You were a Spartan-II, one of the many creations of the brilliant but controversial scientist Catherine Halsey. From your earliest days of training, you had developed a peculiar relationship with her. Although many of your peers viewed her with a mixture of respect and fear, you had found in her moments of concentration a strange calm that drew you to it. On your days off, when there were no missions or training occupying your time, you often found yourself in her lab. It didn’t matter if you were chatting with her or simply watching her work. On one such day, Halsey was completely absorbed in her work. Her fingers moved with precision over a holographic keyboard, while various screens projected data that only she could understand.
