｡⁠.ﾟ—Mami Tomoe explanation:

巴 マミ Tomoe Mami) is a character from the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica. She is a Puella Magi who had already made a contract with Kyubey and who appears just in time to save Madoka and Sayaka from the witch Gertrud in Episode 1. Mami was fighting alone against the witches of Mitakihara City before the arrival of Kyoko and the other Puella Magi.[1] Due to the death of her parents in a car accident, she abandoned her social life and focused on her work as a Puella Magi. She lives alone in a comfortable apartment. Unlike other Puella Magi, who mostly focus on obtaining Seeds of Suffering, Mami particularly focuses on protecting people.

Mami is a proper and polite girl, and her primary interest is to ensure the safety of people rather than just to collect Seeds of Suffering. She is a veteran Puella Magi who enjoys drinking tea and having tea parties with the people who visit her home. She tries to be an older sister and mentor to the Puella Magi, as shown by wanting to help Madoka and Sayaka when she sees that they both wish to become Puella Magi. However, she often misunderstands the intentions of distant people, such as Homura. Similar to Sayaka, she has a strong sense of justice. This, as seen in more detail in The Different Story, prevented her from teaming up with some Puella Magis in the past, who did not share her ideals, thinking only of obtaining Seeds of Suffering and their own benefit, not wishing to "team up with the competition" to hunt witches. These circumstances have affected Mami, who became an orphan girl who has trouble making friends, as she ended up isolating herself from the people she knows to focus more on hunting witches, making her a very sensitive girl who does not take loneliness very well. Despite having a cheerful disposition, Mami is also lonely and fearful due to the pressures of being a Puella Magi. Her wish, "I want to live", was granted while she was on the verge of death from a car accident, which she regrets for not asking for her parents to be saved as well. Despite her apparent strength, she is actually vulnerable and shown to be mentally unstable upon discovering the horrible truths of the Puella Magi system. In Episode 10, in one of the timelines, she succumbs to the pressure upon learning the truth of the Puella Magi and tries to kill her friends in order to, she claims, save them from a fate worse than death.

In her Puella Magi form, Mami wears a white blouse with a yellow bow tied around her neck, a pair of white sleeves that are separated from her blouse, a vintage honey-colored skirt, and a brown beret with white feathers. She wears brown cowboy boots, with long, striped stockings of the same color, and a matching corset, which is adorned with velvet lace and yellow lines. Additionally, she wears a pair of brown bands that surround her shoulders (resembling suspenders). *⁠･⁠゜ﾟ Gem ⁠✧ Her Soul Gem is yellow and has a flower on top. When she transforms, her gem turns orange, and is found as a flower-shaped brooch on the right side of her head. Her weapons are her muskets and ribbons (which were her initial weapons when she contracted with Kyubey). According to character designer Ume Aoki, Mami's outfit is based on a trigger: the blouse seems to squeeze and accentuate her large breasts, while the boots and hat give her an American accent.

Her fighting style is very focused and disciplined, reacting quickly in the worst of times. However, during her battle against Charlotte, she was too distracted by what Madoka had told her and acted recklessly in combat. She likes to give names to her techniques, as she says she wants to be like the magical heroines she admired in her childhood and to gain courage in combat. Mami prefers to attack from a long distance with her muskets, which are restricted to having one bullet each. When they run out of bullets, she uses them to strike at close range. In addition, she can summon yellow ribbons with which she uses her two techniques: Regale (her unique ability to "restrict" the movement of her opponents) and Tiro Finale (her special attack where she creates a powerful cannon with her ribbons that fires at a single target). Aside from the aforementioned uses, Mami has been shown to use her ribbons in very creative ways. She has used them to stop falls, propel her allies in high-altitude combat, generate constructions (such as bridges or domes), and create small cannons from her ribbons. She was even able to create a clone of herself on one occasion, which she could control like a puppet (as shown in Rebellion). This ability with her ribbons is possibly due to her wish, which is related to "connecting to life", allowing her to connect her ribbons to create different objects useful in combat.

Bebe, a strange Charlotte-shaped creature, lives with Mami and they are very close friends. However, Homura suspects that something is wrong and that it is all an illusion created by a witch. After Mami tells the girls that Bebe helped her emotionally after the death of her parents, Homura senses that something is wrong. Believing that Bebe is the witch who imprisoned them in the barrier, she attacks her. This causes Mami to defend her friend and both have an intense fight, in which Mami emerges victorious. In that, Sayaka takes Homura away and Bebe reveals that she is actually a Puella Magi named Nagisa Momoe, who reveals the truth to Mami.
