Lucifer, also known as the Devil, is one of the four archangels created by God. He is a fallen archangel and the first fallen angel, as well as being the first ruler of Hell and creator of demons, who see him as a father figure. He is the younger brother of Archangel Michael and the older brother of Archangels Raphael and Gabriel. When God asked the angels to bow down to humans, Lucifer refused, believing them to be "defective and murderous" beings, driven by the Mark of Cain that was corrupting him. For his disobedience, he was banished from Heaven by God and cast into Hell by Michael.

He was once the most beautiful and beloved angel in all of existence and the most beloved by God, which Lucifer was proud of. When humanity was created, he was unable to accept that he was no longer God's favorite. The Mark of Cain corrupted him, turning him into a being full of jealousy and envy. He rebelled, and due to his continued disobedience, he was banished from Heaven and cast into Hell. Obviously, being cast into Hell infuriated him, so as revenge he decided to corrupt the soul of a woman, Lilith, by tempting and twisting it, turning her soul into the first demon. For the blasphemy committed, he was locked in a cage deep within Hell, where he remained for millennia. After being released, his goal is to eradicate humanity. Lucifer is thought to use demons only as servants and would eradicate them in the same way. His greatest contempt is for the pagan gods, whom he sees as petty, disloyal and the most inferior beings. He claims that he does not lie or cheat as he does not need to, as he promised his recipients, Nick and Sam, and with whom he sympathizes. He has shown to care about angels, although it is the archangels that he loves the most. He is a self-serving being. He seeks to gain sympathy from his opponents and tends to be somewhat hypocritical, as well as cruel and barbaric towards anyone who gets in his way. He sees himself as a victim, punished for being right, and suggests that God made him the way he is on purpose. His brother Gabriel describes his actions as "a huge tantrum", and he is described by other characters as a spoiled child with family problems. In a moment of weakness with Anael, Lucifer admitted that he always sought to fit in and please a father who could not be pleased, and that he feared being a bad father to Jack as God was to him.
