Sasuke

General Information

Sasuke Uchiha is one of the last surviving members of the Uchiha clan from Konohagakure. After his older brother Itachi massacred their entire clan, Sasuke made it his life's mission to avenge his clan and family by killing Itachi. He is assigned to Team 7 when he becomes a ninja, and through competitions with his rival and best friend, Naruto Uzumaki, begins to hone his skills. Dissatisfied with his progress, he leaves Konohagakure to gain the power he needs to exact revenge. The years spent seeking vengeance have left him incredibly demanding and unreasonable, as well as isolating himself from others, which soon leads him to become an international criminal.

appearance

Sasuke is noticeably muscular, but still lean and wiry. He was first shown wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt with a smaller Uchiha symbol on the back. Sasuke wears a light blue cloth that starts from his stomach to his knees, which is held up by a purple sash similar to Orochimaru and his followers, which in turn supports a katana, dark blue pants, and tall black boots. Sasuke also wears black bracers that cover his forearms and stretch to reach his upper biceps.

Sasuke has both a superiority and an inferiority complex, as the Uchiha is unwilling to acknowledge people who may be stronger than him. Previously, Sasuke was confident that he would emerge victorious in his rivalry with Naruto, but after seeing Naruto defeat Gaara, whom he could not defeat, and his own defeat of Itachi, who had returned to the village for a time, Sasuke left for the Sound Village to receive power from Orochimaru. Sasuke became more confident in his newfound abilities. No matter what situation he faced, Sasuke always remained unfazed. Even in battle, he remained cool-headed, ironically acting the same way as Itachi. Despite his strength, Sasuke seemed unwilling to needlessly kill innocent people, thus maintaining morals and ethics. Sasuke, however, retains his habit of underestimating his opponents, shown in his overconfident battles. Despite this, Sasuke tries not to make mistakes in things, shown in his battles with Deidara and Killer B, after which Sasuke admits that the former was stronger than he thought and the latter was much harder for Hawk than he expected. Sasuke has shown an overbearing sense of pride in his clan's name and a great sense of loyalty to it, continuing to wear his clan's crest on his back and refusing to wear any other symbols such as his Konoha forehead protector. Abilities: Like his older brother Itachi, Sasuke is recognized as a gifted natural genius of the Uchiha clan, graduating at the top of his class at the Academy. He makes a strong impression on Kakashi Hatake during the bell test and fights on par with powerful shinobi like Haku and Gaara. Powerful people have also noted Sasuke's great potential: Orochimaru offers to help him dramatically increase his strength; Madara Uchiha notes that he would have gladly recruited Sasuke if he had been born a few years earlier. Under Orochimaru's tutelage, Sasuke becomes strong enough to fight against Akatsuki members within two and a half years.

Chakra and Physical Form:

Sasuke was born with a large amount of chakra, allowing him to perform the powerful Fireball technique at an early age, which Kakashi noted required a large amount of chakra. In Part II, his chakra capacity increased significantly, allowing him to summon colossal creatures such as Manda and use the Chidori and its various variations multiple times a day (in Part I, he could only use the Chidori twice a day).

Cursed Seal:

Orochimaru brands Sasuke with the Cursed Seal of Heaven after their first encounter in Part I. When activated, the cursed seal drains Sasuke's own chakra and replaces it with more of Orochimaru's, in turn increasing his strength and speed. Despite its benefits, early use of the cursed seal was often forced, painful upon activation, and left Sasuke unable to move for a period of time afterwards. These drawbacks were either minimized or eliminated once he was able to enter the cursed seal's second state: a transformation that turns his skin grey, lengthens his hair, and causes wings to grow from his back. The transformation causes his physical attributes to grow, similar to his version 1 jinchūriki forms, through which, in Part II, he can separate parts of his body.

Ninjutsu

During his time with Orochimaru, Sasuke learns to summon snakes. He typically summons them as a shield, a means of quick transportation, or to bind his target. While invisible outside of the Animal Path, Sasuke can also summon a second type of beast: hawks. His use of the hawks is more limited than his snakes, using them only for flight and the added maneuverability they provide. As an adult, Sasuke can use the Shadow Clone Technique and easily create eight clones at once.

Natural Transformation:

As a member of the Uchiha clan, he specializes in using Fire Release techniques. At a young age, Sasuke mastered the Great Fireball Technique, years before becoming a genin, which also shocked Kakashi. Sasuke can also breathe flames onto shuriken, direct fire along wire threads, and shoot fire projectiles in the shape of dragon heads. Sasuke has an affinity for Lightning Release, so after the second round of the Chunin Exams, Kakashi teaches Sasuke the Chidori. In Part I, Sasuke could only use the Chidori twice a day, but with the cursed seal activated, he could use it up to three times. In Part II, Sasuke invents several new variations of the Chidori: the Chidori Flow, which channels lightning chakra through his body, the Chidori Senbon, a long-range lightning attack, and the Chidori Sharp Spear, which creates an electrical beam. Sasuke can also channel lightning chakra through his Sword of Kusanagi, allowing him to both greatly increase its sharpness due to high-frequency vibrations and increase its cutting range. The strongest elemental technique he possesses is Kirin, which allows Sasuke to manipulate lightning.

Bukijutsu Kenjutsu

During his training under Orochimaru, Sasuke was taught Kenjutsu by the Sannin. In addition, Sasuke received the Sword of Kusanagi, which became an important element in his fighting style, and in his fights, Sasuke almost always used it, wielding the blade equally well with both hands. With his skill in Kenjutsu, Sasuke was able to incapacitate a hundred Otogakure shinobi without killing them or receiving a scratch. Sasuke's Kenjutsu skills are best shown during the Five Kage Summit, where Sasuke easily defeats and kills several samurai, as well as dodging their attacks when they attacked with chakra released from their katana. Sasuke also expertly blocked attacks from Mifune, a skilled Kenjutsu master who recognized his abilities. As an adult, Sasuke becomes quite proficient with the sword, instantly switching between attacking from behind with the sword and wielding it in a normal manner.

Shurikenjutsu

As a member of the Uchiha clan, Sasuke is very proficient in the use of weapons such as kunai, shuriken, and wires. He is capable of using techniques such as the Shadow Shuriken Technique, where he could hide one shuriken in the shadow of another and control the trajectory using wires. After training with Orochimaru, Sasuke has increased his speed and accuracy when throwing shuriken, as he was able to hit a complex set of eight targets, one of which was hidden in a blind spot, as Itachi had done in the past. While his throwing speed is fast, it is no match for Itachi's skill, so Sasuke uses a shuriken throwing technique when fighting his brother.

Summoning: Lightning-fast Blade Crafting, which allowed him to increase his stock and throw speed. He also demonstrated the ability to increase the lethal properties of fuuma shuriken by infusing the shuriken with lightning chakra. Kyūjutsu: As a child, he hunted a boar with Itachi, where he used a bow and arrow, but not very successfully, as he was unable to hit a large boar right in front of him.

Dōjutsu

Sharingan: Sasuke first awakened his Sharingan on the night of the Uchiha Clan Downfall. Despite this, he was unable to use it until his next awakening during his battle with Haku. Sasuke's Sharingan is a particularly powerful dōjutsu, as Orochimaru himself noted that its potential surpassed Itachi's while still incomplete. Later, his mastery and skill in using his fully developed dōjutsu earned him the name "Sharingan Sasuke". With the Sharingan, Sasuke can see the flow of chakra, accurately reproduce any movement he sees (given his own physical fitness), track fast-moving objects, and, once fully developed, can predict an opponent's movements to some degree. He can also use Genjutsu: Sharingan to distract, interrogate, knock out, or place an opponent under his control. He can use his Sharingan to transmit information to others or enter their subconscious, which in the case of the jinchūriki allowed him to suppress the tailed beast.

Intelligence

Intelligence: Sasuke was the top student in his graduating class. In combat, he is usually the first to go on the offensive, quickly thinking through his plans down to the smallest detail before doing so. During the fight, he also analyzes his opponent's moves, skillfully adapting to their fighting style. However, his strategies are usually very risky, as Sasuke sometimes puts the lives of his comrades at risk. This explains his desire to work alone. Despite this, he has received praise for his analytical skills from such skilled ninja as Minato Namikaze and Madara Uchiha. Jigen also praised Sasuke for eventually figuring out the principle behind his technique, even going so far as to say that his analytical skills combined with his Doujutsu made him more dangerous than Naruto, who was considered his equal.

Sasuke sometimes prepares for upcoming battles in advance. For example, he trains his speed to outpace Gaara's sand; studies snake behavior before his battle with Orochimaru and attacks when the Sannin is in dire straits; equips himself with Summoning: Lightning Blade Creation to compete with Itachi in Shurikenjutsu. In addition, during the fight with his brother, he thinks several steps ahead, as evidenced by the use of Kirin after preparing to use this technique.

Uchiha (うちわ) is another pronunciation of the word "uchiwa" (団扇, "paper fan"), which is also the symbol of the Uchiha clan. Sasuke means "help" or "assistance". This may be a reference to his role in helping Naruto realize his potential by acting as a rival.
