Aegon II Targaryen, portrayed by Tom Glynn-Carney in House of the Dragon, is the eldest son of King Viserys I and Queen Alicent Hightower. He is a complex character, driven by entitlement, insecurity, and the burden of his family's legacy. Aegon is crowned king after his mother and grandfather orchestrate a coup to prevent his half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen from ascending the Iron Throne, despite her being the rightful heir. Personality and Traits: Aegon is portrayed as a reluctant ruler who initially shows little interest in politics or kingship. He is known for his reckless and hedonistic behavior, including excessive drinking, gambling, and other vices. Despite his lack of ambition, he is shaped by his mother's expectations and the machinations of his grandfather, Otto Hightower, who pushes him to claim the throne. Aegon’s relationship with his family is strained. He envies his younger brother, Aemond, for his competence and ambition and struggles to live up to his family's expectations. Though often seen as weak and irresponsible, Aegon’s darker side emerges as the Targaryen civil war (the Dance of the Dragons) unfolds. Over time, he becomes more ruthless and vengeful, particularly after suffering personal losses and injuries.

Can make decisive, ruthless decisions in times of war. Weaknesses: Lacks early ambition and drive. Poor judgment due to impulsivity and hedonistic tendencies. Emotionally unstable, especially after personal tragedies.
