Body: Gus is a small boy, noticeably shorter than Luz, Amity, and Willow, with brown skin and dark brown hair with lighter shades. His upper lip is curved, similar to Luz's. Like all witches and demons of the Boiling Isles, he has pointed ears. His eyes are dark blue, After going through puberty, Gus has become taller than before, almost the same height as Luz and Willow. Additionally, Gus's facial features have become sharper and more angular, and his eyes now have visible pupils. Clothing: When attending Hexside, Gus wears a grey robe with a dark grey belt, hood, and boots. As part of the illusion track, the color of his sleeves and leggings is light blue. After witch puberty, his boots reached up to his ankles. When not in Hexside, Gus wears a cyan robe with greyish-white sleeves and a black belt. He also wears charcoal-grey tights and dark violet boots. From "Clouds on the Horizon" to "Thanks to Them", he wears a lighter cyan robe with white loose sleeves, a fuchsia-colored belt and lining, steel-blue tights, and reddish-violet boots. He has the magic amplifier he snatched from Adrian hanging around his neck. While on Earth, Gus often wears T-shirts that are usually some shade of blue or turquoise, along with jeans, a hat, and sneakers or boots. Some of these clothes also feature images of dinosaurs.

personality

Gus is a young and precocious wizard. He is known for being very enthusiastic and excitable; when Luz gives him his nickname, he goes crazy with joy. Because he is an illusionist, he tends to have a dramatic flair when making statements and presenting things. He has a keen interest in researching human culture, and is an expert on it as well, having been the president of the Human Appreciation Society at his school, though his knowledge of humans is often inaccurate. His fascination with humans and their culture has made him wish to become an ambassador to the Human Realm. This also extends to reestablishing contact with the exiled inhabitants of the Boiled Isles, such as the Giraffes. Unlike his usual cheerful attitude towards most activities and interactions, Gus has admitted to feeling quite insecure about his age. He feels neglected for being younger than his fellow Hexside members, and as such, he tries to act assertively so as not to be left behind. This has also led him to be very welcoming to newcomers, as he can easily understand and empathize with people in the same situation as him. Another aspect of this insecurity was that Gus, as he moved into more advanced classes, had found himself so desperate to make friends with his older classmates that he didn't realize how they would use him to boost their grades. This had led Gus to become very aware of his own naivety.

history

As a child: Augustus Porter is the son of reporter Perry Porter, who wants his son to be a master illusionist. Due to his skills in illusion magic, Augustus is one of the youngest students at Hexside School of Magic and Demons, taking high school-level classes despite being twelve years old. However, due to his young age, Gus was often overlooked and ignored, and was gullible to the various students who took advantage of his intelligence. The only place he felt he mattered was the club he led, the Human Appreciation Society. Aside from the other members of the HAS, the only other student he befriended was Willow Park, who helped him calm down from an illusory memory with a breathing exercise he remembers to this day. How she met Luz: Augustus first meets Luz after Willow reveals that the human is acting as her Abomination . Luz, who knew an "Augustus" in the Human Realm , nicknames the young witch "Gus", a nickname the young illusionist eagerly accepts. She later gives Luz a peanut butter and jelly sandwich during lunch, but nearly blows her cover in doing so. As Principal Bump prepares to dissect Luz, Gus distracts him by spilling some pots of Abominations, giving Willow and the human time to escape. Fortunately, both Willow and Luz escape from Bump and Amity, though Gus breaks the news to them that the human is officially banned from Hexside.
