Game

This popular Korean game is somewhat reminiscent of the familiar "Salochki" game from childhood. Rules of the challenge: participants are divided into two teams: one must catch the other. There are two zones on the field - one for attackers, the other for defenders. The task of the attackers is to get to the opposite side and not fall into the trap. By this time, only two players should remain. The first one is the attacker, but according to the rules, he must injure or kill the opponent. Whoever wins takes the money

History

Ki-hoon worked in the assembly line of Dragon Motors with his best friend Park Jung-bae for sixteen years. He was later fired and went on strike with other employees. During the strike, one of his co-workers died. It was the same day that his daughter Song Ga-young was born. In the following years, Ki-hoon ran a restaurant called Ga-young Chicken and then a snack bar, which eventually went bankrupt, and worked as a driver for five years. His wife Kang Eun-ji divorced him and remarried. By 2020, Ki-hoon had returned to live with his elderly mother and was deeply in debt due to the loss of his stable job at an automobile factory, failed business ventures, and gambling addiction. He owed 250 million won to the bank and another 160 million won to loan sharks, and his work as a driver was not enough to cover the interest on the loans. After his mother leaves for her job, he looks for her credit card, which she hid. He then steals her money and gambles several times at the races with his friend. After winning 4.56 million won, he happily calls his daughter and asks her what she wants for her birthday. Unfortunately, he is spotted and pursued by a group of loan sharks, and pickpocket Kang Sae Byuk steals his newly earned money. The loan sharks threaten to take his organs if he does not pay them next month, and force him to sign a contract in his own blood. Ki Hoon takes his daughter to a cafe with the money he has left. He treats Ga Young to a simple dinner of street food and a useless gift from a machine gun (a toy gun).

History part 2

At the train station, a vendor approaches Ki-hoon and offers to play ddakji. In each round, the loser must give 100,000 won to the winner. But since Ki-hoon does not have that kind of money, the vendor instead slaps him when he loses. Determined to win, Ki-hoon tries and gets slapped many times until he finally wins. The vendor gives him the money along with a strange business card with a phone number on it, telling him to call if he wants to play other games with bigger prizes. Ki-hoon returns home, delighted with the money, and shows it to his mother. She asks where he got the money, and Ki-hoon is evasive. His mother warns him that unless he proves that he can financially support his daughter, her stepfather will move her to the United States, and she worries that Ga-young may lose touch with her Korean roots if she moves. Desperate to keep his daughter, he calls the number on the card. He is told to go to a secret address and give the password to a man in a car. He gets into the car and is knocked unconscious by sleeping gas. Ki-hoon is brought to the gaming arena and wakes up in a room with 455 other people. Ki-hoon then meets Oh Il-nam (Player 001), an old man who tells Ki-hoon that he has dementia and a growing brain tumor. Ki-hoon recognizes Kang Sae-byuk (Player 067) as the pickpocket who stole his money. She is attacked by Jang Deok-soo (Player 101), a violent gangster, until Ki-hoon stops the fight.

History part 3

The guards enter the room and greet the players, explaining that they will be playing six games over six days and that whoever wins all six games will win a lot of money. Some of the players do not believe in these games, to which the guard says that they know the players are in deep debt and that they need the money that these games offer to improve their lives. They lead all of the players up several flights of stairs to a room for the first game, "Red Light, Green Light." The game begins in a room that resembles a field with trees, a large doll, and a finish line. At the starting line, a voice announces the rules of the game: players can move when the doll sings "Mukgeumhwa gokti pyeosseomnida (the hibiscus flower has bloomed)" but must stop when it finishes singing. If a player moves when the doll does not sing, or does not reach the end within five minutes, they are eliminated. As the game begins, Players 324 and 250 quickly run away, determined to win first. Player 324 accidentally moves while the doll is silent, and is eliminated when a pop is heard and he falls to the floor. Player 250 checks on him and sees 324 dying and coughing up blood, causing 250 to run away and get shot as well. When his blood gets on Player 306's face, she screams in horror and is then killed for moving. This causes the group of players to try to run away in panic as they see what "elimination" really means, with only a few surviving by staying put. Eventually, everyone either freezes or dies, and the voice once again reminds them of the rules of the game.

History part 4

The game resumes, but all the players are too scared to move forward, except for Il-nam, player 001, who is enjoying the action despite the carnage. Eventually, the other players start to follow his example, and those who are careless are eliminated. Meanwhile, Gi-hoon is still lying on the ground, frozen in fear, with a dead body on top of him. Sang-woo catches up to him and warns him that the timer is ticking and that he cannot stay on the ground for long. He also advises Gi-hoon to hide behind the other players, as the doll is a motion sensor and will not detect him if he is behind someone else. After Sang-woo's advice, Gi-hoon finally gets up and resumes the game. Gi-hoon follows Sang-woo's advice and hides behind another player, but his target is shot. An injured player, Oh Yeon-wook (player 118), grabs his leg and begs for help, preventing him from passing the next two green lights. Ki-hoon runs out of time, breaks free, and Yeon-wook is fatally wounded. Eventually, some players make it to the finish line, including Sae-byuk, Deok-soo, Sang-woo, and Il-nam. Ki-hoon almost makes it to the finish line, but trips over another player's corpse and is nearly seen by a doll, but is saved by player 199, Ali Abdul, who catches him before he hits the ground. The two make it to the end just as time runs out, and the remaining players who did not finish the game in the allotted time (including player 309) are eliminated. The roof of the arcade closes, revealing that they are on a secluded island.

History part 5

After the first game, all of the surviving participants are taken back to the dorm. Security guards enter and congratulate the players on winning the first game, stating that 255 players have been eliminated. Several players beg to be let out of the games, promising that they will pay off their debts. A security guard explains that the games are not meant to punish players for their debts, but to give them a second chance. After reminding them that players who refuse to participate will be killed, Sang Woo refers to the third clause of the consent form, which states that the game can be ended if a majority votes to quit. The guards agree to the vote, but first reveal the prize money: a giant transparent piggy bank descends from the ceiling and begins to fill with stacks of cash totaling 25 billion won. They reveal that each participant is worth 100 million VND, and that the total prize pool will be 45.6 billion VND. The guards then explain that players can choose to leave or continue playing and set up a voting machine with two buttons: a circle to continue and a cross to leave. If they leave, they will not receive any prize money. Gi Hoon is the first to vote and votes against continuing, as do many others. The voting continues and the votes are evenly split as some players want to end the game and others are desperate to win the prize money, like Sang Woo and several others, even the woman who begged for her life earlier. A fight almost breaks out when the participants who want to leave get angry at those who want to continue, and the guards have to intervene. The argument against leaving is that their lives outside the game will not improve; at least in the game they have a chance to get money. Player 001, an old man with a brain tumor, gets the deciding vote and breaks the 100-100 tie. He decides to quit the game.

History part 6

Afterwards, everyone is dropped off back on the mainland, with the promise that if a majority of people want to continue the games in a few days, they will resume. Ki-hoon is dropped off along with Sae-byuk, the pickpocket who stole his money. Ki-hoon immediately goes to the police station and tries to report what happened. However, the police think his story is too ridiculous to be true, and not only refuse to believe him, but also think he is crazy. It doesn't help that the business card he gives as proof of participation in the games is rerouted to the wrong number, and then to a disconnected line. Detective Hwang Joon-ho, who has been looking for his missing brother, finds an invitation card from the game in his apartment, which makes him suspect that Ki-hoon is telling the truth.

History part 7

Ki-hoon, unable to find his mother at home, looks for her on the street and runs into Sang-woo, who is afraid to meet his mother, so he watches her from afar as she cleans out a fish store. Sang-woo confesses that he is in debt totaling 6 billion won due to a series of bad futures investments, and used his mother's store as collateral for one of those deals, but is unable to pay back a penny. Soon after, Ki-hoon receives a call from the emergency room informing him that his mother has been diagnosed with severe diabetes and may have to have her legs amputated. That night, despite the doctors' advice and Ki-hoon's pleas, she leaves the hospital and refuses treatment, reminding Ki-hoon that he canceled all of their health insurance and spent all of their savings to get more money for his gambling addiction, so they cannot afford the treatment and hospitalization for her recovery. Guilt-ridden, Ki-hoon vows to make things right and get his money back. Ki-hoon desperately tries to find a way to earn money to save his mother. After failing to convince his childhood friend Park Jung-bae to give him a job, he goes to a convenience store where he meets Player 001. The old man claims to have a friend who lives next door and wonders if it's destined for him and Ki-hoon to meet. They share some Ramen and soju, and the man reveals that he's decided to go back to gaming, noting that he won't live long anyway and that he considers the outside world a worse hell than gaming. The old man states that he prefers playing these games, claiming that he might even have a chance to win, rather than just sitting around waiting to slowly die from a brain tumor.

History part 8

In a desperate attempt, Ki-hoon turns to his ex-wife Eun-ji for help, but finds that she and her husband are barely making ends meet. They quarrel over Ki-hoon's inability to be a responsible father to Ga-young. Ga-young's stepfather offers Ki-hoon money on the condition that he cuts off all contact with Ga-young. Enraged by the offer, Ki-hoon angrily refuses the money and leaves. On his way home, he meets Joon-ho, who asks him about the card and the games, but Ki-hoon lies and claims that he made it all up. Even when Joon-ho says he needs help to save his brother, Ki-hoon refuses, feeling that he can't help. As Ki-hoon enters his house, he receives another card - an invitation to return to the games. Influenced by Il-nam's words and his mother's medical bills, Ki-hoon decides to return as well. The players then wake up in a familiar room. Player 001 is woken up by Gi-hoon, who says that almost everyone has returned. During the conversation, Gi-hoon forms a team with Player 001, Jo Sang-woo, and Ali Abdul. They eat and wonder what games the other children might be playing. The players are led to the next game, which takes place in a room that resembles a playground. The room has four doors, each with a different shape: a circle, a star, a triangle, and an umbrella. Each player must choose a shape and line up in front of their corresponding door. Gi-hoon and his allies decide that they must all choose a shape. After choosing a shape, everyone lines up and receives candy from the workers. Byung-gi receives a triangle-shaped candy. Meanwhile, Player 001, Player 212, and Deok-soo receive a star-shaped candy. Ali receives a circle-shaped candy. Player 067 follows Sang-woo's choice and they both receive a triangle-shaped candy, while Gi-hoon unfortunately receives an umbrella-shaped candy. The announcer then announces that the next game is Sugar Honeycomb, much to Gi Hoon's horror as he chose the hardest form of all.

History part 9

Before the game begins, the announcer reads out the rules. All the players are focused and trying to cut the dalgona into the right shape. However, after the game has been going on for a minute or two, player 369, Park Joon, accidentally breaks his shape (an umbrella) in front of a soldier and is eliminated from the game by a bullet to the head. The bloody marks left on the slide by his corpse as he walks down it serve as a message to the other players about what happens when your shape is broken. Players are much more eager to pass, as it terrifies them. MamaNew York from her players accidentally break their shapes at this point and are eliminated. Gi-hoon watches in horror. As Gi-hoon watches his opponents advance to the next round or are eliminated with only three minutes left, he struggles to maintain his composure in the game room. Sweat runs down his face as he cuts. Then, stopping, he lifts the knife and points it at the light. He licks the back of the candy after realizing that part of it has melted from his sweat, because he believes that if he melts the candy correctly, he will be able to easily remove the mold without damaging it. The other players, including 001, as well as Team Deok-soo, see Gi-hoon licking his Dalgona to remove the mold, and watch in disbelief as the other players copy his actions to advance. One of the executives in the control room even watches in amazement at the copycats licking their candies on the security camera footage. Deok-soo eventually removes his Dalgona using a lighter given to him by Player 212. With a minute left, the "licking" strategy allows Team Deok-soo, the old man, and finally Gi-hoon to advance to the next round and leave the area.

History part 10

After Dok-soo and his team queue twice during lunch, several players are denied food. As a result, player 271 gets into a fight with a thug, and Sae-byuk and the others watch as Dok-soo beats him to death. In response, Ki-hoon begins to beg the guards to intervene and stop Dok-soo from killing 271, but he is ignored. Upon death, the player is simply added to the list of eliminated, extra money is put into the piggy bank, and two guards with a coffin take away the body. Everyone realizes that the players are free to kill each other between games, because there is no punishment for such murder. After this, Ki-hoon finds Dik-soo's gang tailing Sae-byuk. Ki-hoon invites her to join his team, who will gather at his bedside in case of an attack. Sae-baek claims that she does not trust anyone, especially Squid Game players. Gi Hoon explains to her that they trust people not because they are trustworthy, but because they have no other choice during the game.

History part 11

During the Special Game, Sae-bok seeks refuge with Gi-hoon and his team. She reminds him that he invited her himself, and they soon notice that Dok-soo is following her. A thug attempts to stab Sae-bok with her own knife, but Gi-hoon pulls her away from danger. All of Gi-hoon's team members help fight Dok-soo. Sae-byuk kicks Dok-soo when he tries to stab Gi-hoon, but she is attacked by Player 303, who smashes her head with a glass bottle. Sang-woo protects Sae-byuk by attacking Player 303 with a piece of bed, and Gi-hoon helps her up. As Gi-hoon and Sang-woo protect Sae-byuk, Dok-soo tells Gi-hoon that if there are fewer players left alive, it will also help him. Sae-byuk is a member of Gi's team, he says. They all then notice an older member, Oh Il-nam, asking the players to stop killing each other while standing on a bed, which eventually works when soldiers enter the room and start shooting to stop the riot. Joon-ho (disguised as a manager) approaches Ki-hoon and asks if he knows anyone named "Hwang In-ho." Ki-hoon says that they don't use their names here. Later, all of Ki-hoon's team members talk to each other. Ki-hoon asks if Il-nam is okay, and Ali is worried about him. Ki-hoon then suggests that they introduce themselves to each other, to which Ali replies that it is Ssangmun-dong. Ki-hoon laughs and says that it is his hometown and that his real name is Song Ki-hoon. Sang-woo asks Ali what his name is, and he replies that it is Ali Abdul. Ki-hoon asks where he is from, and he replies that he is from Pakistan. Ki-hoon asks where it is, and Sang-woo replies that it is north of India. Ki-hoon then notices Sae-byuk and asks her name, and she replies that her name is Kang Sae-byuk. Ali then asks Il-nam what his name is, but he does not answer because he cannot remember his name.

History part 12

The lights come on in the players' dorm, signaling the start of the 3rd game. The guards count the players, and they are divided into teams of 10 for the next game. Sang-woo tells Gi-hoon that they need more people for the game, and 5 people search for 5 more players to join their team. Ali meets Player 276, and they form a team after realizing that they are similar as foreigners. Ali asks Player 244 if he can join his team, and 244 agrees. Saebok, who is looking for another member, finds Jiyeon (240) and demands that she join Gi-hoon's team. The team is short a member, and Sang-woo complains that their team is weak and that they will end up with the ones they kicked out. Han Min-yo (212) hears this and comes into the circle, joining the team, and says that she is better than Saebok and Jiyeon because they are weak. Then the timer runs out and the game begins. The teams are taken to another room. The guard introduces it as a tug of war and explains the rules of the game. Teams 4 and 5 are chosen to participate in the second round. Il-nam notices that his team is demotivated and explains that tug of war is not only about brute force. He explains that good teamwork is needed to win a tug of war, but his ideas are rejected by Player 278 and Player 196, stating that he is old. Gi-hoon tells them to just listen to what Il-nam says. Il-nam explains his method, which Gi-hoon and the team decide to use during the game. The two teams prepare as the guards tie them to a rope; Gi-hoon is chosen as the leader and Ali as the anchor. When the round begins, Team 4 holds its ground and Team 5 is unable to move forward. Of course, Team 5's leader slips and Team 4 immediately starts pulling back on the rope. However, when Team 5 was about to fall off the platform, they pulled themselves together at the last second and prevailed. When Team 4 was about to fall, Sang Woo suggested taking 3 steps forward, to which Mi Nyeo exclaimed that doing so would result in their elimination.

History part 13

The team followed Sang Woo's advice, allowing them to knock out the opposing team, pull the rope, and win the game. After the game, Ki Hoon looks at his bloody hands. The next day, Ki-hoon and the other surviving players move on to the next game and begin forming teams. Ki-hoon notices that Il-nam wet himself the night before and covers him up by wrapping his tracksuit around him. He later notices Il-nam sitting alone and decides to partner up with him for the next game. As the players pass through the stairwell room, they notice the bodies of Byung-gi and his accomplices hanging from hooks. The host says over the intercom that the game was created with equality in mind. Players pair up with people they trust, not knowing what the game actually is. Ki-hoon sees Jo Sang-woo and Ali pairing up and says that they would make a great team. He then sees Il-nam sitting in the corner without a partner and suggests that they pair up, to which Il-nam agrees. They are then introduced to the fourth game, Marbles. To win the game, players must try to steal all of their opponent's marbles without using force by playing a mini-game with them. The player who ends up with no marbles left is killed and eliminated. They have a time limit of 30 minutes. If no one wins by then, both players are eliminated. Their opponent in the game is the one they chose as their partner. This comes as a shock to everyone as they partnered with someone they trusted without knowing what the game actually was.

History part 14

Ki-hoon tries to play a game with Il-nam, but the old man seems to have lost his mind. He wanders around the playground, saying that this is his home neighborhood, and tries to find his house. Because the old man is so confused, Ki-hoon has to convince him to play for a long time. When Il-nam finally agrees to play marbles, Ki-hoon keeps losing until he has one marble left, but realizing that Il-nam does not remember his promise, he lies to him and starts winning their marbles back. Eventually, Il-nam runs out of marbles and asks 456 if he can borrow one. Ki-hoon apologizes and is about to give his marbles to the guard, but Il-nam says that he has one marble left. Gi-hoon frantically counts his marbles and, of course, finds that he is one marble short and has not won yet. However, instead of continuing to play, Il-nam gets up again and continues to "look for his home". Gi-hoon follows Il-nam around, begging him to continue playing. The old man suggests that they bet everything on one game, and Gi-hoon becomes furious. However, Il-nam then admits that he knew about Gi-hoon's cheating all along and let him win. Angered by his actions, Gi-hoon begins to cry, but Il-nam gives him his last marble, allowing him to win anyway, and tells him that they are "ggangbu", who share everything with each other. Gi-hoon sobs uncontrollably, and the old man hugs and comforts him, saying that he made his time playing the games more enjoyable. Eventually, the timer runs out, and Gi-hoon is forced to leave his friend. Before Gi-hoon is escorted out, Il-nam tells him that he has finally remembered his full name: Oh Il-nam. After Ki-hoon leaves Il-nam with the soldier, a gunshot is heard and the announcer says that Il-nam has been eliminated. Ki-hoon continues to walk away slowly, crying.

History part 15

The group is led into the next room, which resembles a circus arena with two columns made of multiple glass panels. The announcer announces that the fifth game is "Glass Steps" and that each row has one tempered glass panel that can support the weight of two players and a regular glass panel that will break if even one player steps on it. The goal is to get to the other side before the 16-minute time limit is up. Player 096 quickly realizes that he will be the first to guess the correct panels and looks back at Gi-hoon in horror; Gi-hoon only looks away sympathetically. Player 096 approaches the edge of the platform but hesitates to jump onto the first row. The other players beg him not to waste time, and Deok-soo approaches him and threatens to push him off if he does not jump. Eventually, Player 096 jumps onto the first panel and finds it safe, but is not so lucky with the second panel and falls to his death. As the game progresses, the players at the front of the line are killed, but at the same time they clear the way for the others. Ki-hoon notices that there are enough glass tiles left for the last few players to pass without guessing, but Sang-woo warns him that if the players in front waste time, they too will be in danger at the end of the line. When Deok-soo reaches the end, he refuses to continue, confirming Sang-woo's warning. Min-yo mocks Deok-soo as a coward, but he still refuses to budge. Min-yo tells Deok-soo that she will go first, but when Deok-soo allows her to step over, she hugs him. Deok-soo resists, but is unable to pull her away. Min-yo, in revenge for betraying her in the third game, pushes them both off the glass, killing them both. When the timer starts counting down, there are only 4 players left in the game: Ki-hoon, Sae-byuk, Sang-woo, and Player 017, with the latter at the head of the line.

History part 16

He claims to be a glass maker with over 30 years of experience, and says that if you look at tempered glass from a certain angle, it will show subtle stains. He correctly guesses the next correct panel, to the relief of the other three. However, when the host turns off the lights, he fails to identify the final correct panel. As time runs out, Sang-woo mercilessly pushes Player 017 off the last panel, causing him to fall to his death. Sae-baek and Ki-hoon are shocked, but are unable to react as the timer approaches zero. The remaining three players make it to the end safely just as the timer runs out, and the remaining glass panels shatter, sending sharp shards flying among the three remaining players.
