Introduction

Shoto Todoroki (轟とどろき焦しょう凍と Todoroki Shōto?), or simply Shoto (ショート Shōto?), is the tritagonist of the manga and anime My Hero Academia. He was a student in Class 1-A of UA Academy, where he entered through official recommendations and trained to become a professional Hero. He is the youngest son of Endeavor, the number 2 hero.

Personality

Shoto originally had a cold and distant personality, which stemmed from his abusive upbringing and complicated family life. Focused and emotionless, Shoto preferred to keep to himself rather than hanging out with other people. However after the events of the Sports Festival, Shoto became noticeably more sociable and kind, even gaining a sense of humor and occasionally smiling, although he still retains some fragments of his previous aloof attitude. After the Remedial Course, he began to open up more to his classmates and became relieved from his generally serious demeanor. However, Shoto is still not used to socializing, as he is a bit dense when it comes to understanding certain ways of speaking. While generally calm and reserved, Shoto initially possessed a moderate level of arrogance, which combined with his reclusive tendencies, sometimes caused him to take initiative without considering the opinions of others, showing confidence that he could face any obstacle. with his own strength. He used to be much more hostile as well, to the point of making someone get upset with him due to his cocky nature. Shoto preferred to act alone though for practical purposes, as doing so allows him to unleash all of his power without having to worry about fire. Calm and collected but brutal in combat, Shoto is well grounded in the ethics of heroism, only wishing to subdue his frozen opponents rather than kill them by prolonging the freeze.

Past

Shoto deeply detested his fire abilities that he inherited from Endeavor, as it symbolized his father's evil towards him and his mother, as well as what he was born to be: a tool to surpass All Might, a fate he detested. As such, Shoto decided to rely solely on his ice power and never use the other half of his Quirk in battles, going so far as to cover his left torso and arm in ice in his first Hero Suit to symbolize his rebellion against his father. Shoto often felt annoyed by Endeavor's mere presence and could barely contain his anger while speaking to him, especially whenever the Pro Hero mentioned the purpose he had for his son since before he was born. Ironically though, Shoto's hostility towards his father made him more like him, being apathetic and indifferent towards others while obsessively focusing on his own goal of rejecting his father. Upon first meeting him, Inasa noticed that Shoto had the same hate-filled gaze that Endeavor had,

gift

During his confrontation with Izuku Midoriya at the UA Sports Festival, Izuku's speech brought back the memory of his mother's words of support, and for the first time since his childhood, Shoto used his fire power in combat. After the battle Shoto had mixed feelings about using his left side, but after reconciling with his mother he eventually came to terms with the half he once hated and was willing to train it further. Despite being scarred by her as a young child, Shoto shows no hard feelings towards his mother visiting her often since the end of the Sports Festival. Shoto seems to draw his heroic values from All Might, a trait he shares with Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo, having fond memories of watching the Symbol of Peace on television together with Rei. Despite his difficult past, Shoto does not allow his hatred for Endeavor to completely cloud his judgment and still acknowledges him for his skills and capabilities as one of Japan's top heroes. He chose to intern at his father's agency during the Hero Agency Internships and made it clear that this was purely for his own benefit and learning experience rather than any desire to spend time with him. Shoto reflects quite a bit on his own growth, realizing how much his perspective was changed by Izuku's words and how much better he became because of it. Because of this, Shoto was not against his father deciding that he would try to make amends with his family and become a better person, knowing from experience that one thing can change a person if they let it. However, Shoto's rejection of Endeavor has yet to go away, even if he respects his father's ability as a Hero, admitting that such resentment cannot be so easily gone and that he was wrong to try to bury it. After being denied a normal childhood so that his father could

Appearance

Shoto is a tall young man, standing at 1.76m tall and well built for his age, being 15 years old. He has slightly long hair although it does not go past his neck, he wears bangs parted twice so as not to obscure his vision. His hair is evenly divided between two colors: white on his right side and crimson red on his left, this unusual color is due to his quirk. As another result of this he also possesses heterochromia iridium, which makes the iris of his left eye turquoise, while the right is a grayish brown. His eyes are rather thin and reserved and he also has a large burn scar on the left side of his face, extending from his hairline to the middle of his cheek. Despite this, however, several of the girls in his class have claimed that he is handsome, Mina Ashido even went as far as to say that he is the cutest boy in Class 1-A.

School Outfit and Hero Outfit

During school hours he wears the normal male UA uniform, replacing the usual brown dress shoes with casual pale cyan and grey laces. In his initial hero costume, he wears a plain white shirt with matching pants and boots, with two gold-colored straps over his shoulders. He has what appears to be an ice-like material covering his entire left side including his head, though it is detachable which he uses as a way to reject the fire aspect of his Quirk.

Skills

Overall Abilities: Having been trained by his father at a young age, Shoto entered U.A. Academy through recommendations and has established himself as one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. He placed second in both the Quirk Apprehension Test and the U.A. Sports Festival. Shoto also has great control over his versatile and powerful Quirk that grants him incredible dual capabilities. Using the right side of his body, Shoto can drastically reduce temperatures and freeze anything he touches. Shoto can quickly freeze entire buildings, as well as create large waves of ice instantly. Despite his incredible raw power, Shoto possesses great control and direction over his right side. He can restrict the ice to avoid fatally freezing someone or use precision attacks to freeze only certain parts of a target's body. If fighting alongside others, he is able to cover enemy territory in ice while also preventing it from getting in the way of his allies. Shoto is able to mold ice into certain shapes to support himself, such as protective barriers, stairs to elevate himself, or a moving wave of ice for him to surf on. Shoto also has many mobility options, such as stacking ice shards behind his back to propel himself forward or freezing the ground to skate on. From the left side of his body, Shoto can drastically increase temperatures and release burning flames. When Shoto ignites his flames, the resulting fire covers his arm and the left side of his head. He is capable of firing consuming streams of fire or short protective waves. After upgrading his suit to help him control his temperatures, the flames only ignite on Shoto's hand, showing more control over his left side.

Skills

Overall Shoto has tremendous power, but due to past decisions and circumstances, such as his intentional neglect of half of his Quirk, he has not yet reached his full potential. And while Shoto may have complete mastery over ice, his control over fire is still relatively inept, especially compared to Endeavor's. During the USJ Incident, Shoto was able to easily overpower the small villains in the Landslide Zone, and later displayed elite judgment, combat awareness, and athletic ability during the UA Sports Festival in his battle against Izuku. , a fan claimed that Shoto was already stronger than the average Pro Hero. In the final round of the Sports Festival, in which he faced Katsuki, there was a chance that Shoto could have won the match using his fire powers, but due to internal turmoil, he essentially gave up by deactivating his flames, leaving him open to Katsuki's final attack and losing the match. Enhanced Durability: Shoto has proven to be quite durable, able to withstand multiple attacks from Izuku, including a 5% strength enhanced One For All direct hit to the stomach, without sustaining serious injuries. Enhanced Stamina: Shoto has shown to be able to withstand combat even when injured, such as in his battle with Stain where he is able to continue fighting and supporting his allies despite suffering multiple hemorrhagic wounds to his arm and face and still dragging his body. unconscious of the villain once the battle is over. Enhanced Agility: Shoto is fast, agile, and has quick reflexes. He was able to maintain first place for most of the Obstacle Course during the sports festival thanks to his own athletic ability. He was also able to create ice walls in a split second to prevent him from being kicked out of the ring during his battles with Izuku and Katsuki.

Skills

Keen Intellect: Shoto has shown to be very intelligent. During the USJ Incident Shoto surmised that the villains had a Quirk user among their ranks who could jam communications. He realized that the attacking villains had some sort of agenda and interrogated some of them for answers. Shoto's theory was correct as the villain's goal was to kill All Might. Shoto deduced that Izuku had a connection to All Might after experiencing Izuku's power and combining it upon witnessing All Might fighting Nomu. While he was correct in deducing that Izuku had a connection to the hero, he incorrectly believed that the latter could be the secret child of a love affair of All Might. He was able to figure out the location of Izuku, Tenya Iida, and Stain from an emergency call and arrive in time, though he complained that it took a while. Despite his training, Shoto is also very skilled in academics as he placed fifth in the midterms. During the match between Momo Yaoyorozu and Itsuka's Kendo class teams, Shoto realizes that there is a flaw in Itsuka's caution strategy in separating Momo from her teammates. He points out that if she truly wanted to be cautious around Momo, Itsuka would have overwhelmed her entire team from the start of the match. After witnessing Izuku's recent awakening of a second Quirk, Shoto deduces that this one may be just like him, but Shoto fails to recognize the true depth of Izuku's newfound power.

Don

Half Cold Half Hot (半はん冷れい半はん燃ねん Hanrei Hannen ?): Shoto's Quirk gives him the ability to freeze with the right half of his body and burn with the left half. The appendages on its right side can drastically reduce the temperatures of anything they touch, enough to create large waves of ice. The limbs on his left side generate heat and allow Shoto to create and shoot streams of fire. The drawback of his Quirk arises from his need to maintain his own body temperature, as overusing his ice power causes Shoto to suffer from frostbite. The frost covering his body slows him down physically and weakens the strength and speed of his ice attacks. However, this weakness can be countered if Shoto uses his left side to compensate for the low temperature. The side effect of prolonged use of his fire side has not yet been revealed, due to the fact that he has never overused it. As Stain noted, one of Shoto's greatest weaknesses is his heavy reliance on the devastating power of his Quirk. Another drawback is that Shoto cannot fully control the fire and ice he generates. While he is able to use both of these abilities at the same time, he has stated that he is not used to doing this, and still needs practice in wielding his Quirk.

Don

Super moves Sky-Piercing Ice Wall (穿が天てん氷ひょう壁へき Gaten Hyōheki ?): Shoto creates a massive glacier of ice, which can either encapsulate his opponent or block the immediate battlefield in ice. This move is first used in his battle against Hanta Sero at the Sports Festival, but goes unnamed until the final exams. He noticed to Sero that it was more powerful than necessary, but was irritated (from talking to Endeavor) and overdid it. A variation of this move, slightly smaller in size, but more controllable, is shown in his battle against Katsuki. He also used this attack on a massive scale repeatedly while attacking Mr. Compress. Wall of Flames (炎ほのおの壁かべ Honō no Kabe ?): Shoto uses his left side to generate a burst of flames that covers a large area. This is both a defensive and offensive attack like his Sky-Piercing Ice Wall technique. It can be used to attack multiple opponents and create space between Shoto and his target. Shoto first used this attack against Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu during the Joint Training Battle with Class 1-B. Cold Air Heat Wave (膨ぼう冷れい熱ねっ波ぱ Bōrei Neppa ?): To use this super move, Shoto first cools the air around him with his ice powers. Then, by switching to his fire powers, Shoto rapidly heats up and expands the air around him. This allows him to release a superheated blast. Incandescent Fist (赫かく灼しゃく熱ねっ拳けん Kaku Shakunekken ?): Endeavor's original super move, later passed down to Shoto himself. It raises the temperature of his fire to its highest level and maximizes its power. By doing so, he can unleash devastating flame attacks or increase his speed dramatically.

Don

Incandescent Fist: Hell Spider (赫灼熱拳 ヘルスパイダー Kaku Shakuneken Heru Supaidā ?) Shoto concentrates his fire and emits it with his fingertips, allowing him to slash objects. Use this attack for the first time to destroy the lasers on a Humarise base. Incandescent Fist: Jet Kindling (What do you think about Kaku Shakuneken Funryūshien ?): Shoto concentrates his flames into a burning point on his pu ño and hits his opponent. Upon contact, a violent blast of flame erupts from Shoto's arm, severely burning its target. Shoto first uses this attack against Leviathan in the final battle against Humarise. Incandescent Fist: Phosphor (赫かく灼しゃく熱ねっ拳けん 燐りん Kaku Shakuneken Rin ?) Shoto circulates both halves of his Don throughout his body, fusing fire and ice into one. This Super Move also serves as the basis for other moves that Shoto uses. Ice Shock: Pale Sheet of Cold Fire (Although it's based on Shimi Kōru Shōgeki - Reien Hakujin ?) Using the. power is combined of Phosphor, Shoto throws a chunk of fire and ice combined to his opponent, throwing him a great distance backwards. Great Glacier Aegir (大だい氷ひょう海かい嘯しょう Daihyō Kaishō ?) Shoto builds up his fire and ice, then rushes towards his opponent, striking him with his fist and unleashing an enormous wave of cold fire, capable of extinguishing the. lla more and more hot spots, as well as completely covering in ice a large section of terrain.

Equipment

Hero Suit: The second suit Shoto has worn, it is designed to optimize the use of both the fire and ice sides in combat, as well as to lessen the drawbacks of his Quirk as much as possible. Temperature-resistant Jacket: Shoto's blue jacket is made of a special fire-resistant fiber. There is a special device near the collar that detects Shoto's body temperature and holds the vest in place to help regulate it. Combat Vest: The device on Shoto's back is able to detect Shoto's body temperature and automatically heats or cools accordingly. Shoto requested that his original suit have a device that would heat up. Utility Belt: There are metal capsules on Shoto's belt that contain water, painkillers, and disinfectants, constituting a first aid kit. Snow Boots: Shoto is equipped with a pair of white snow boots with spikes under the soles that prevent Shoto from slipping on his own ice. They are later upgraded with straps that cross the front of the boots. Wrist Guards: As an upgrade to his costume, Shoto received new wrist guards made from the same material as his vest. They appear to help Shoto control the temperature of his ice and flames by preventing extreme temperatures from rising up his arms to his upper body.
