Appearing as an attractive, polite, and wise man, his true personality behind those traits shows a ruthless and sadistic man. Originally a guard in the Squid Games who gained the trust of the game's creator, Oh Il-nam, over time. After rising through the ranks, the Recruiter was given the opportunity to work outside of the game. His role was to be the recruiter and recruit people by playing Ddakji with them, then giving them a card if they won.

The Recruiter had a fondness for classical music, as demonstrated by playing classical songs on vinyl, including the aria "Nessun dorma" from Giacomo Puccini's Turandot and "Time to Say Goodbye" by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli, while playing Russian roulette. As with many of the Squid Games staff, the Recruiter seemingly dedicated himself completely to the event to the point where his life held little value to him. This is best shown during his fateful game of Russian Roulette with Gi-hun, where during his first turn, he grabs the revolver without hesitation and pulls the trigger almost instantly, unfazed by the risk of death. The Recruiter was a guard in the Squid Games who gained the trust of the game's creator, Oh Il-nam, over time. He was initially a Worker before being promoted to Soldier. He killed his own father during one of the games. After rising through the ranks, the Recruiter was given the opportunity to work outside of the game in the "real world" and began recruiting players. With his briefcase of cash and Ddakji envelopes, he lured players in by offering them an easy way to earn money. After several rounds of Ddakji, he gave players a card with a logo and a phone number they could call for a chance to play more games and earn money. If players wanted to participate and called the number, the recruiter instructed them to state their name and date of birth before allowing them to play.

Baji is a tall young man. He is also someone very perceptive. His great perception allowed him to see the true villains who threaten, brown eyes and long black hair slightly wavy to the shoulders; and that, usually, he keeps untied, holding it only before a fight in a high or low ponytail. One of his prominent features are his two sharp fangs; when he smiles, it gives him a somewhat wild appearance. Baji is generally a wild and fierce person. The Squid Games are an annual competitive event in which hundreds of contestants (456 in South Korea) take part in a series of six children's games. The ultimate winner of the competition receives a grand prize of 45.6 billion won or US$30,918,817.75, representing the total number of players. The games operate on a knockout system, where failure to win results in death. For each player eliminated, an additional 100 million won or US$67,804.42 is added to the prize pool. The Squid Games were created and funded by Oh Il-nam, a wealthy businessman who worked with other wealthy clients called VIPs to make the games happen. Il-nam explained that the games were meant to entertain the wealthy because having too much money and freedom made life feel boring and lacking in excitement. The first Squid Game took place in 1988, with 33 annual competitions held until 2020. The series continued, with the most recent game being in 2024. The games take place on a remote, untraceable island, with participants being knocked unconscious during transportation to keep the location a secret. According to VIPs, the Squid Games have since become a franchise, as many versions of the Squid Games exist in other countries. The games played each year are different. In 2020, events included Red Light, Green Light; Sugar Honeycomb (Dalgona); Tug of War; Marbles; Glass Stones; and the eponymous Squid Game.

In 2024, the well-known games were Red Light, Green Light; a 5-player team marathon where each player competes in a minigame ( ddakji , flying stones, gonggi , spinning top and jegi ); and Mingle. The remaining three games from that year were not shown and remain a mystery. Players must voluntarily agree to participate in the games and are given the opportunity to withdraw before the competition begins. However, the consent form clearly states that once the games begin, players cannot stop and those who refuse to continue will be eliminated. Games can only be ended if a majority votes to end them, but this means that all players leave without any cash prizes and return to their normal lives. This option was exercised in 2020, allowing players to reconsider and return later if they changed their minds. In 2024, a new rule was introduced: players could vote after each game to end or continue the competition. Additionally, the prize money accumulated by each eliminated contestant would be totaled and distributed equally among the remaining players. The rules are enforced, and contestants are controlled by a large number of masked guards, who never reveal their faces or identities to players and regularly apply lethal force when enforcing rules or eliminating players who lose competitions. The participants are people who, due to various circumstances, have a large amount of debt that they cannot pay off and are nearly destitute and bankrupt. Il-nam believed that the Squid Games also provided a service to the participants, because, although most of them die, it also provides them with a distraction from their monotonous lives and a chance to earn money and escape their dire financial situations. Union Players will receive a card after playing rounds of ddakji with the recruiter. The player will call the number on the back of the card. The receiver will ask the participant's name and date of birth and give them the password and a meeting time. The participant will be picked up by workers who will then gas them unconscious. Upon arriving on the island, they will be wheeled into a room where all of their belongings and clothing (except their underwear) will be put into a box and changed into their player uniform. They will then be put to bed. Card The cards are used to enter the game. They have a phone number on them that informs the player where they can be picked up by a worker. The cards are later used by the flower seller to put Seong Gi-hun in contact with the games creator. Uniform Participants wear a sea-green jacket with a white shirt underneath, and sea-green trousers and white trainers. The jacket has a high collar and a patch with the participants' number on the left side of the chest and on the upper back. The sleeve of the jacket has a white stripe that runs down to the elbow. Like the jacket, the trousers also have a white stripe on each side of the trouser leg and runs down to the bottom. The white shirts have a sea-green lining on the collar and sleeves, and the number is written in large print on the front and back.
