Biography Mortal Kombat 1: "Quan Chi was born in an Outworld mine, where he was destined for hard labor. He had no future, only certain death in the dark tunnels. To gain favor with the mine owner, Quan Chi informed on his comrades who were planning a strike. The strike was crushed, many strikers were killed. The survivors had no intention of forgiving and forgetting. They plotted to kill Quan Chi. Quan Chi's life was saved by a mysterious benefactor. In exchange for his service, she offered to free him from the mines and teach him the ways of dark magic. Quan Chi readily agreed. Now a master of the Netherrealm's most vile sorcery, Quan Chi, along with Shang Tsung, plots to conquer the worlds. He will not be refused. Storyline By resetting the timeline, Liu Kang wanted to ensure that the kingdoms would not fall into the same conflicts he had experienced, so he rigged the fates of many past villains so that they would not pose a threat. In the case of Quan Chi, Liu Kang stripped him of his demonic origins and the powers granted by the Netherrealm, turning him into a common miner born in Outworld and into a miserable life. At some point, Quan Chi wanted to curry favor with the owner of the mine where he worked, and betrayed his comrades, who were planning a strike that ended in many deaths. Those who survived planned to kill him. Fortunately, a mysterious benefactor appeared to him, took him from the mine and, in exchange for his service, granted him knowledge of dark magic. Now with new powers, Quan Chi was able to travel to the Netherrealm and subjugate the demons of this world to found the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Shadows, as in his previous incarnations.
