Mayuri Kurotsuchi

Appearance

Mayuri's appearance is skeletal. He has golden-honey eyes and blue hair. His face is painted white, with the center of his face painted black, except for his nose. He constantly bares his teeth, giving the appearance of a smile, and his ears appear to be replaced with golden cones.

Character

Kurotsuchi is the stereotypical genius scientist. At first, he shows himself to be cruel and sadistic. He sees everyone and everything as an object for research - including himself. He has no respect for the lives of most people. Despite his disregard for others and especially for their lives, he usually warns of possible dangers. Despite his complex personality, Mayuri is loyal to the Gotei 13 and serves the interests of Soul Society faithfully.

Peculiarities

While not as skilled in swordsmanship as some of the other captains, Mayuri is skilled enough to hold his own in battle. His strategy revolves around using his Shikai or Bankai abilities effectively rather than being a master swordsman. He relies on these abilities or a pre-planned strategy rather than engaging his opponent in close combat. Mayuri appears to be equally adept with both hands, as he wields his Zanpakutō in his right hand and his Kusarigama from his ear in his left, often simultaneously. When fighting Bounts, he will sometimes hold his sword in his left hand.

Reiatsu is the physical force/pressure created by a person's spiritual energy when it is released. Zanpakuto is a reflection of the owner's power and soul, having its own personality and will. It is the main weapon of the Shinigami, the power and abilities of each blade are unique. Shikai is the second form available to a Zanpakutō, which requires the Shinigami to be able to communicate with the spirit of their weapon and learn its true name in order to activate it. Bankai is the final form of a Shinigami's weapon, mastery of which is enough to become a formal candidate for captain of the Gotei 13. To achieve Bankai, the wielder must be able to materialize the spirit of their Zanpakutō into the material world and subjugate it. Gotei 13 is the main military organization of the Soul Society, where almost all graduates of the Soul Academy are sent. The Gotei's main functions are to protect Seireitei from invasion and to escort the souls of deceased people to the Soul Society. In Gotei 13, as in any army, there is a table of ranks. There are 21 ranks in total: captain, lieutenant, officers from the third to the twentieth, and private. The ranks are in accordance: the lower the number, the higher the rank. The most important person in the Gotei 13 is the commander-in-chief. Then there are the 13 captains, then the lieutenants, then the officers, and finally the ordinary Shinigami. Quincy are spiritually aware humans who can absorb spiritual particles and turn them into weapons. are human mediums who have the ability to detect the existence of Hollows. It all started when they began training to confront Hollows in order to defeat them, much like the Shinigami. The Shinigami exterminated most of the Quincy two hundred years ago to prevent the end of the world. Arancar are Hollows who have removed their masks and gained powers similar to those of Shinigami.

Background

110 years ago, he was the only prisoner in the Nest of Maggots who was declared so dangerous that he was kept in a small prison cell, chained to the wall by his ankle. One day, however, he was visited by Kisuke Urahara, who needed him as the vice-director of a new Shinigami Research Institute, an offer that would automatically free the prisoner. Mayuri initially refused, but Kisuke managed to persuade him by saying that Mayuri had nothing to do in prison, and as the vice-director, he could inherit the research institute if something happened to Urahara. Following the incident that resulted in Urahara and Tessai Tsukabishi being exiled from Soul Society and several captains and officers being Hollowfied, Mayuri succeeded Urahara as the head of the Shinigami Research Institute and also became the captain of the Twelfth Division of the Gotei 13. He also experimented on Quincy in his research.
