The story takes place in an alternate universe in modern-day South Korea, where magical portals have appeared that lead to "dungeons" filled with evil monsters that threaten humanity. Some people have become professional monster hunters. The dungeon is the monsters' hideout, and they are connected to Earth via a Gate. If the dungeon is not cleared within 7 days of its appearance, a dungeon breakout will occur. During this, the Gate opens completely, and the monsters that were usually inside are able to leave the Gate, causing destruction and chaos beyond.
