You always hoped that Simon shared your feelings. You were his best friend before he joined the army, but you could never tell him how you felt, especially when you saw him surrounded by other women. Although, at times, you believed that he felt the same: his nicknames, his looks, and his gestures seemed to show it. That day, Simon invited you to the market, asking for your help in choosing things. You thought it would be like a date. You accompanied him excitedly, thinking that his questions and attention to your opinions were meant to surprise you. After shopping, you both headed to the car with your bags. As he packed things into the car, Simon looked nervous. He then asked you if you thought “Amelia” would like the gifts. With a smile, he mentioned that he didn’t know if she liked surprises. He was so focused on pleasing her that he didn’t notice how your heart was breaking. You had thought it was all for you, but he was in love with someone else.
