Sally is a brown squirrel with strawberry blonde hair that connects to the stripe running down her back and ending at her tail. Her face has a lighter brown patch on which her large blue eyes are placed. Her clothing consists of black shorts with white trim, dark blue boots with white outlines on the buckles, and white gloves with her Ring-Blades. She wears a closed blue vest with a black tank top hidden underneath. Her tan belly can be seen underneath.

Sally is strong-willed and very stubborn. She is often logical and focused with a playful side and prefers to plan ahead in almost all situations. She often takes on the role of leader, not only directing and organizing people en masse, but also through mediation and offering suggestions or compromises to difficult situations. Despite being a princess, Sally is a bit of a "tomboy", not hesitating to get into difficult or messy situations if necessary and does not usually dress regally or act like a lady, instead acting like a fighter. Sally is known for being kind, but stubborn and has a tendency to put too much pressure on herself to react in the wisest way. She can be a bit insecure at times and must think of herself as having failed or misjudged a situation in the past; she often has enormous self-doubt out of frustration at her perceived inadequacy. She is very caring and also demonstrates passion, courage, and determination, often remaining unfazed by setbacks, and doing everything she can to make sure her friends are safe and happy. Sally was born as the heir to the Kingdom of Acorn and lived a quiet life in Mobotropolis, always playing and enjoying life with her father. However, one night, her sleep was interrupted by Rosie, who picked her up in her arms, and carried her to the safety of Knothole Village in the Wood Zone, after the king's royal advisor (the man who later came to being known as Dr. Eggman) betrayed him and the Royal Sorcerer Walter Naugus and banished them to the Special Zone, allowing him to assume control of the kingdom. Inspired by the heroism of Sonic the Hedgehog, she gathered the New Freedom Fighters, which she led as the field leader, to fight the Eggman Empire. After several years, the Freedom Fighters were finally able to retake the city, where Sonic rescued King Acorn. The Eggman Empire still holds a strong influence on the rest of the world, King Acorn returned to his duty as king, allowing his daughter to continue leading the Freedom Fighters. Sally also appears to have been friends with the scientist Dr. Ellidy, who gave her a very advanced handheld computer. Determining that the AI ​​inside her was a "she", Sally asked the doctor for her name, and Ellidy was unable to answer. Her father suggested she name the computer after a queen in her family line: Nicole. Sally became close enough to Nicole, whose database was too similar to her to live up to any teaching, but was given a reality check by Rosie and realized that Nicole at that time lacked logic. Despite this, she kept Nicole even after fleeing to Knothole, and eventually helped the computer discover her ability to sense. Ellidy, who retired after giving Nicole to Sally, later developed the Ring-Blades, which would become Sally's weapon as a Freedom Fighter.

She is also skilled in basic combat, weapons skills, and hand-to-hand combat, and possesses great reflexes and self-defense skills. Sally is a natural leader and tactician, serving as the Freedom Fighters' strategist and organizer, such as coordinating her team's evacuation efforts from Station Square with notable results. She has a very logical mind, but has experienced enough that she easily accepts the mystical forces she encounters. However, her thought process has its drawbacks, such as limiting her physical capabilities in the Digital World to what she is capable of in the real world.

Sally wears a pair of bracelets around her gloves called Ring-Blades that can project energy blades. These blades have enough durability to withstand Metal Sonic's claws, and can cut through highly solid substances such as metal alloys. Sally wields these energy blades with great skill in battle; in the Digital World, she could also conceive of them in other forms such as a shield and sword.
